We study the Higgs mode in a Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) superconductor. Motivated by the observation that U(1) symmetry of the BCS Hamiltonian is not essential for the Higgs mode, we study the Ising-like Hamiltonian in the pseudospin representation. We show that the Higgs mode emerges as the lowest excited state of the Ising-like Hamiltonian due to spontaneous breakdown of $mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry under the time-reversal operation $mathcal T$ in the pseudospin space. We further predict the existence of multiple Higgs modes that have quantized energy $2(n+1)Delta_0$ ($0le nle N_{k_F}$), where $Delta_0$ is the superconducting gap, $n$ is an integer, and $N_{k_F}$ is the number of states on the Fermi surface.

Superconductivity is a quantum phenomena arising, in its simplest form, from pairing of fermions with opposite spin into a state with zero net momentum. Whether superconductivity can occur in fermionic systems with unequal number of two species disti nguished by spin, atomic hyperfine states, flavor, presents an important open question in condensed matter, cold atoms, and quantum chromodynamics, physics. In the former case the imbalance between spin-up and spin-down electrons forming the Cooper pairs is indyced by the magnetic field. Nearly fifty years ago Fulde, Ferrell, Larkin and Ovchinnikov (FFLO) proposed that such imbalanced system can lead to exotic superconductivity in which pairs acquire finite momentum. The finite pair momentum leads to spatially inhomogeneous state consisting of of a periodic alternation of normal and superconducting regions. Here, we report nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements providing microscopic evidence for the existence of this new superconducting state through the observation of spin-polarized quasiparticles forming so-called Andreev bound states.
We study the temperature dependence of the magnetic penetration depth in a 3D topological superconductor (TSC), incorporating the paramagnetic current due to the surface states. A TSC is predicted to host a gapless 2D surface Majorana fluid. In addit ion to the bulk-dominated London response, we identify a $T^3$ power-law-in-temperature contribution from the surface, valid in the low-temperature limit. Our system is fully gapped in the bulk, and should be compared to bulk nodal superconductivity, which also exhibits power-law behavior. Power-law temperature dependence of the penetration depth can be one indicator of topological superconductivity.
We investigate the non-equilibrium behavior of BCS superconductors subjected to slow ramps of their internal interaction strength. We identify three dynamical regimes as a function of ramp duration. For short ramp times, these systems become non-supe rconducting; however, fermions with opposite momenta remain paired albeit with reduced amplitudes, and the associated pair amplitude distribution is non-thermal. In this first regime, the disappearance of superconductivity is due to the loss of phase coherence between pairs. By contrast, for intermediate ramp times, superconductivity survives but the magnitude of the order parameter is reduced and presents long-lived oscillations. Finally, for long ramp times, phase coherence is almost fully retained during the slow interaction quench, and the steady-state is characterized by a thermal-like pair amplitude distribution. Using this approach, one can therefore dynamically tune the coherence between pairs in order to control the magnitude of the superconducting order parameter and even engineer a non-equilibrium state made of pre-formed pairs.

An SDW antiferromagnetic (SDW-AF) low temperature phase transition is generally observe and the AF spin fluctuations are considered to play an important role for the superconductivity paring mechanism in FeAs superconductors. However, a similar magne tic phase transition is not observed in FeSe superconductors, which has caused considerable discussion. We report on the intrinsic electronic states of FeSe as elucidated by transport measurements under magnetic fields using a high quality single crystal. A mobility spectrum analysis, an ab initio method that does not make assumptions on the transport parameters in a multicarrier system, provides very import and clear evidence that another hidden order, most likely the symmetry broken from the tetragonal C4 symmetry to the C2 symmetry nematicity associated with the selective d-orbital splitting, exists in the case of superconducting FeSe other than the AF magnetic order spin fluctuations. The intrinsic low temperature phase in FeSe is in the almost compensated semimetallic states but is additionally accompanied by Dirac cone like ultrafast electrons $sim$ 10$^4$cm$^2$(VS)$^{-1}$ as minority carriers.
We study the quench dynamics of a topological $p$-wave superfluid with two competing order parameters, $Delta_pm(t)$. When the system is prepared in the $p+ip$ ground state and the interaction strength is quenched, only $Delta_+(t)$ is nonzero. Howev er, we show that fluctuations in the initial conditions result in the growth of $Delta_-(t)$ and chaotic oscillations of both order parameters. We term this behavior phase III. In addition, there are two other types of late time dynamics -- phase I where both order parameters decay to zero and phase II where $Delta_+(t)$ asymptotes to a nonzero constant while $Delta_-(t)$ oscillates near zero. Although the model is nonintegrable, we are able to map out the exact phase boundaries in parameter space. Interestingly, we find phase III is unstable with respect to breaking the time reversal symmetry of the interaction. When one of the order parameters is favored in the Hamiltonian, the other one rapidly vanishes and the previously chaotic phase III is replaced by the Floquet topological phase III that is seen in the integrable chiral $p$-wave model.
