The isolated susceptibility $chi_{rm I}$ may be defined as a (non-thermodynamic) average over the canonical ensemble, but while it has often been discussed in the literature, it has not been clearly measured. Here, we demonstrate an unambiguous measurement of $chi_{rm I}$ at avoided nuclear-electronic level crossings in a dilute spin ice system, containing well-separated holmium ions. We show that $chi_{rm I}$ quantifies the superposition of quasi-classical spin states at these points, and is a direct measure of state concurrence and populations.

We study the magnetic susceptibility of 1D quantum XY model, and show that when the temperature approaches zero, the magnetic susceptibility exhibits the finite-temperature scaling behavior. This scaling behavior of the magnetic susceptibility in 1D quantum XY model, due to the quantum-classical mapping, can be easily experimentally tested. Furthermore, the universality in the critical properties of the magnetic susceptibility in quantum XY model is verified. Our study also reveals the close relation between the magnetic susceptibility and the geometric phase in some spin systems, where the quantum phase transitions are driven by an external magnetic field.

We derive several closed-form expressions for the fidelity susceptibility~(FS) of the anisotropic $XY$ model in the transverse field. The basic idea lies in a partial fraction expansion of the expression so that all the terms are related to a simple fraction or its derivative. The critical points of the model are reiterated by the FS, demonstrating its validity for characterizing the phase transitions. Moreover, the critical exponents $ u$ associated with the correlation length in both critical regions are successfully extracted by the standard finite-size scaling analysis.
The fidelity susceptibility has been used to detect quantum phase transitions in the Hermitian quantum many-body systems over a decade, where the fidelity susceptibility density approaches $+infty$ in the thermodynamic limits. Here the fidelity susce ptibility $chi$ is generalized to non-Hermitian quantum systems by taking the geometric structure of the Hilbert space into consideration. Instead of solving the metric equation of motion from scratch, we chose a gauge where the fidelities are composed of biorthogonal eigenstates and can be worked out algebraically or numerically when not on the exceptional point (EP). Due to the properties of the Hilbert space geometry at EP, we found that EP can be found when $chi$ approaches $-infty$. As examples, we investigate the simplest $mathcal{PT}$ symmetric $2times2$ Hamiltonian with a single tuning parameter and the non-Hermitian Su-Schriffer-Heeger model.
We calculate very long low- and high-temperature series for the susceptibility $chi$ of the square lattice Ising model as well as very long series for the five-particle contribution $chi^{(5)}$ and six-particle contribution $chi^{(6)}$. These calcula tions have been made possible by the use of highly optimized polynomial time modular algorithms and a total of more than 150000 CPU hours on computer clusters. For $chi^{(5)}$ 10000 terms of the series are calculated {it modulo} a single prime, and have been used to find the linear ODE satisfied by $chi^{(5)}$ {it modulo} a prime. A diff-Pade analysis of 2000 terms series for $chi^{(5)}$ and $chi^{(6)}$ confirms to a very high degree of confidence previous conjectures about the location and strength of the singularities of the $n$-particle components of the susceptibility, up to a small set of ``additional singularities. We find the presence of singularities at $w=1/2$ for the linear ODE of $chi^{(5)}$, and $w^2= 1/8$ for the ODE of $chi^{(6)}$, which are {it not} singularities of the ``physical $chi^{(5)}$ and $chi^{(6)},$ that is to say the series-solutions of the ODEs which are analytic at $w =0$. Furthermore, analysis of the long series for $chi^{(5)}$ (and $chi^{(6)}$) combined with the corresponding long series for the full susceptibility $chi$ yields previously conjectured singularities in some $chi^{(n)}$, $n ge 7$. We also present a mechanism of resummation of the logarithmic singularities of the $chi^{(n)}$ leading to the known power-law critical behaviour occurring in the full $chi$, and perform a power spectrum analysis giving strong arguments in favor of the existence of a natural boundary for the full susceptibility $chi$.
We report a metrology scheme which measures magnetic susceptibility of an atomic spin ensemble along the $x$ and $z$ direction and produces parameter estimation with precision beating the standard quantum limit. The atomic ensemble is initialized via one-axis spin squeezing with optimized squeezing time and parameter $phi$ to be estimated is assumed as uniformly distributed between 0 and $2pi$. One estimation of $phi$ can be produced with every two magnetic susceptibility data measured along the two axis respectively, which has imprecision scaling $(1.43pm{}0.02)/N^{0.687pm0.003}$ with respect to the number N of atomic spins. The measurement scheme is easy to implement and thus one step towards practical application of quantum metrology.
