Next generation neutrino oscillation experiments like DUNE and T2HK are multi-purpose observatories, with a rich physics program beyond oscillation measurements. A special role is played by their near detector facilities, which are particularly well-suited to search for weakly coupled dark sector particles produced in the primary target. In this paper, we demonstrate this by estimating the sensitivity of the DUNE near detectors to the scattering of sub-GeV DM particles and to the decay of sub-GeV sterile neutrinos (heavy neutral leptons). We discuss in particular the importance of the DUNE-PRISM design, which allows some of the near detectors to be moved away from the beam axis. At such off-axis locations, the signal-to-background ratio improves for many new physics searches. We find that this leads to a dramatic boost in the sensitivity to boosted DM particles interacting mainly with hadrons, while for boosted DM interacting with leptons, data taken on-axis leads to marginally stronger exclusion limits. Searches for heavy neutral leptons perform equally well in both configurations.

Adding right-handed neutrinos to the Standard Model is a natural and simple extension and is well motivated on both the theoretical and the experimental side. We extend the Standard Model by adding only one right-handed Majorana neutrino and study th e sensitivity of the Near Detector of the DUNE experiment to the new physics parameters, namely the mixing parameters $|U_{e 4}|^2$ and $|U_{mu 4}|^2$ and the mass $m_N$. The study relies on searches of the products of right-handed neutrino decays, which is possible thanks to an extremely intense beam and a state-of-the-art detection technology. This type of direct test is carried out with very few assumptions and in an almost-completely model-independent way, providing thus a strong result. A background analysis is also performed, simulating the detector performance to particle identification. It is found that the existing bounds in the MeV-range can be improved by one order of magnitude in different detection channels.

We briefly review the global Standard Model fit to electroweak precision data, and discuss the status of electroweak constraints on new interactions. We follow a general effective Lagrangian approach to obtain model-independent limits on the dimensio n-six operators, as well as on several common new physics extensions.
We explore the sensitivity of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) near detector and the proposed DUNE-PRISM movable near detector to sub-GeV dark matter, specifically scalar dark matter coupled to the Standard Model via a sub-GeV dark pho ton. We consider dark matter produced in the DUNE target that travels to the detector and scatters off electrons. By combining searches for dark matter at many off-axis positions with DUNE-PRISM, sensitivity to this scenario can be much stronger than when performing a measurement at one on-axis position.

The Fermi effective theory of the weak interaction helped identify the structure of the electroweak sector of the Standard Model, and the chiral effective Lagrangian pointed towards QCD as the theory of the strong interactions. The Standard Model Eff ective Field Theory (SMEFT) is a systematic and model-independent framework for characterizing experimental deviations from the predictions of the Standard Model and pointing towards the structures of its possible extensions that is complementary to direct searches for new physics beyond the Standard Model. This talk summarizes results from the first global fit to data from LHC Run 2 and earlier experiments including dimension-6 SMEFT operators, and gives examples how it can be used to constrain scenarios for new physics beyond the Standard Model. In addition, some windows for probing dimension-8 SMEFT operators are also mentioned.
