Fluid flows containing dilute or dense suspensions of thin fibers are widespread in biological and industrial processes. To describe the motion of a thin immersed fiber, or to describe the forces acting on it, it is convenient to work with one-dimensional fiber centerlines and force densities rather than two-dimensional surfaces and surface tractions. Slender body theories offer ways to model and simulate the motion of immersed fibers using only one-dimensional data. However, standard formulations can break down when the fiber surface comes close to intersecting itself or other fibers. In this paper we introduce a numerical method for a recently derived three-dimensional slender body boundary value problem that can be stated entirely in terms of a one-dimensional distribution of forces on the centerline. The method is based on a new completed single-layer potential formulation of fluid velocity which circumvents some of the traditional conditioning issues associated with the unmodified single layer potential. We give numerical results demonstrating the good conditioning and improved performance of the method in the presence of near-intersections.

We develop a numerical method for solving the boundary value problem of The Linear Seventh Ordinary Boundary Value Problem by using seventh degree B-Spline function. Formulation is based on particular terms of order of seventh order boundary value pr oblem. We obtain Septic B-Spline formulation and the Collocation B-spline Method is formulated as an approximation solution. We apply the presented method to solve an example of seventh-order boundary value problem which the results show that there is an agreement between approximate solutions and exact solutions. Resulting low absolute errors show that the presented numerical method is effective for solving high order boundary value problems. Finally, a general conclusion has been included.
This article deals with the efficient and accurate computation of the electrostatic forces between charged, spherical dielectric particles undergoing mutual polarisation. We use the spectral Galerkin boundary integral equation framework developed by Lindgren et al. (J. Comput. Phys. 371 (2018): 712-731) and subsequently analysed in two earlier contributions of the authors to propose a linear scaling in cost algorithm for the computation of the approximate forces. We establish exponential convergence of the method and derive error estimates for the approximate forces that do not explicitly depend on the number of dielectric particles $N$. Consequently, the proposed method requires only $mathcal{O}(N)$ operations to compute the electrostatic forces acting on $N$ dielectric particles up to any given and fixed relative error.
We propose a new iterative scheme to compute the numerical solution to an over-determined boundary value problem for a general quasilinear elliptic PDE. The main idea is to repeatedly solve its linearization by using the quasi-reversibility method wi th a suitable Carleman weight function. The presence of the Carleman weight function allows us to employ a Carleman estimate to prove the convergence of the sequence generated by the iterative scheme above to the desired solution. The convergence of the iteration is fast at an exponential rate without the need of an initial good guess. We apply this method to compute solutions to some general quasilinear elliptic equations and a large class of first-order Hamilton-Jacobi equations. Numerical results are presented.

This paper constructs and analyzes a boundary correction finite element method for the Stokes problem based on the Scott-Vogelius pair on Clough-Tocher splits. The velocity space consists of continuous piecewise quadratic polynomials, and the pressur e space consists of piecewise linear polynomials without continuity constraints. A Lagrange multiplier space that consists of continuous piecewise quadratic polynomials with respect to boundary partition is introduced to enforce boundary conditions as well as to mitigate the lack of pressure-robustness. We prove several inf-sup conditions, leading to the well-posedness of the method. In addition, we show that the method converges with optimal order and the velocity approximation is divergence free.

In this work we present an adaptive boundary element method for computing the electromagnetic response of wave interactions in hyperbolic metamaterials. One unique feature of hyperbolic metamaterial is the strongly directional wave in its propagating cone, which induces sharp transition for the solution of the integral equation across the cone boundary when wave starts to decay or grow exponentially. In order to avoid a global refined mesh over the whole boundary, we employ a two-level a posteriori error estimator and an adaptive mesh refinement procedure to resolve the singularity locally for the solution of the integral equation. Such an adaptive procedure allows for the reduction of the degree of freedom significantly for the integral equation solver while achieving desired accuracy for the solution. In addition, to resolve the fast transition of the fundamental solution and its derivatives accurately across the propagation cone boundary, adaptive numerical quadrature rules are applied to evaluate the integrals for the stiff matrices. Finally, in order to formulate the integral equations over the boundary, we also derive the limits of layer potentials and their derivatives in the hyperbolic media when the target points approach the boundary.
