Understanding of the interaction of antiferromagnetic solitons including domain walls and skyrmions with boundaries of chiral antiferromagnetic slabs is important for the design of prospective antiferromagnetic spintronic devices. Here, we derive the transition from spin lattice to micromagnetic nonlinear $sigma$-model with the corresponding boundary conditions for a chiral cubic G-type antiferromagnet and analyze the impact of the slab boundaries and antisymmetric exchange (Dzyaloshinskii--Moriya interaction) on the vector order parameter. We apply this model to evaluate modifications of antiferromagnetic domain walls and skyrmions upon interaction with boundaries for different strengths of the antisymmetric exchange. Due to the presence of the antisymmetric exchange, both types of antiferromagnetic solitons become broader when approaching the boundary and transform to a mixed Bloch--N{e}el structure. Both textures feel the boundary at the distance of about 5 magnetic lengths. In this respect, our model provides design rules for antiferromagnetic racetracks, which can support bulk-like properties of solitons.

Spin-triplet superconductivity is a condensate of electron pairs with spin-1 and an odd-parity wavefunction. A particularly interesting manifestation of triplet pairing is a chiral p-wave state which is topologically non-trivial and a natural platfor m for realizing Majorana edge modes. Triplet pairing is however rare in solid state systems and so far, no unambiguous identification has been made in any bulk compound. Since pairing is most naturally mediated by ferromagnetic spin fluctuations, uranium based heavy fermion systems containing f electron elements that can harbor both strong correlations and magnetism are considered ideal candidate spin-triplet superconductors. In this work we present scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) studies of the newly discovered heavy fermion superconductor, UTe2 with a T$_{SC}$ of 1.6 K. We find signatures of coexisting Kondo effect and superconductivity which show competing spatial modulations within one unit-cell. STM spectroscopy at step edges show signatures of chiral in-gap states, predicted to exist at the boundaries of a topological superconductor. Combined with existing data indicating triplet pairing, the presence of chiral edge states suggests that UTe2 is a strong candidate material for chiral-triplet topological superconductivity.
Spin correlations in the pyrochlore antiferromagnet Y_2Ru_2O_7 with Curie-Weiss temperature $Theta_{CW}=-1100$ K and critical temperature T_N=77 K were examined through neutron scattering. For $T_N<T<Theta_{CW}/3$ the data show spin relaxation with a rate $hbarGamma= 1.17(9)k_BT$. For T<T_N spectral weight moves to higher energies with substantial changes up to $4times k_BT_N$. For T<<T_N there is a $Delta=11(1)$ meV energy gap and a pronounced spectral maximum at 19.7 meV. Throughout the temperature range examined the wave vector dependence of inelastic scattering exhibits a broad peak for $Qdapprox 3.8$ (d is Ru-Ru spacing) consistent with dipolar spin correlations.
The unique functionalities of antiferromagnets offer promising routes to advance information technology. Their compensated magnetic order leads to spin resonances in the THz-regime, which suggest the possibility to coherently control antiferromagneti c (AFM) devices orders of magnitude faster than traditional electronics. However, the required time resolution, complex sublattice interations and the relative inaccessibility of the AFM order parameter pose serious challenges to studying AFM spin dynamics. Here, we reveal the temporal evolution of an AFM order parameter directly in the time domain. We modulate the AFM order in hexagonal YMnO$_mathrm{3}$ by coherent magnon excitation and track the ensuing motion of the AFM order parameter using time-resolved optical second-harmonic generation (SHG). The dynamic symmetry reduction by the moving order parameter allows us to separate electron dynamics from spin dynamics. As transient symmetry reductions are common to coherent excitations, we have a general tool for tracking the ultrafast motion of an AFM order parameter.

CrSb is a layered antiferromagnet (AFM) with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, a high N{e}el temperature, and large spin-orbit coupling (SOC), which makes it interesting for AFM spintronic applications. To elucidate the various mechanisms of N{e}el vector control, the effects of strain, band filling, and electric field on the magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) of bulk and thin-film CrSb are determined and analysed using density functional theory. The MAE of the bulk crystal is large (1.2 meV per unit cell). Due to the significant ionic nature of the Cr-Sb bond, finite slabs are strongly affected by end termination. Truncation of the bulk crystal to a thin film with one surface terminated with Cr and the other surface terminated with Sb breaks inversion symmetry, creates a large charge dipole and average electric field across the film, and breaks spin degeneracy, such that the thin film becomes a ferrimagnet. The MAE is reduced such that its sign can be switched with realistic strain, and the large SOC gives rise to an intrinsic voltage controlled magnetic anisotropy (VCMA). A slab terminated on both faces with Cr remains a compensated AFM, but with the compensation occurring nonlocally between mirror symmetric Cr pairs. In-plane alignment of the moments is preferred, the magnitude of the MAE remains large, similar to that of the bulk, and it is relatively insensitive to filling.
A central tenant in the classification of phases is that boundary conditions cannot affect the bulk properties of a system. In this work, we show striking, yet puzzling, evidence of a clear violation of this assumption. We use the prototypical exampl e of an XYZ chain with no external field in a ring geometry with an odd number of sites and both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions. In such a setting, even at finite sizes, we are able to calculate directly the spontaneous magnetizations that are traditionally used as order parameters to characterize the systems phases. When ferromagnetic interactions dominate, we recover magnetizations that in the thermodynamic limit lose any knowledge about the boundary conditions and are in complete agreement with standard expectations. On the contrary, when the system is governed by antiferromagnetic interactions, the magnetizations decay algebraically to zero with the system size and are not staggered, despite the AFM coupling. We term this behavior {it ferromagnetic mesoscopic magnetization}. Hence, in the antiferromagnetic regime, our results show an unexpected dependence of a local, one--spin expectation values on the boundary conditions, which is in contrast with predictions from the general theory.
