In real time electricity markets, the objective of generation companies while bidding is to maximize their profit. The strategies for learning optimal bidding have been formulated through game theoretical approaches and stochastic optimization problems. Similar studies in reactive power markets have not been reported so far because the network voltage operating conditions have an increased impact on reactive power markets than on active power markets. Contrary to active power markets, the bids of rivals are not directly related to fuel costs in reactive power markets. Hence, the assumption of a suitable probability distribution function is unrealistic, making the strategies adopted in active power markets unsuitable for learning optimal bids in reactive power market mechanisms. Therefore, a bidding strategy is to be learnt from market observations and experience in imperfect oligopolistic competition-based markets. In this paper, a pioneer work on learning optimal bidding strategies from observation and experience in a three-stage reactive power market is reported.

Online real-time bidding (RTB) is known as a complex auction game where ad platforms seek to consider various influential key performance indicators (KPIs), like revenue and return on investment (ROI). The trade-off among these competing goals needs to be balanced on a massive scale. To address the problem, we propose a multi-objective reinforcement learning algorithm, named MoTiAC, for the problem of bidding optimization with various goals. Specifically, in MoTiAC, instead of using a fixed and linear combination of multiple objectives, we compute adaptive weights overtime on the basis of how well the current state agrees with the agents prior. In addition, we provide interesting properties of model updating and further prove that Pareto optimality could be guaranteed. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method on a real-world commercial dataset. Experiments show that the model outperforms all state-of-the-art baselines.

The uncertainties from distributed energy resources (DERs) bring significant challenges to the real-time operation of microgrids. In addition, due to the nonlinear constraints in the AC power flow equation and the nonlinearity of the battery storage model, etc., the optimization of the microgrid is a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem. It is challenging to solve this kind of stochastic nonlinear optimization problem. To address the challenge, this paper proposes a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) based optimization strategy for the real-time operation of the microgrid. Specifically, we construct the detailed operation model for the microgrid and formulate the real-time optimization problem as a Markov Decision Process (MDP). Then, a double deep Q network (DDQN) based architecture is designed to solve the MINLP problem. The proposed approach can learn a near-optimal strategy only from the historical data. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is validated by the simulations on a 10-bus microgrid system and a modified IEEE 69-bus microgrid system. The numerical simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms several existing methods.

Game tree search algorithms such as minimax have been used with enormous success in turn-based adversarial games such as Chess or Checkers. However, such algorithms cannot be directly applied to real-time strategy (RTS) games because a number of reas ons. For example, minimax assumes a turn-taking game mechanics, not present in RTS games. In this paper we present RTMM, a real-time variant of the standard minimax algorithm, and discuss its applicability in the context of RTS games. We discuss its strengths and weaknesses, and evaluate it in two real-time games.

Games with large branching factors pose a significant challenge for game tree search algorithms. In this paper, we address this problem with a sampling strategy for Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) algorithms called {em na{i}ve sampling}, based on a va riant of the Multi-armed Bandit problem called {em Combinatorial Multi-armed Bandits} (CMAB). We analyze the theoretical properties of several variants of {em na{i}ve sampling}, and empirically compare it against the other existing strategies in the literature for CMABs. We then evaluate these strategies in the context of real-time strategy (RTS) games, a genre of computer games characterized by their very large branching factors. Our results show that as the branching factor grows, {em na{i}ve sampling} outperforms the other sampling strategies.

Nowadays, human resource is an important part of various resources of enterprises. For enterprises, high-loyalty and high-quality talented persons are often the core competitiveness of enterprises. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to predict whether employees leave and reduce the turnover rate of employees. First, this paper established a multi-layer perceptron predictive model of employee turnover rate. A model based on Sarsa which is a kind of reinforcement learning algorithm is proposed to automatically generate a set of strategies to reduce the employee turnover rate. These strategies are a collection of strategies that can reduce the employee turnover rate the most and cost less from the perspective of the enterprise, and can be used as a reference plan for the enterprise to optimize the employee system. The experimental results show that the algorithm can indeed improve the efficiency and accuracy of the specific strategy.
