Bismuth perovskites ABiO$_3$ (A = Sr, Ba) host a variety of peculiar phenomena including bond-disproportionated insulating phases and high-temperature superconductivity upon hole doping. While the mechanisms underlying these phenomena are still debated, off-diagonal electron-phonon ($e$-ph) coupling originating from the modulation of the orbital overlaps has emerged as a promising candidate. Here, we employ classical Monte Carlo simulations to study a semiclassical three-orbital model with off-diagonal $e$-ph interactions. We demonstrate the existence of a (bi)polaron correlations that persists in the model at high temperatures and for hole doping away from the bond-disproportionated insulating phase. Using a spatiotemporal regression analysis between various local quantities and the lattice degrees of freedom, we also identify the similarity between heating- and doping-induced melting of a bond-disproportionated insulator at a microscopic level. Our results imply that (bi)polaron physics can be a unifying concept that helps us understand the rich bismuth perovskite phase diagram.

The recent discovery of superconductivity under high pressure in the ladder compound BaFe$_2$S$_3$ has opened a new field of research in iron-based superconductors with focus on quasi one-dimensional geometries. In this publication, using the Density Matrix Renormalization Group technique, we study a two-orbital Hubbard model defined in one dimensional chains. Our main result is the presence of hole binding tendencies at intermediate Hubbard $U$ repulsion and robust Hund coupling $J_H/U=0.25$. Binding does not occur neither in weak coupling nor at very strong coupling. The pair-pair correlations that are dominant near half-filling, or of similar strength as the charge and spin correlation channels, involve hole-pair operators that are spin singlets, use nearest-neighbor sites, and employ different orbitals for each hole. The Hund coupling strength, presence of robust magnetic moments, and antiferromagnetic correlations among them are important for the binding tendencies found here.
We present numeric results for ground state and angle resolved photoemission spectra (ARPES) for single hole in t-J model coupled to optical phonons. The systematic-error free diagrammatic Monte Carlo is employed where the Feynman graphs for the Mats ubara Green function in imaginary time are summed up completely with respect to phonons variables, while magnetic variables are subjected to non-crossing approximation. We obtain that at electron-phonon coupling constants relevant for high Tc cuprates the polaron undergoes self-trapping crossover to strong coupling limit and theoretical ARPES demonstrate features observed in experiment: a broad peak in the bottom of the spectra has momentum dependence which coincides with that of hole in pure t-J model.
Inelastic neutron scattering (INS), electron spin (ESR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements were employed to establish the origin of the strong magnetic signal in lightly hole-doped La_{1-x}Sr_xCoO_3, x=0.002. Both, INS and ESR low temp erature spectra show intense excitations with large effective g-factors ~10-18. NMR data indicate the creation of extended magnetic clusters. From the Q-dependence of the INS magnetic intensity we conclude that the observed anomalies are caused by the formation of octahedrally shaped spin-state polarons comprising seven Co ions.
The conventional tensor-network states employ real-space product states as reference wave functions. Here, we propose a many-variable variational Monte Carlo (mVMC) method combined with tensor networks by taking advantages of both to study fermionic models. The variational wave function is composed of a pair product wave function operated by real space correlation factors and tensor networks. Moreover, we can apply quantum number projections, such as spin, momentum and lattice symmetry projections, to recover the symmetry of the wave function to further improve the accuracy. We benchmark our method for one- and two-dimensional Hubbard models, which show significant improvement over the results obtained individually either by mVMC or by tensor network. We have applied the present method to hole doped Hubbard model on the square lattice, which indicates the stripe charge/spin order coexisting with a weak $d$-wave superconducting order in the ground state for the doping concentration less than 0.3, where the stripe oscillation period gets longer with increasing hole concentration. The charge homogeneous and highly superconducting state also exists as a metastable excited state for the doping concentration less than 0.25.
Superconductivity in layered copper-oxide compounds emerges when charge carriers are added to antiferromagnetically-ordered CuO2 layers. The carriers destroy the antiferromagnetic order, but strong spin fluctuations persist throughout the superconduc ting phase and are intimately linked to super-conductivity. Neutron scattering measurements of spin fluctuations in hole-doped copper oxides have revealed an unusual `hour-glass feature in the momentum-resolved magnetic spectrum, present in a wide range of superconducting and non-superconducting materials. There is no widely-accepted explanation for this feature. One possibility is that it derives from a pattern of alternating spin and charge stripes, an idea supported by measurements on stripe-ordered La1.875Ba0.125CuO4. However, many copper oxides without stripe order also exhibit an hour-glass spectrum$. Here we report the observation of an hour-glass magnetic spectrum in a hole-doped antiferromagnet from outside the family of superconducting copper oxides. Our system has stripe correlations and is an insulator, which means its magnetic dynamics can conclusively be ascribed to stripes. The results provide compelling evidence that the hour-glass spectrum in the copper-oxide superconductors arises from fluctuating stripes.
