The transverse-field Ising model on the triangular lattice is expected to host an intermediate finite-temperature Kosterlitz-Thouless (KT) phase through a mapping of the spins on each triangular unit to a complex order parameter. TmMgGaO$_4$ is a candidate material to realize such physics due to the non-Kramers nature of Tm$^{3+}$ ion and the resulting two-singlet single-ion ground state. Using inelastic neutron scattering, we confirm this picture by determining the leading parameters of the low-energy effective Hamiltonian of TmMgGaO$_4$. Subsequently, we track the predicted KT phase and related transitions by inspecting the field and temperature dependence of the ac susceptibility. We further probe the spin correlations in both reciprocal space and real space via single crystal neutron diffraction and magnetic total scattering techniques, respectively. Magnetic pair distribution function analysis provides evidence for the formation of vortex-antivortex pairs that characterize the proposed KT phase around 5~K. Although structural disorder influences the field-induced behavior of TmMgGaO$_4$, the magnetism in zero field appears relatively free from these effects. These results position TmMgGaO$_4$ as a strong candidate for a solid-state realization of KT physics in a dense spin system.

We investigate non-equilibrium properties of the frustrated Heisenberg antiferromagnets on the triangular lattice. Nonequilibrium critical relaxation of frustrated Heisenberg antiferromagnets shows a dynamic transition (or, at least, sharp crossover) at the same temperature $T_{rm u}=0.282 J$ as for static properties due to unbinding of $mathbb{Z}_2$-vortices. We show that starting from the high-temperature initial state, due to presence of $mathbb{Z}_2$-vortices in the considering system, in a broad temperature range $T<T_{rm u}$ the dynamic properties in the intermediate time range are similar to those of two-dimensional XY model below Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition. The interaction of $mathbb{Z}_2$-vortices with spin-wave degrees of freedom does not emerge until rather long times.
The classical Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a triangular lattice with the single-ion anisotropy of the easy-axis type is theoretically investigated. The mean-field phase diagram in an external magnetic field is constructed. Three finite-temperature B erezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transitions are found by the Monte Carlo simulations in zero field. The two upper transitions are related to the breaking of the discrete ${mathbb Z}_{6}$ symmetry group, while the lowest transition is associated with a quasi-long-range ordering of transverse components. The intermediate collinear phase between first and second transitions is the sliding phase predicted by J. V. Jose {it et al}. [Phys. Rev. B {bf 16}, 1217 (1977)].
Frustrated quasidoublets without time-reversal symmetry can host highly unconventional magnetic structures with continuously distributed order parameters even in a single-phase crystal. Here, we report the comprehensive thermodynamic and neutron diff raction investigation on the single crystal of TmMgGaO$_4$, which entails non-Kramers Tm$^{3+}$ ions arranged on a geometrically perfect triangular lattice. The crystal electric field (CEF) randomness caused by the site-mixing disorder of the nonmagnetic Mg$^{2+}$ and Ga$^{3+}$ ions, merges two lowest-lying CEF singlets of Tm$^{3+}$ into a ground-state (GS) quasidoublet. Well below $T_c$ $sim$ 0.7 K, a small fraction of the antiferromagnetically coupled Tm$^{3+}$ Ising quasidoublets with small inner gaps condense into two-dimensional (2D) up-up-down magnetic structures with continuously distributed order parameters, and give rise to the emph{columnar} magnetic neutron reflections below $mu_0H_c$ $sim$ 2.6 T, with highly anisotropic correlation lengths, $xi_{ab}$ $geq$ 250$a$ in the triangular plane and $xi_c$ $<$ $c$/12 between the planes. The remaining fraction of the Tm$^{3+}$ ions remain nonmagnetic at 0 T and become uniformly polarized by the applied longitudinal field at low temperatures. We argue that the similar model can be generally applied to other compounds of non-Kramers rare-earth ions with correlated GS quasidoublets.

We report the single-crystal growth and the fundamental magnetic and thermodynamic properties of a rare-earth triangular lattice antiferromagnet CeCd$_3$As$_3$. In this rare-earth antiferromagnet, the Ce local moments form a perfect triangular lattic e. Due to the spin-orbital-entangled nature of the Ce local moments, the compound exhibits extremely anisotropic antiferromagnetic couplings along the c direction and in the ab plane respectively. We show that CeCd$_3$As$_3$ represents a {it rare} experimental realization of an antiferromagnetic Ising model on a two dimensional triangular lattice and thus provides a prototype example for geometrical frustration. We further discuss the quantum effect of the perturbative interactions on the top of the predominant Ising interaction.
We study the triangular-lattice Ising model with dipolar interactions, inspired by its realisation in artificial arrays of nanomagnets. We show that a classical spin-liquid forms at intermediate temperatures, and that its behaviour can be tuned by te mperature and/or a small lattice distortion between a string Luttinger liquid and a domain-wall-network state. At low temperature there is a transition into a magnetically ordered phase, which can be first-order or continous with a crossover in the critical behaviour between Pokrovsky-Talapov and 2D-Ising universality. When the Pokrovsky-Talapov criticality dominates, the transition is essentially of the Kasteleyn type.
