Learning from imperfect data becomes an issue in many industrial applications after the research community has made profound progress in supervised learning from perfectly annotated datasets. The purpose of the Learning from Imperfect Data (LID) workshop is to inspire and facilitate the research in developing novel approaches that would harness the imperfect data and improve the data-efficiency during training. A massive amount of user-generated data nowadays available on multiple internet services. How to leverage those and improve the machine learning models is a high impact problem. We organize the challenges in conjunction with the workshop. The goal of these challenges is to find the state-of-the-art approaches in the weakly supervised learning setting for object detection, semantic segmentation, and scene parsing. There are three tracks in the challenge, i.e., weakly supervised semantic segmentation (Track 1), weakly supervised scene parsing (Track 2), and weakly supervised object localization (Track 3). In Track 1, based on ILSVRC DET, we provide pixel-level annotations of 15K images from 200 categories for evaluation. In Track 2, we provide point-based annotations for the training set of ADE20K. In Track 3, based on ILSVRC CLS-LOC, we provide pixel-level annotations of 44,271 images for evaluation. Besides, we further introduce a new evaluation metric proposed by cite{zhang2020rethinking}, i.e., IoU curve, to measure the quality of the generated object localization maps. This technical report summarizes the highlights from the challenge. The challenge submission server and the leaderboard will continue to open for the researchers who are interested in it. More details regarding the challenge and the benchmarks are available at https://lidchallenge.github.io

Surgical data science is revolutionizing minimally invasive surgery by enabling context-aware applications. However, many challenges exist around surgical data (and health data, more generally) needed to develop context-aware models. This work - pres ented as part of the Endoscopic Vision (EndoVis) challenge at the Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) 2020 conference - seeks to explore the potential for visual domain adaptation in surgery to overcome data privacy concerns. In particular, we propose to use video from virtual reality (VR) simulations of surgical exercises in robotic-assisted surgery to develop algorithms to recognize tasks in a clinical-like setting. We present the performance of the different approaches to solve visual domain adaptation developed by challenge participants. Our analysis shows that the presented models were unable to learn meaningful motion based features form VR data alone, but did significantly better when small amount of clinical-like data was also made available. Based on these results, we discuss promising methods and further work to address the problem of visual domain adaptation in surgical data science. We also release the challenge dataset publicly at https://www.synapse.org/surgvisdom2020.
This paper reviews the Challenge on Image Demoireing that was part of the New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement (NTIRE) workshop, held in conjunction with CVPR 2020. Demoireing is a difficult task of removing moire patterns from an image to reveal an underlying clean image. The challenge was divided into two tracks. Track 1 targeted the single image demoireing problem, which seeks to remove moire patterns from a single image. Track 2 focused on the burst demoireing problem, where a set of degraded moire images of the same scene were provided as input, with the goal of producing a single demoired image as output. The methods were ranked in terms of their fidelity, measured using the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) between the ground truth clean images and the restored images produced by the participants methods. The tracks had 142 and 99 registered participants, respectively, with a total of 14 and 6 submissions in the final testing stage. The entries span the current state-of-the-art in image and burst image demoireing problems.
This paper presents the results and analyses stemming from the first VoicePrivacy 2020 Challenge which focuses on developing anonymization solutions for speech technology. We provide a systematic overview of the challenge design with an analysis of s ubmitted systems and evaluation results. In particular, we describe the voice anonymization task and datasets used for system development and evaluation. Also, we present different attack models and the associated objective and subjective evaluation metrics. We introduce two anonymization baselines and provide a summary description of the anonymization systems developed by the challenge participants. We report objective and subjective evaluation results for baseline and submitted systems. In addition, we present experimental results for alternative privacy metrics and attack models developed as a part of the post-evaluation analysis. Finally, we summarize our insights and observations that will influence the design of the next VoicePrivacy challenge edition and some directions for future voice anonymization research.
This paper reviews the NTIRE 2020 challenge on real image denoising with focus on the newly introduced dataset, the proposed methods and their results. The challenge is a new version of the previous NTIRE 2019 challenge on real image denoising that w as based on the SIDD benchmark. This challenge is based on a newly collected validation and testing image datasets, and hence, named SIDD+. This challenge has two tracks for quantitatively evaluating image denoising performance in (1) the Bayer-pattern rawRGB and (2) the standard RGB (sRGB) color spaces. Each track ~250 registered participants. A total of 22 teams, proposing 24 methods, competed in the final phase of the challenge. The proposed methods by the participating teams represent the current state-of-the-art performance in image denoising targeting real noisy images. The newly collected SIDD+ datasets are publicly available at: https://bit.ly/siddplus_data.
As facial interaction systems are prevalently deployed, security and reliability of these systems become a critical issue, with substantial research efforts devoted. Among them, face anti-spoofing emerges as an important area, whose objective is to i dentify whether a presented face is live or spoof. Recently, a large-scale face anti-spoofing dataset, CelebA-Spoof which comprised of 625,537 pictures of 10,177 subjects has been released. It is the largest face anti-spoofing dataset in terms of the numbers of the data and the subjects. This paper reports methods and results in the CelebA-Spoof Challenge 2020 on Face AntiSpoofing which employs the CelebA-Spoof dataset. The model evaluation is conducted online on the hidden test set. A total of 134 participants registered for the competition, and 19 teams made valid submissions. We will analyze the top ranked solutions and present some discussion on future work directions.
