Neutron diffraction and magnetic susceptibility studies show that orthorhombic single-crystals of topological semimetals ${rm Sr(Mn_{0.9}Cu_{0.1})Sb_2}$ and ${rm Sr(Mn_{0.9}Zn_{0.1})Sb_2}$ undergo three dimensional C-type antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering of the Mn$^{2+}$ moments at $T_N = 200pm10$ and $210pm12$ K, respectively, significantly lower than that of the parent SrMnSb$_2$ with $T_N=297 pm 3$ K. Magnetization versus applied magnetic field (perpendicular to MnSb planes) below $T_N$ exhibits slightly modified de Haas van Alphen oscillations for the Zn-doped crystal as compared to that of the parent compound. By contrast, the Cu-doped system does not show de Haas van Alphen magnetic oscillations, suggesting that either Cu substitution for Mn changes the electronic structure of the parent compound substantially, or that the Cu sites are strong scatterers of carriers that significantly shorten their mean free path thus diminishing the oscillations. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations including spin-orbit coupling predict the C-type AFM state for the parent, Cu-, and Zn-doped systems and identify the $a$-axis (i.e., perpendicular to the Mn layer) as the easy magnetization direction in the parent and 12.5% of Cu or Zn substitutions. In contrast, 25% of Cu content changes the easy magnetization to the $b$-axis (i.e., within the Mn layer). We find that the incorporation of Cu and Zn in SrMnSb$_2$ tunes electronic bands near the Fermi level resulting in different band topology and semi-metallicity. The parent and Zn-doped systems have coexistence of electron and hole pockets with opened Dirac cone around the Y-point whereas the Cu-doped system has dominant hole pockets around the Fermi level with a distorted Dirac cone. The tunable electronic structure may point out possibilities of rationalizing the experimentally observed de Haas van Alphen magnetic oscillations.

We present a route to grow single crystals of Ba$_{0.9}$Sr$_{0.1}$CuSi$_{2}$O$_{6}$ suitable for inelastic neutron studies via the floating zone technique. Neutron single crystal diffraction was utilized to check their bulk quality and orientation. F inally, the high quality of the grown crystals was proven by X-ray diffraction and magnetic susceptibility.
An emerging area in condensed matter physics is the use of multilayered heterostructures to enhance ferroelectricity in complex oxides. Here, we demonstrate that optically pumping carriers across the interface between thin films of a ferroelectric (F E) insulator and a ferromagnetic metal can significantly enhance the FE polarization. The photoinduced FE state remains stable at low temperatures for over one day. This occurs through screening of the internal electric field by the photoexcited carriers, leading to a larger, more stable polarization state that may be suitable for applications in areas such as data and energy storage.

Up to now, for the conventional exchange bias (EB) systems there has been one pinning phase and one pinned phase, and the pinning and pinned phases are inherent to the material and do not mutually transform into each other. Interestingly, we show her e that EB is observed in a special system (Fe2O3)0.1(FeTiO3)0.9 (HI9) different from the conventional EB system. Neutron powder diffraction and magnetic measurement confirm that for HI9: i) two types of short range antiferromagnetic ordering coexist, ii) there are two pinning phases and one pinned phase, iii) the pinned phase is not intrinsic to the structure but can be dynamically produced from the pinning phase with the help of an external magnetic field. Consequently, two anomalous EB behaviors are observed: i) both the coercivity (HC) and the exchange bias field (HE) simultaneously decrease to zero at 30 K, ii) for a high cooling field (Hcool) HE decreases logarithmically with increasing Hcool. Using Arrott plots it is confirmed that the first order magnetic phase transformation (FOMPT) from the AFM Fe2+ to ferromagnetic (FM) Fe2+ and the second order magnetic phase transformation (SOMPT) for the process whereby the FM Fe2+ aligns with the external field direction coexist in HI-9. The Morin transition and FOMPT cause the anomalous EB behaviors. This work may provide fresh ideas for research into EB behavior.
Magneto-optical imaging was used to study the local magnetization in polycrystalline NdFeAsO$_{0.9}$F$_{0.1}$ (NFAOF). Individual crystallites up to $sim200times100times30$ $mu m^{3}$ in size could be mapped at various temperatures. The in-grain, per sistent current density is about $jsim10^{5}$ A/cm$^{2}$ and the magnetic relaxation rate in a remanent state peaks at about $T_{m}sim38$ K. By comparison with with the total magnetization measured in a bar-shaped, dense, polycrystalline sample, we suggest that NdFeAsO$_{0.9}$F$_{0.1}$ is similar to a layered high-$T_{c}$, compound such as Bi$_{2}$Sr$_{2}$CaCu$_{2}$O$_{8+x}$ and exhibits a $3Dto2D$ crossover in the vortex structure. The 2D Ginzburg parameter is about $Gi^{2D}% simeq10^{-2}$ implying electromagnetic anisotropy as large as $epsilon sim1/30$. Below $T_{m}$, the static and dynamic behaviors are consistent with collective pinning and creep.

Low barrier quasiparticle tunneling spectroscopy on Sr$_{0.9}$La$_{0.1}$CuO$_2$ has been studied with PtIr/Sr$_{0.9}$La$_{0.1}$CuO$_2$ point contacts at various temperatures and magnetic fields. No zero-bias conductance peaks are observed. By fitting tunneling conductance to Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk theory, the temperature dependent s-wave superconducting gaps are obtained. The present results exclude the possibility of d-wave symmetry for the pair gap in Sr$_{0.9}$La$_{0.1}$CuO$_2$, and do not support the conventional phonon mediated pairing in this system either.
