This paper studies the Laplacian spectrum and the average effective resistance of (large) graphs that are sampled from graphons. Broadly speaking, our main finding is that the Laplacian eigenvalues of a large dense graph can be effectively approximated by using the degree function of the corresponding graphon. More specifically, we show how to approximate the distribution of the Laplacian eigenvalues and the average effective resistance (Kirchhoff index) of the graph. For all cases, we provide explicit bounds on the approximation errors and derive the asymptotic rates at which the errors go to zero when the number of nodes goes to infinity. Our main results are proved under the conditions that the graphon is piecewise Lipschitz and bounded away from zero.

We introduce a system-wide safety staffing (SWSS) parameter for multiclass multi-pool networks of any tree topology, Markovian or non-Markovian, in the Halfin-Whitt regime. This parameter can be regarded as the optimal reallocation of the capacity fl uctuations (positive or negative) of order $sqrt{n}$ when each server pool employs a square-root staffing rule. We provide an explicit form of the SWSS as a function of the system parameters, which is derived using a graph theoretic approach based on Gaussian elimination. For Markovian networks, we give an equivalent characterization of the SWSS parameter via the drift parameters of the limiting diffusion. We show that if the SWSS parameter is negative, the limiting diffusion and the diffusion-scaled queueing processes are transient under any Markov control, and cannot have a stationary distribution when this parameter is zero. If it is positive, we show that the diffusion-scaled queueing processes are uniformly stabilizable, that is, there exists a scheduling policy under which the stationary distributions of the controlled processes are tight over the size of the network. In addition, there exists a control under which the limiting controlled diffusion is exponentially ergodic. Thus we have identified a necessary and sufficient condition for the uniform stabilizability of such networks in the Halfin-Whitt regime. We use a constant control resulting from the leaf elimination algorithm to stabilize the limiting controlled diffusion, while a family of Markov scheduling policies which are easy to compute are used to stabilize the diffusion-scaled processes. Finally, we show that under these controls the processes are exponentially ergodic and the stationary distributions have exponential tails.
In this paper we address the problem of determining whether the eigenspaces of a class of weighted Laplacians on Cayley graphs are generically irreducible or not. This work is divided into two parts. In the first part, we express the weighted Laplaci an on Cayley graphs as the divergence of a gradient in an analogous way to the approach adopted in Riemannian geometry. In the second part, we analyze its spectrum on left-invariant Cayley graphs endowed with an invariant metric in both directed and undirected cases. We give some criteria for a given eigenspace being generically irreducible. Finally, we introduce an additional operator which is comparable to the Laplacian, and we verify that the same criteria hold.

We study the spectrum of the normalized Laplace operator of a connected graph $Gamma$. As is well known, the smallest nontrivial eigenvalue measures how difficult it is to decompose $Gamma$ into two large pieces, whereas the largest eigenvalue contro ls how close $Gamma$ is to being bipartite. The smallest eigenvalue can be controlled by the Cheeger constant, and we establish a dual construction that controls the largest eigenvalue. Moreover, we find that the neighborhood graphs $Gamma[l]$ of order $lgeq2$ encode important spectral information about $Gamma$ itself which we systematically explore. In particular, the neighborhood graph method leads to new estimates for the smallest nontrivial eigenvalue that can improve the Cheeger inequality, as well as an explicit estimate for the largest eigenvalue from above and below. As applications of such spectral estimates, we provide a criterion for the synchronizability of coupled map lattices, and an estimate for the convergence rate of random walks on graphs.

The paper is based on Noars model of charged queues. We extend this model into multi-server systems with information about length and service rate disclosed for all the customers, and the customers can choose the optimal options. We discuss whether t he splitting strategy of the server resource could bring more revenue for the service provider. We prove that any G/D/1 server supplier cannot earn more revenue by splitting his resource under the equal-toll limitations.
Network data can be conveniently modeled as a graph signal, where data values are assigned to nodes of a graph that describes the underlying network topology. Successful learning from network data is built upon methods that effectively exploit this g raph structure. In this work, we leverage graph signal processing to characterize the representation space of graph neural networks (GNNs). We discuss the role of graph convolutional filters in GNNs and show that any architecture built with such filters has the fundamental properties of permutation equivariance and stability to changes in the topology. These two properties offer insight about the workings of GNNs and help explain their scalability and transferability properties which, coupled with their local and distributed nature, make GNNs powerful tools for learning in physical networks. We also introduce GNN extensions using edge-varying and autoregressive moving average graph filters and discuss their properties. Finally, we study the use of GNNs in recommender systems and learning decentralized controllers for robot swarms.
