Measuring the spectral properties of an optical frequency comb is among the most fundamental tasks of precision metrology. In contrast to general single-parameter measurement schemes, we demonstrate here single shot multiparameter estimation at and beyond the standard quantum limit. The mean energy and the central frequency of ultrafast pulses are simultaneously determined with a multi-pixel-spectrally-resolved (MPSR) apparatus, without changing the photonics architecture. Moreover, using a quantum frequency comb that consists of multiple squeezed states in a family of Hermite-Gaussian spectral/temporal modes, the signal-to-noise ratios of the mean energy and the central frequency measurements surpass the shot-noise limit by around 19% and 15%, respectively. Combining our multi-pixel detection scheme and the intrinsic multimode quantum resource could find applications in ultrafast quantum metrology and multimode quantum information processing.

We demonstrate the use of an optical frequency comb to coherently control and entangle atomic qubits. A train of off-resonant ultrafast laser pulses is used to efficiently and coherently transfer population between electronic and vibrational states o f trapped atomic ions and implement an entangling quantum logic gate with high fidelity. This technique can be extended to the high field regime where operations can be performed faster than the trap frequency. This general approach can be applied to more complex quantum systems, such as large collections of interacting atoms or molecules.

We have built a frequency chain which enables to measure the absolute frequency of a laser emitting in the 28-31 THz frequency range and stabilized onto a molecular absorption line. The set-up uses an optical frequency comb and an ultrastable 1.55 $m u$m frequency reference signal, transferred from LNE-SYRTE to LPL through an optical link. We are now progressing towards the stabilization of the mid-IR laser via the frequency comb and the extension of this technique to quantum cascade lasers. Such a development is very challenging for ultrahigh resolution molecular spectroscopy and fundamental tests of physics with molecules.
We propose a quantum-enhanced iterative (with $K$ steps) measurement scheme based on an ensemble of $N$ two-level probes which asymptotically approaches the Heisenberg limit $delta_K propto R^{-K/(K+1)}$, $R$ the number of quantum resources. The prot ocol is inspired by Kitaevs phase estimation algorithm and involves only collective manipulation and measurement of the ensemble. The iterative procedure takes the shot-noise limited primary measurement with precision $delta_1propto N^{-1/2}$ to increasingly precise results $delta_Kpropto N^{-K/2}$. A straightforward implementation of the algorithm makes use of a two-component atomic cloud of Bosons in the precision measurement of a magnetic field.
We suggest an all-optical scheme for the storage, retrieval and processing of a single-photon wave packet through its off-resonant Raman interaction with a series of coherent control beams. These control beams, each with distinct carrier frequency, a re distributed along the way of single-photon propagation, thus effectively forming a gradient absorption structure which can be controlled in various ways to achieve different single-photon processing functionalities. Such a controllable frequency comb is a hybrid of Raman, gradient echo memory (GEM) and atomic frequency comb (AFC) methods, therefore demonstrates many of their advantages all together in one.
We propose a method to generate stabilized radio-frequency polarization modulation based on optical frequency combs. Two pulse trains with the same repetition rate and different offset frequencies generate arbitrary polarization states that are modul ated at the offset frequency difference. Long-term stability of the polarization modulation is demonstrated with the modulation frequency at frep/2. Modulation at frep/4 is also demonstrated to show the flexibility of the technique. We employ an electrical delay line to fine-tune the polarization states that constitute the time-dependent modulation.
