We study gauge (in)dependence of the gravitational waves (GWs) induced from curvature perturbations. For the GWs produced in a radiation-dominated era, we find that the observable (late-time) GWs in the TT gauge and in the Newtonian gauge are the same in contrast to a claim in the literature. We also mention the interpretation of the gauge dependence of the tensor perturbations which appears in the context of the induced GWs.

We present analytic integral solutions for the second-order induced gravitational waves (GWs). After presenting all the possible second-order source terms, we calculate explicitly the solutions for the GWs induced by the linear scalar and tensor pert urbations during matter- and radiation-dominated epochs.
The gauge dependence of the scalar induced gravitational waves (SIGWs) generated at the second order imposes a challenge to the discussion of the secondary gravitational waves generated by scalar perturbations. We provide a general formula that is va lid in any gauge for the calculation of SIGWs and the relationship for SIGWs calculated in various gauges under the coordinate transformation. The formula relating SIGWs in the Newtonian gauge to other gauges is used to calculate SIGWs in six different gauges. We find that the Newtonian gauge, the uniform curvature gauge, the synchronous gauge and the uniform expansion gauge yield the same result for the energy density of SIGWs. We also identify and eliminate the pure gauge modes that exist in the synchronous gauge. In the total matter gauge and the comoving orthogonal gauge, the energy density of SIGWs increases as $eta^2$. While in the uniform density gauge, the energy density of SIGWs increases as $eta^6$.
We investigate the propagation of primordial gravitational waves within the context of the Horndeski theories, for this, we present a generalized transfer function quantifying the sub-horizon evolution of gravitational waves modes after they enter th e horizon. We compare the theoretical prediction of the modified primordial gravitational waves spectral density with the aLIGO, Einstein telescope, LISA, gLISA and DECIGO sensitivity curves. Assuming reasonable and different values for the free parameters of the theory (in agreement with the event GW170817 and stability conditions of the theory), we note that the gravitational waves amplitude can vary significantly in comparison with general relativity. We find that in some cases the gravitational primordial spectrum can cross the sensitivity curves for DECIGO detector with the maximum frequency sensitivity to the theoretical predictions around 0.05 - 0.30 Hz. From our results, it is clear that the future generations of space based interferometers can bring new perspectives to probing modifications in general relativity.

We consider the gravitational radiation in conformal gravity theory. We perturb the metric from flat Mikowski space and obtain the wave equation after introducing the appropriate transformation for perturbation. We derive the effective energy-momentu m tensor for the gravitational radiation, which can be used to determine the energy carried by gravitational waves.
This is a summary of presentations delivered at the OC1 parallel session Primordial Gravitational Waves and the CMB of the 12th Marcel Grossmann meeting in Paris, July 2009. The reports and discussions demonstrated significant progress that was achie ved in theory and observations. It appears that the existing data provide some indications of the presence of gravitational wave contribution to the CMB anisotropies, while ongoing and planned observational efforts are likely to convert these indications into more confident statements about the actual detection.
