We sketch the calculation of the pion structure functions within the DSE framework, following two alternative albeit consistent approaches, and discuss then their QCD evolution, the running driven by an effective charge, from a hadronic scale up to any larger one accessible to experiment.

We discuss the longitudinal structure function in nuclear DIS at small $x$. We work within the framework of universal parton densities obtained in DGLAP analyses at NLO. We show that the nuclear effects on the longitudinal structure function closely follow those on the gluon distribution. The error analyses available from newest sets of nuclear PDFs also allow to propagate the uncertainties from present data. In this way, we evaluate the minimal sensitivity required in future experiments for this observable to improve the knowledge of the nuclear glue. We further discuss the uncertainties on the extraction of $F_2$ off nuclear targets, introduced by the usual assumption that the ratio $F_L/F_2$ is independent of the nuclear size. We focus on the kinematical regions relevant for future lepton-ion colliders.
We discuss the extended on-mass-shell scheme for manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. We present a calculation of pion photo- and electroproduction up to and including order $q^4$. The low-energy constants have been fixed b y fitting experimental data in all available reaction channels. Our results can be accessed via a web interface, the so-called chiral MAID (http://www.kph.uni-mainz.de/MAID/chiralmaid/). We explain how our program works and how it can be used for further analysis.
Recent attempts to determine the pion polarizability by dispersion relations yield values that disagree with the predictions of chiral perturbation theory. These dispersion relations are based on specific forms for the absorptive part of the Compton amplitudes. The analytic properties of these forms are examined, and the strong enhancement of intermediate-meson contributions is shown to be connected with spurious singularities. If the basic requirements of dispersion relations are taken into account, the results of dispersion theory and effective field theory are not inconsistent.
Using the light-front pion wave function based on a Bethe-Salpeter amplitude model, we study the properties of the pion in symmetric nuclear matter. The pion model we adopt is well constrained by previous studies to explain the pion properties in vac uum. In order to consistently incorporate the constituent up and down quarks of the pion immersed in symmetric nuclear matter, we use the quark-meson coupling model, which has been widely applied to various hadronic and nuclear phenomena in a nuclear medium with success. We predict the in-medium modifications of the pion lectromagnetic form factor, charge radius and weak decay constant in symmetric nuclear matter.
We study one pion production in both charged and neutral current neutrino nucleus scattering for neutrino energies below 2 GeV. We use a theoretical model for one pion production at the nucleon level that we correct for medium effects. The results ar e incorporated into a cascade program that apart from production also includes the pion final state interaction inside the nucleus. Besides, in some specific channels coherent pion production is also possible and we evaluate its contribution as well. Our results for total and differential cross sections are compared with recent data from the MiniBooNE Collaboration. The model provides an overall acceptable description of data, better for NC than for CC channels, although theory is systematically below data. Differential cross sections, folded with the full neutrino flux, show that most of the missing pions lie on the forward direction and at high energies.
