It is noted that some results of the authors research papers cited in the comprehensive review paper The Science of Sungrazers, Sunskirters, and Other Near-Sun Comets by G. H. Jones et al. (2018) have been factually misrepresented. The purpose of this note is to offer (i) revisions in order to correct the numerous errors and inaccuracies and (ii) additions where the text is confusing.

A 2000-2017 set of long-period comets with high-quality orbits of perihelion distance <1 AU is used to show that the objects that perish shortly before perihelion are nearly exclusively the Oort Cloud comets, especially those with perihelia within 0. 6 AU of the Sun, intrinsically fainter, and dust poor. Their propensity for disintegration is much higher than predicted by Bortles perihelion survival rule, prompting the author to propose a new synoptic index to be tested in future prognostication efforts. By their susceptibility to demise near the Sun, the nuclei of Oort Cloud comets differ dramatically from the nuclei of other long-period comets that almost always survive. In this scenario, `Oumuamua -- discovered after perihelion -- is in all probability a major piece of debris of an interstellar comet that was bound to perish near perihelion if it was similar to, though much fainter than, the known Oort Cloud comets. The nondetection of `Oumuamua by the Spitzer Space Telescope is compatible with optical data for pancake shape, but not for cigar shape, with the maximum dimension not exceeding 160 m (at an 0.1 albedo). Although the solar radiation pressure induced nongravitational acceleration requires very high porosity, `Oumuamuas estimated mass is orders of magnitude greater than for a cloud of unbound submicron-sized dust grains of equal cross section. The acceleration could have displaced `Oumuamua by 250,000 km in 50 days, scattering other potential debris over a large volume of space.

Since its launch in 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has served as a platform with unique capabilities for remote observations of comets in the far-ultraviolet region of the spectrum. Successive generations of imagers and spectrographs have see n large advances in sensitivity and spectral resolution enabling observations of the diverse properties of a representative number of comets during the past 25 years. To date, four comets have been observed in the far-ultraviolet by the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS), the last spectrograph to be installed in HST, in 2009: 103P/Hartley 2, C/2009 P1 (Garradd), C/2012 S1 (ISON), and C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy). COS has unprecedented sensitivity, but limited spatial information in its 2.5 arcsec diameter circular aperture, and our objective was to determine the CO production rates from measurements of the CO Fourth Positive system in the spectral range of 1400 to 1700 A. In the two brightest comets, nineteen bands of this system were clearly identified. The water production rates were derived from nearly concurrent observations of the OH (0,0) band at 3085 A by the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS). The derived CO/H2O production rate ratio ranged from ~0.3% for Hartley 2 to ~22% for Garradd. In addition, strong partially resolved emission features due to multiplets of S I, centered at 1429 A and 1479 A, and of C I at 1561 A and 1657 A, were observed in all four comets. Weak emission from several lines of the H2 Lyman band system, excited by solar Lyman-alpha and Lyman-beta pumped fluorescence, were detected in comet Lovejoy.

Even linear operators on infinite-dimensional spaces can display interesting dynamical properties and yield important links among functional analysis, differential and global geometry and dynamical systems, with a wide range of applications. In parti cular, hypercyclicity is an essentially infinite-dimensional property, when iterations of the operator generate a dense subspace. A Frechet space admits a hypercyclic operator if and only if it is separable and infinite-dimensional. However, by considering the semigroups generated by multiples of operators, it is possible to obtain hypercyclic behaviour on finite dimensional spaces. This article gives a brief review of some recent work on hypercyclicity of operators on Banach, Hilbert and Frechet spaces.
We propose a LSST Solar System near-Sun Survey, to be implemented during twilight hours, that extends the seasonal reach of LSST to its maximum as fresh sky is uncovered at about 50 square degrees per night (1500 sq. deg. per lunation) in the morning eastern sky, and surveyable sky is lost at the same rate to the western evening sky due to the Earths synodic motion. By establishing near-horizon fence post picket lines to the far west and far east we address Solar System science use cases (including Near Earth Objects, Interior Earth Objects, Potentially Hazardous Asteroids, Earth Trojans, near-Sun asteroids, sun-grazing comets, and dormant comets) as well as provide the first look and last look that LSST will have at the transient and variable objects within each survey field. This proposed near-Sun Survey will also maximize the overlap with the field of regard of the proposed NEOCam spacecraft that will be stationed at the Earths L1 Lagrange point and survey near quadrature with the Sun. This will allow LSST to incidently follow-up NEOCam targets and vice-versa (as well as targets from missions such as Euclid), and will roughly correspond to the Earths L4 and L5 regions.
Since very recently, we acquired knowledge on the existence of comets in extrasolar planetary systems. The formation of comets together with planets around host stars now seems evident. As stars are often born in clusters of interstellar clouds, the interaction between the systems will lead to the exchange of material at the edge of the clouds. Therefore, almost every planetary system should have leftover remnants as a result of planetary formation in form of comets at the edges of those systems. These Oort clouds around stars are often disturbed by different processes (e.g., galactic tides, passing stars, etc.), which consequently scatter bodies from the distant clouds into the system close to the host star. Regarding the Solar System, we observe this outcome in the form of cometary families. This knowledge supports the assumption of the existence of comets around other stars. In the present work, we study the orbital dynamics of hypothetical exocomets, based on detailed computer simulations, in three star-planet systems, which are: HD~10180, 47~UMa, and HD~141399. These systems host one or more Jupiter-like planets, which change the orbits of the incoming comets in characteristic ways.
