We explore the complete cross-section for the production of unpolarized hadrons in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering up to power-suppressed $mathcal{O}(1/Q^2)$ terms in the Wandzura-Wilczek-type (WW-type) approximation, which consists in systematically assuming that $bar{q}gq$-correlators are much smaller than $bar{q}q$-correlators. Under the applicability of WW-type approximations, certain relations among transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) and fragmentation functions (FFs) occur which are used to approximate SIDIS cross-section in terms of a smaller subset of TMDs and FFs. We discuss the applicability of the WW-type approximations on the basis of available data.

Motivated by a novel origin of transverse single spin asymmetry (SSA) in semi-inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) uncovered by some of us, we quantitatively investigate its impact on the theoretical understanding of the mechanism responsible for SSA. This new contribution from the quark-initiated channel first appears in two-loop perturbation theory and involves the $g_T(x)$ distribution. We point out another entirely analogous piece from the gluon-initiated channel proportional to the gluon helicity distribution $Delta G(x)$. Both contributions are solely expressed in terms of twist-two polarized parton distribution functions and twist-two fragmentation functions in the Wandzura-Wilczek approximation, such that they can be unambiguously evaluated without introducing free parameters. We make predictions for measurements of the asymmetries $A_{UT}$ at the future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), and find that $A_{UT}$ associated with the $sin (phi_h-phi_S)$, $sin phi_S$ and $sin (2phi_h-phi_S)$ harmonics can reach up to 1-2% even at the top EIC energy.
Vector-boson pair production is an important background for Higgs boson and new physics searches at the Large Hadron Collider LHC. We have calculated the loop-induced gluon-fusion process gg -> WW -> leptons, allowing for arbitrary invariant masses o f the intermediate W bosons. This process contributes at O(alpha_s^2) relative to quark-antiquark annihilation, but its importance is enhanced by the large gluon flux at the LHC and by experimental cuts employed in Higgs boson searches. We find that gg -> WW provides only a moderate correction (ca. 5%) to the inclusive W-pair production cross section at the LHC. However, after taking into account realistic experimental cuts, the gluon-fusion process becomes significant and increases the theoretical WW background estimate for Higgs searches in the pp -> H -> WW -> leptons channel by approximately 30%.
Method of polarized semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) data analysis in the next to leading order (NLO) QCD is developed. Within the method one first directly extracts in NLO few first truncated (available to measurement) Mellin moments of the quark helicity distributions. Second, using these moments as an input to the proposed modification of the Jacobi polynomial expansion method (MJEM), one eventually reconstructs the local quark helicity distributions themselves. All numerical tests demonstrate that MJEM allows us to reproduce with the high precision the input local distributions even inside the narrow Bjorken $x$ region accessible for experiment. It is of importance that only four first input moments are sufficient to achieve a good quality of reconstruction. The application of the method to the simulated SIDIS data on the pion production is considered. The obtained results encourage one that the proposed NLO method can be successfully applied to the SIDIS data analysis. The analysis of HERMES data on pion production is performed. To this end the pion difference asymmetries are constructed from the measured by HERMES standard semi-inclusive spin asymmetries. The LO results of the valence distribution reconstruction are in a good accordance with the respective leading order SMC and HERMES results, while the NLO results are in agreement with the existing NLO parametrizations on these quantities.

We report on the calculation of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production of W-boson pairs in association with a hard jet at the Tevatron and the LHC, which is an important source of background for Higgs and new-physics searches. Th e corrections stabilize the leading-order prediction for the cross section considerably, in particular if a veto against the emission of a second hard jet is applied.
We investigate the role of anomalous gauge boson and fermion couplings on the production of $WZ$ and $W^+W^-$ pairs at the LHC to NLO QCD in the Standard Model effective field theory, including dimension-6 operators. Our results are implemented in a publicly available version of the POWHEG-BOX. We combine our $WZ$ results in the leptonic final state $e u mu^+mu^-$ with previous $W^+W^-$ results to demonstrate the numerical effects of NLO QCD corrections on the limits on effective couplings derived from ATLAS and CMS 8 and 13 TeV differential measurements. Our study demonstrates the importance of including NLO QCD SMEFT corrections in the $WZ$ analysis, while the effects on $WW$ production are smaller. We also show that the $mathcal{O}(1/Lambda^4)$ contributions dominate the analysis, where $Lambda$ is the high energy scale associated with the SMEFT.
