Despite numerous advantages, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique can bring additional interference for the neighboring ultra-dense networks if the power consumption of the system is not properly optimized. While targeting on the green communication concept, in this paper, we propose an energy-efficient downlink resource allocation scheme for a NOMA-equipped cellular network. The objective of this work is to allocate subchannels and power of the base station among the users so that the overall energy efficiency is maximized. Since this problem is NP-hard, we attempt to find an elegant solution with reasonable complexity that provides good performance for some realistic applications. To this end, we decompose the problem into a subchannel allocation subproblem followed by a power loading subproblem that allocates power to each users data stream on each of its allocated subchannels. We first employ a many-to-many matching model under the assumption of uniform power loading in order to obtain the solution of the first subproblem with reasonable performance. Once the the subchannel-user mapping information is known from the first solution, we propose a geometric programming (GP)-based power loading scheme upon approximating the energy efficiency of the system by a ratio of two posynomials. The techniques adopted for these subproblems better exploit the available multi-user diversity compared to the techniques used in an earlier work. Having observed the computational overhead of the GP-based power loading scheme, we also propose a suboptimal computationally-efficient algorithm for the power loading subproblem with a polynomial time complexity that provides reasonably good performance. Extensive simulation has been conducted to verify that our proposed solution schemes always outperform the existing work while consuming much less power at the base station.

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is envisioned to be one of the most beneficial technologies for next generation wireless networks due to its enhanced performance compared to other conventional radio access techniques. Although the principle of NOMA allows multiple users to use the same frequency resource, due to decoding complication, information of users in practical systems cannot be decoded successfully if many of them use the same channel. Consequently, assigned spectrum of a system needs to be split into multiple subchannels in order to multiplex that among many users. Uplink resource allocation for such systems is more complicated compared to the downlink ones due to the individual users power constraints and discrete nature of subchannel assignment. In this paper, we propose an uplink subchannel and power allocation scheme for such systems. Due to the NP-hard and non-convex nature of the problem, the complete solution, that optimizes both subchannel assignment and power allocation jointly, is intractable. Consequently, we solve the problem in two steps. First, based on the assumption that the maximal power level of a user is subdivided equally among its allocated subchannels, we apply many-to-many matching model to solve the subchannel-user mapping problem. Then, in order to enhance the performance of the system further, we apply iterative water-filling and geometric programming two power allocation techniques to allocate power in each allocated subchannel-user slot optimally. Extensive simulation has been conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. The results demonstrate that the proposed scheme always outperforms all existing works in this context under all possible scenarios.
Enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and ultrareliable and low-latency communications (URLLC) are two major expected services in the fifth-generation mobile communication systems (5G). Specifically, eMBB applications support extremely high data rate comm unications, while URLLC services aim to provide stringent latency with high reliability communications. Due to their differentiated quality-of-service (QoS) requirements, the spectrum sharing between URLLC and eMBB services becomes a challenging scheduling issue. In this paper, we aim to investigate the URLLC and eMBB coscheduling/coexistence problem under a puncturing technique in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems. The objective function is formulated to maximize the data rate of eMBB users while satisfying the latency requirements of URLLC users through joint user selection and power allocation scheduling. To solve this problem, we first introduce an eMBB user clustering mechanism to balance the system performance and computational complexity. Thereafter, we decompose the original problem into two subproblems, namely the scheduling problem of user selection and power allocation. We introduce a Gale-Shapley (GS) theory to solve with the user selection problem, and a successive convex approximation (SCA) and a difference of convex (D.C.) programming to deal with the power allocation problem. Finally, an iterative algorithm is utilized to find the global solution with low computational complexity. Numerical results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms, and also verify the proposed approach outperforms other baseline methods.
We investigate the joint uplink-downlink design for time-division-duplexing (TDD) and frequency-division-duplexing (FDD) multi-user systems aided by an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). We formulate and solve a multi-objective optimization proble m to maximize uplink and downlink rates as a weighted-sum problem (WSP) that captures the trade-off between achievable uplink and downlink rates. We propose a resource allocation design that optimizes the WSP by jointly optimizing the beamforming vectors, power control and IRS phase shifts where the same IRS configuration is used for assisting uplink and downlink transmissions. In TDD, the proposed IRS design reduces the overhead associated with IRS configuration and the need for quiet periods while updating the IRS. In addition, a joint IRS design is critical for supporting concurrent uplink and downlink transmissions in FDD. We investigate the effect of different user-weighting strategies and different parameters on the performance of the joint IRS design and the resultant uplink-downlink trade-off regions. In all FDD scenarios and some TDD scenarios, the joint design significantly outperforms the heuristic of using the IRS configuration optimized for uplink (respectively, downlink) to assist the downlink (respectively, uplink) transmissions and substantially bridges the gap to the upper bound of allowing different IRS configurations in uplink and downlink.
In this paper, we propose a novel joint intelligent trajectory design and resource allocation algorithm based on users mobility and their requested services for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) assisted networks, where UAVs act as nodes of a network f unction virtualization (NFV) enabled network. Our objective is to maximize energy efficiency and minimize the average delay on all services by allocating the limited radio and NFV resources. In addition, due to the traffic conditions and mobility of users, we let some Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) to migrate from their current locations to other locations to satisfy the Quality of Service requirements. We formulate our problem to find near-optimal locations of UAVs, transmit power, subcarrier assignment, placement, and scheduling the requested services functions over the UAVs and perform suitable VNF migration. Then we propose a novel Hierarchical Hybrid Continuous and Discrete Action (HHCDA) deep reinforcement learning method to solve our problem. Finally, the convergence and computational complexity of the proposed algorithm and its performance analyzed for different parameters. Simulation results show that our proposed HHCDA method decreases the request reject rate and average delay by 31.5% and 20% and increases the energy efficiency by 40% compared to DDPG method.
Recently, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) assisted multi-access edge computing (MEC) systems emerged as a promising solution for providing computation services to mobile users outside of terrestrial infrastructure coverage. As each UAV operates indep endently, however, it is challenging to meet the computation demands of the mobile users due to the limited computing capacity at the UAVs MEC server as well as the UAVs energy constraint. Therefore, collaboration among UAVs is needed. In this paper, a collaborative multi-UAV-assisted MEC system integrated with a MEC-enabled terrestrial base station (BS) is proposed. Then, the problem of minimizing the total latency experienced by the mobile users in the proposed system is studied by optimizing the offloading decision as well as the allocation of communication and computing resources while satisfying the energy constraints of both mobile users and UAVs. The proposed problem is shown to be a non-convex, mixed-integer nonlinear problem (MINLP) that is intractable. Therefore, the formulated problem is decomposed into three subproblems: i) users tasks offloading decision problem, ii) communication resource allocation problem and iii) UAV-assisted MEC decision problem. Then, the Lagrangian relaxation and alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) methods are applied to solve the decomposed problems, alternatively. Simulation results show that the proposed approach reduces the average latency by up to 40.7% and 4.3% compared to the greedy and exhaustive search methods.
