We report electrical conductivity measurements of Polymethyl-methacrylate filled by onion-like carbon particles with primary particle size of $approx 5$ nm. We shown that the conductivity $sigma$ is exceptionally high even at very low loadings, and that its low-temperature dependence follows a Coulomb gap regime at atmospheric pressure and an activated behavior at a pressure of $2$ GPa. We interpret this finding in terms of the enhancement under the applied pressure of the effective dielectric permittivity within the aggregates of onion-like carbons, which improves the screening of the Coulomb interaction and reduces the optimal hopping distance of the electrons.

We experimentally and numerically examine stress-dependent electrical transport in granular materials to elucidate the origins of their universal dielectric response. The ac responses of granular systems under varied compressive loadings consistently exhibit a transition from a resistive plateau at low frequencies to a state of nearly constant loss at high frequencies. By using characteristic frequencies corresponding to the onset of conductance dispersion and measured direct-current resistance as scaling parameters to normalize the measured impedance, results of the spectra under different stress states collapse onto a single master curve, revealing well-defined stress-independent universality. In order to model this electrical transport, a contact network is constructed on the basis of prescribed packing structures, which is then used to establish a resistor-capacitor network by considering interactions between individual particles. In this model the frequency-dependent network response meaningfully reproduces the experimentally observed master curve exhibited by granular materials under various normal stress levels indicating this universal scaling behaviour is found to be governed by i) interfacial properties between grains and ii) the network configuration. The findings suggest the necessity of considering contact morphologies and packing structures in modelling electrical responses using network-based approaches.
We study charge transport in a monolayer molybdenum disulfide nanoflake over a wide range of carrier density, temperature, and electric bias. We find that the transport is best described by a percolating picture in which the disorder breaks translati onal invariance, breaking the system up into a series of puddles, rather than previous pictures in which the disorder is treated as homogeneous and uniform. Our work provides insight to a unified picture of charge transport in monolayer molybdenum disulfide nanoflakes and contributes to the development of next-generation molybdenum disulfide based devices.
We study the dynamics of Dirac and Weyl electrons in disordered point-node semimetals. The ballistic feature of the transport is demonstrated by simulating the wave-packet dynamics on lattice models. We show that the ballistic transport survives unde r a considerable strength of disorder up to the semimetal-metal transition point, which indicates the robustness of point-node semimetals against disorder. We also visualize the robustness of the nodal points and linear dispersion under broken translational symmetry. The speed of the wave packets slows down with increasing disorder strength, and vanishes toward the critical strength of disorder, hence becoming the order parameter. The obtained critical behavior of the speed of the wave packets is consistent with that predicted by the scaling conjecture.
The charge transport mechanism in amorphous oxide semiconductors (AOS) is a matter of controversial debates. Most theoretical studies so far neglected the percolation nature of the phenomenon. In this article, a recipe for theoretical description of charge transport in AOSs is formulated using the percolation arguments. Comparison with the previous theoretical studies shows a superiority of the percolation approach. The results of the percolation theory are compared to experimental data obtained in various InGaZnO materials revealing parameters of the disorder potential in such AOS.
We analyze, both theoretically and numerically, the temperature dependent thermal conductivity k{appa} of two-dimensional nanowires with surface roughness. Although each sample is characterized by three independent parameters - the diameter (width) o f the wire, the correlation length and strength of the surface corrugation - our theory predicts that there exists a universal regime where k{appa} is a function of a single combination of all three model parameters. Numerical simulations of propagation of acoustic phonons across thin wires confirm this universality and predict a d 1/2 dependence of k{appa} on the diameter d.
