We report the compact and robust coherent source operating in mid-IR based on Fe:ZnSe chalcogenide gain medium optically pumped by Er:ZBLAN fiber laser. The output power of 2.1 W with 59% slope efficiency with respect to absorbed pump power at liquid nitrogen cooling is achieved. We show that strong re-absorption at high pump power and iron ion doping concentrations leads to the continuous tuning of central wavelength from 4012 to 4198 nm. Robustness of high power Er:ZBLAN fiber laser combined with prominent spectroscopic properties of Fe:ZnSe media pave the way for the development of reliable tunable CW mid-IR sources for scientific and industrial purposes.

10 {mu}m lasing is studied in a compact CO2-He cell pressurized up to 15 atm when optically pumped by a ~50 mJ Fe:ZnSe laser tunable around 4.3 {mu}m. The optimal pump wavelength and partial pressure of CO2 for generating 10 {mu}m pulses are found to be ~4.4 {mu}m and 0.75 atm, respectively. Without cavity optimization, the optical-to-optical conversion efficiency reached ~10% at a total pressure of 7 atm. The gain lifetime is measured to be ~1 {mu}s at pressures above 10 atm, indicating the feasibility of using high-pressure optically pumped CO2 for the efficient amplification of picosecond 10 {mu}m pulses.
Emission at 4.6 um was observed from an N2O filled hollow core fiber laser. 8-ns pump pulses at 1.517 um excited a vibrational overtone resulting in lasing on an R and P branch fundamental transition from the upper pump state. At optimum gas pressure of 80 Torr a photon conversion efficiency of 9% and a slope efficiency of 3% was observed from a mirrorless laser. The laser threshold occurred at an absorbed pump energy of 150 nJ in a 45-cm long fiber with 85 {mu}m core diameter. The observed dependence of the laser output on gas pressure is shown to be a result of line broadening and relaxation rates.

We report on 33 % efficient generation of the first Stokes in a high concentration GeO2 fiber Raman laser pumped by a 22 W Thulium doped fiber laser. An output power of 4.6 W at 2.105 um is demonstrated.
Supercontinuum (SC) generation based on ultrashort pulse compression constitutes one of the most promising technologies towards an ultra-wide bandwidth, high-brightness and spatially coherent light sources for applications such as spectroscopy and mi croscopy. Here, multi-octave SC generation in a gas-filled hollow-core antiresonant fiber (HC-ARF) is reported spanning from 200 nm in the deep ultraviolet (DUV) to 4000 nm in the mid-infrared (mid-IR). A measured average output power of 5 mW was obtained by pumping at the center wavelength of the first anti-resonance transmission window (2460 nm) with ~100 fs pulses and an injected pulse energy of ~7-8 {mu}J. The mechanism behind the extreme spectral broadening relies upon intense soliton-plasma nonlinear dynamics which leads to efficient soliton self-compression and phase-matched dispersive wave (DW) emission in the DUV region. The strongest DW is observed at 275 nm having an estimated pulse energy of 1.42 {mu}J, corresponding to 28.4 % of the total output energy. Furthermore, the effect of changing the pump pulse energy and gas pressure on the nonlinear dynamics and their direct impact on SC generation was investigated. The current work paves a new way towards novel investigations of gas-based ultrafast nonlinear optics in the emerging mid-IR spectral regime.
We report on a highly-efficient experimental scheme for the generation of deep-ultraviolet ultrashort light pulses using four-wave mixing in gas-filled kagome-style photonic crystal fiber. By pumping with ultrashort, few $mu$J, pulses centered at 400 nm, we generate an idler pulse at 266 nm, and amplify a seeded signal at 800 nm. We achieve remarkably high pump-to-idler energy conversion efficiencies of up to 38%. Although the pump and seed pulse durations are ~100 fs, the generated ultraviolet spectral bandwidths support sub-15 fs pulses. These can be further extended to support few-cycle pulses. Four-wave mixing in gas-filled hollow-core fibres can be scaled to high average powers and different spectral regions such as the vacuum ultraviolet (100-200 nm).
