In the computation of Feynman integrals which evaluate to multiple polylogarithms one encounters quite often square roots. To express the Feynman integral in terms of multiple polylogarithms, one seeks a transformation of variables, which rationalizes the square roots. In this paper, we give an algorithm for rationalizing roots. The algorithm is applicable whenever the algebraic hypersurface associated with the root has a point of multiplicity $(d-1)$, where $d$ is the degree of the algebraic hypersurface. We show that one can use the algorithm iteratively to rationalize multiple roots simultaneously. Several examples from high energy physics are discussed.

We show that direct Feynman-parametric loop integration is possible for a large class of planar multi-loop integrals. Much of this follows from the existence of manifestly dual-conformal Feynman-parametric representations of planar loop integrals, an d the fact that many of the algebraic roots associated with (e.g. Landau) leading singularities are automatically rationalized in momentum-twistor space---facilitating direct integration via partial fractioning. We describe how momentum twistors may be chosen non-redundantly to parameterize particular integrals, and how strategic choices of coordinates can be used to expose kinematic limits of interest. We illustrate the power of these ideas with many concrete cases studied through four loops and involving as many as eight particles. Detailed examples are included as ancillary files to this works submission to the arXiv.
We approach string phenomenology from the perspective of computational algebraic geometry, by providing new and efficient techniques for proving stability and calculating particle spectra in heterotic compactifications. This is done in the context of complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds in a single projective space where we classify positive monad bundles. Using a combination of analytic methods and computer algebra we prove stability for all such bundles and compute the complete particle spectrum, including gauge singlets. In particular, we find that the number of anti-generations vanishes for all our bundles and that the spectrum is manifestly moduli-dependent.

Feynman integral computations in theoretical high energy particle physics frequently involve square roots in the kinematic variables. Physicists often want to solve Feynman integrals in terms of multiple polylogarithms. One way to obtain a solution i n terms of these functions is to rationalize all occurring square roots by a suitable variable change. In this paper, we give a rigorous definition of rationalizability for square roots of ratios of polynomials. We show that the problem of deciding whether a single square root is rationalizable can be reformulated in geometrical terms. Using this approach, we give easy criteria to decide rationalizability in most cases of square roots in one and two variables. We also give partial results and strategies to prove or disprove rationalizability of sets of square roots. We apply the results to many examples from actual computations in high energy particle physics.
In this work we investigate the interaction between spin-zero and spin-one monopoles by making use of an effective field theory based on two-body and four-body interaction parts. In particular, we analyze the formation of bound state of monopole-anti monopole (i.e. monopolium). The magnetic-charge conjugation symmetry is studied in analogy to the usual charge conjugation to define a particle basis, for which we find bound-state solutions with relatively small binding energies and which allows us to identify the bounds on the parameters in the effective Lagrangians. Estimations of their masses, binding energies and scattering lengths are performed as functions of monopole masses and interaction strength in a specific renormalization scheme. We also examine the general validity of the approach and the feasibility of detecting the monopolium.

We discuss in some detail certain gaps and open problems in the recent paper by E. T. Tomboulis, which claims to give a rigorous proof of quark confinement in 4D lattice Yang-Mills theory for all values of the bare coupling. We also discuss what would be needed to fill the gaps in his proof.
