We report the first experimental measurements of the nine 1-fold differential cross sections for the $gamma p to pi^+pi^-p$ reaction, obtained with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Laboratory. The measurements cover the invariant mass range of the final state hadrons from 1.6~GeV~$<W<$~2.0~GeV. For the first time the photocouplings of all prominent nucleon resonances in this mass range have been extracted from this exclusive channel. Photoproduction of two charged pions is of particular importance for the evaluation of the photocouplings for the $Delta(1620)1/2^-$, $Delta(1700)3/2^-$, $N(1720)3/2^+$, and $Delta(1905)5/2^+$ resonances, which have dominant decays into the $pipi N$ final states rather than the more extensively studied single meson decay channels.

The results on the photo- and electroexcitation amplitudes of most nucleon resonances in the mass range up to 2.0 GeV determined from the CLAS experimental data on exclusive $pi^+pi^-p$ photo-/electroproduction off protons in collaboration between th e Jefferson Lab and Moscow State University are presented. The first and only available results on electroexcitation amplitudes from CLAS in a wide range of photon virtualities $Q^2$ $<$ 5.0 GeV$^2$ revealed the nucleon resonance structure as a complex interplay between the inner core of three dressed quarks and external meson-baryon cloud. These results shed light on the strong QCD dynamics which underlines the generation of excited nucleon states of different structural features from confined quarks and gluons. The future prospects of these studies in the new era of experiments with the CLAS12 detector, which started successfully in Spring of 2018, are outlined.
Exclusive measurements of the p p -> p p pi+ pi- reaction have been carried out at Tp = 775 MeV at CELSIUS using the PROMICE/WASA setup. Together with data obtained at lower energy they point to a dominance of the Roper excitation in this process. Fr om the observed interference of its decay routes N* -> N sigma and N* -> Delta pi -> N sigma their energy-dependent relative branching ratio is determined.
The reaction $gamma p to pi^circ gamma^prime p$ has been measured with the TAPS calorimeter at the Mainz Microtron accelerator facility MAMI for energies between $sqrt{s}$ = 1221--1331 MeV. Cross sections differential in angle and energy have been de termined for all particles in the final state in three bins of the excitation energy. This reaction channel provides access to the magnetic dipole moment of the $Delta^{+}(1232)$ resonance and, for the first time, a value of $mu_{Delta^+} = (2.7_{-1.3}^{+1.0}(stat.) pm 1.5 (syst.) pm 3(theo.)) mu_N$ has been extracted.
A study of the reaction pi+ + d --> p + p has been performed in the energy range of 18 - 44 MeV. Total cross sections and differential cross sections at six angles have been measured at 15 energies with an energy increment of 1 - 2 MeV. This is the m ost systematic data set in this energy range. No structure in the energy dependence of the cross section has been observed within the accuracy of this experiment.

We develop an event mixing technique with a missing mass consistency (MMC) cut and a pion energy (PE) cut for the measurement of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC) in reactions with only two identical pions produced in the final state. A multi mixing mode that allows one event to be mixed with multiple other events is proposed for the purpose of improving the statistics of mixed samples, and compared with the single mixing mode which requires one original event can be mixed only once. Numerical tests using the {gamma}p -> {pi}^0 {pi}^0 p events are used to testify its ability to measure two-pion correlations. To improve the mixing speed, the optimal MMC cut window is also explored via simulations.
