We develop a novel Bayesian framework for dynamic modeling of mixed frequency data to nowcast quarterly U.S. GDP growth. The introduced framework utilizes foundational Bayesian theory and treats data sampled at different frequencies as latent factors that are later synthesized, allowing flexible methodological specifications based on interests and utility. Time-varying inter-dependencies between the mixed frequency data are learnt and effectively mapped onto easily interpretable parameters. A macroeconomic study of nowcasting quarterly U.S. GDP growth using a number of monthly economic variables demonstrates improvements in terms of nowcast performance and interpretability compared to the standard in the literature. The study further shows that incorporating information during a quarter markedly improves the performance in terms of both point and density nowcasts.

We discuss model and forecast combination in time series forecasting. A foundational Bayesian perspective based on agent opinion analysis theory defines a new framework for density forecast combination, and encompasses several existing forecast pooli ng methods. We develop a novel class of dynamic latent factor models for time series forecast synthesis; simulation-based computation enables implementation. These models can dynamically adapt to time-varying biases, miscalibration and inter-dependencies among multiple models or forecasters. A macroeconomic forecasting study highlights the dynamic relationships among synthesized forecast densities, as well as the potential for improved forecast accuracy at multiple horizons.
A dynamic treatment regimen (DTR) is a pre-specified sequence of decision rules which maps baseline or time-varying measurements on an individual to a recommended intervention or set of interventions. Sequential multiple assignment randomized trials (SMARTs) represent an important data collection tool for informing the construction of effective DTRs. A common primary aim in a SMART is the marginal mean comparison between two or more of the DTRs embedded in the trial. This manuscript develops a mixed effects modeling and estimation approach for these primary aim comparisons based on a continuous, longitudinal outcome. The method is illustrated using data from a SMART in autism research.
The minute-by-minute move of the Hang Seng Index (HSI) data over a four-year period is analysed and shown to possess similar statistical features as those of other markets. Based on a mathematical theorem [S. B. Pope and E. S. C. Ching, Phys. Fluids A {bf 5}, 1529 (1993)], we derive an analytic form for the probability distribution function (PDF) of index moves from fitted functional forms of certain conditional averages of the time series. Furthermore, following a recent work by Stolovitzky and Ching, we show that the observed PDF can be reproduced by a Langevin process with a move-dependent noise amplitude. The form of the Langevin equation can be determined directly from the market data.
Federated learning (FL) can empower Internet-of-Vehicles (IoV) networks by leveraging smart vehicles (SVs) to participate in the learning process with minimum data exchanges and privacy disclosure. The collected data and learned knowledge can help th e vehicular service provider (VSP) improve the global model accuracy, e.g., for road safety as well as better profits for both VSP and participating SVs. Nonetheless, there exist major challenges when implementing the FL in IoV networks, such as dynamic activities and diverse quality-of-information (QoI) from a large number of SVs, VSPs limited payment budget, and profit competition among SVs. In this paper, we propose a novel dynamic FL-based economic framework for an IoV network to address these challenges. Specifically, the VSP first implements an SV selection method to determine a set of the best SVs for the FL process according to the significance of their current locations and information history at each learning round. Then, each selected SV can collect on-road information and offer a payment contract to the VSP based on its collected QoI. For that, we develop a multi-principal one-agent contract-based policy to maximize the profits of the VSP and learning SVs under the VSPs limited payment budget and asymmetric information between the VSP and SVs. Through experimental results using real-world on-road datasets, we show that our framework can converge 57% faster (even with only 10% of active SVs in the network) and obtain much higher social welfare of the network (up to 27.2 times) compared with those of other baseline FL methods.
This article concerns a class of generalized linear mixed models for clustered data, where the random effects are mapped uniquely onto the grouping structure and are independent between groups. We derive necessary and sufficient conditions that enabl e the marginal likelihood of such class of models to be expressed in closed-form. Illustrations are provided using the Gaussian, Poisson, binomial and gamma distributions. These models are unified under a single umbrella of conjugate generalized linear mixed models, where conjugate refers to the fact that the marginal likelihood can be expressed in closed-form, rather than implying inference via the Bayesian paradigm. Having an explicit marginal likelihood means that these models are more computationally convenient, which can be important in big data contexts. Except for the binomial distribution, these models are able to achieve simultaneous conjugacy, and thus able to accommodate both unit and group level covariates.
