Hard magnets with high coercivity, such as Nd2Fe14B and SmCo5 alloys, can maintain magnetisation under a high reverse external magnetic field and have therefore become irreplaceable parts in many practical applications. Molecular magnets are promising alternatives, owing to their precise and designable chemical structures, tuneable functionalities and controllable synthetic methods. Here, we demonstrate that an unusually large coercive field can be achieved in a single-chain magnet. Systematic characterisations, including magnetic susceptibility, heat capacity and neutron diffraction measurements, show that the observed giant coercive field originates from the spin dynamics along the one-dimensional chain of the compound because of the strong exchange coupling between Co(II) centres and radicals.

Our all electron (DFBG) calculations show differences between relativistic and non-relativistic calculations for the structure of the isomers of Og(CO)6
A combinatorial model of molecular conformational space that was previously developped (J. Gabarro-Arpa, Comp. Biol. and Chem. 27, (2003) 153-159), had the drawback that structures could not be properly embedded beacause it lacked explicit rotational symmetry. The problem can be circumvented by sorting the elementary 3D components of a molecular system into a finite set of classes that can be separately embedded. This also opens up the possibility of encoding the dynamical states into a graph structure.

The longitudinal magnetic susceptibility of single crystals of the molecular magnet Mn$_{12}$-acetate obeys a Curie-Weiss law, indicating a transition to a ferromagnetic phase due to dipolar interactions. With increasing magnetic field applied transv erse to the easy axis, the transition temperature decreases considerably more rapidly than predicted by mean field theory to a T=0 quantum critical point. Our results are consistent with an effective Hamiltonian for a random-field Ising ferromagnet in a transverse field, where the randomness is induced by an external field applied to Mn$_{12}$-acetate crystals that are known to have an intrinsic distribution of locally tilted magnetic easy axes.
The resolution of any spectroscopic or interferometric experiment is ultimately limited by the total time a particle is interrogated. We here demonstrate the first molecular fountain, a development which permits hitherto unattainably long interrogati on times with molecules. In our experiments, ammonia molecules are decelerated and cooled using electric fields, launched upwards with a velocity between 1.4 and 1.9,m/s and observed as they fall back under gravity. A combination of quadrupole lenses and bunching elements is used to shape the beam such that it has a large position spread and a small velocity spread (corresponding to a transverse temperature of $<$10,$mu$K and a longitudinal temperature of $<$1,$mu$K) when the molecules are in free fall, while being strongly focused at the detection region. The molecules are in free fall for up to 266,milliseconds, making it possible to perform sub-Hz measurements in molecular systems and paving the way for stringent tests of fundamental physics theories.
We report characterization and magnetic studies of mixtures of micrometer-size ribbons of Mn$_{12}$ acetate and micrometer-size particles of YBaCuO superconductor. Extremely narrow zero-field spin-tunneling resonance has been observed in the mixtures , pointing to the absence of the inhomogeneous dipolar broadening. It is attributed to the screening of the internal magnetic fields in the magnetic particles by Josephson currents between superconducting grains surrounding the particles.
