The Dynamic Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows (DVRPTW) is an extension of the well-known Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP), which takes into account the dynamic nature of the problem. This aspect requires the vehicle routes to be updated in an ongoing manner as new customer requests arrive in the system and must be incorporated into an evolving schedule during the working day. Besides the vehicle capacity constraint involved in the classical VRP, DVRPTW considers in addition time windows, which are able to better capture real-world situations. Despite this, so far, few studies have focused on tackling this problem of greater practical importance. To this end, this study devises for the resolution of DVRPTW, an ant colony optimization based algorithm, which resorts to a joint solution construction mechanism, able to construct in parallel the vehicle routes. This method is coupled with a local search procedure, aimed to further improve the solutions built by ants, and with an insertion heuristics, which tries to reduce the number of vehicles used to service the available customers. The experiments indicate that the proposed algorithm is competitive and effective, and on DVRPTW instances with a higher dynamicity level, it is able to yield better results compared to existing ant-based approaches.

The Vehicle Routing Problem with Simultaneous Pickup-Delivery and Time Windows (VRPSPDTW) has attracted much research interest in the last decade, due to its wide application in modern logistics. Since VRPSPDTW is NP-hard and exact methods are only a pplicable to small-scale instances, heuristics and meta-heuristics are commonly adopted. In this paper we propose a novel Memetic Algorithm with efficient local search and extended neighborhood, dubbed MATE, to solve this problem. Compared to existing algorithms, the advantages of MATE lie in two aspects. First, it is capable of more effectively exploring the search space, due to its novel initialization procedure, crossover and large-step-size operators. Second, it is also more efficient in local exploitation, due to its sophisticated constant-time-complexity move evaluation mechanism. Experimental results on public benchmarks show that MATE outperforms all the state-of-the-art algorithms, and notably, finds new best-known solutions on 12 instances (65 instances in total). Moreover, a comprehensive ablation study is also conducted to show the effectiveness of the novel components integrated in MATE. Finally, a new benchmark of large-scale instances, derived from a real-world application of the JD logistics, is introduced, which can serve as a new and more challenging test set for future research.

This paper considers the vehicle routing problem of a fleet operator to serve a set of transportation requests with flexible time windows. That is, the operator presents discounted transportation costs to customers to exchange the time flexibility of pickup or delivery. A win-win routing schedule can be achieved via such a process. Different from previous research, we propose a novel bi-level optimization framework, to fully characterize the interaction and negotiation between the fleet operator and customers. In addition, by utilizing the property of strong duality, and the KKT optimality condition of customer optimization problem, the bi-level vehicle routing problem can be equivalently reformulated as a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem. Besides, an efficient algorithm combining the merits of Lagrangian dual decomposition method and Benders decomposition method, is devised to solve the resultant MINLP problem. Finally, extensive numerical experiments are conducted, which validates the effectiveness of proposed bi-level model on the operation cost saving, and the efficacy of proposed solution algorithm on computation speed.
This paper reviews the overview of the dynamic shortest path routing problem and the various neural networks to solve it. Different shortest path optimization problems can be solved by using various neural networks algorithms. The routing in packet s witched multi-hop networks can be described as a classical combinatorial optimization problem i.e. a shortest path routing problem in graphs. The survey shows that the neural networks are the best candidates for the optimization of dynamic shortest path routing problems due to their fastness in computation comparing to other softcomputing and metaheuristics algorithms

The hydrophobic-polar (HP) model has been widely studied in the field of protein structure prediction (PSP) both for theoretical purposes and as a benchmark for new optimization strategies. In this work we introduce a new heuristics based on Ant Colo ny Optimization (ACO) and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) that we called Hybrid Monte Carlo Ant Colony Optimization (HMCACO). We describe this method and compare results obtained on well known HP instances in the 3 dimensional cubic lattice to those obtained with standard ACO and Simulated Annealing (SA). All methods were implemented using an unconstrained neighborhood and a modified objective function to prevent the creation of overlapping walks. Results show that our methods perform better than the other heuristics in all benchmark instances.
Quantum annealing (QA) is a quantum computing algorithm that works on the principle of Adiabatic Quantum Computation (AQC), and it has shown significant computational advantages in solving combinatorial optimization problems such as vehicle routing p roblems (VRP) when compared to classical algorithms. This paper presents a QA approach for solving a variant VRP known as multi-depot capacitated vehicle routing problem (MDCVRP). This is an NP-hard optimization problem with real-world applications in the fields of transportation, logistics, and supply chain management. We consider heterogeneous depots and vehicles with different capacities. Given a set of heterogeneous depots, the number of vehicles in each depot, heterogeneous depot/vehicle capacities, and a set of spatially distributed customer locations, the MDCVRP attempts to identify routes of various vehicles satisfying the capacity constraints such as that all the customers are served. We model MDCVRP as a quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) problem, which minimizes the overall distance traveled by all the vehicles across all depots given the capacity constraints. Furthermore, we formulate a QUBO model for dynamic version of MDCVRP known as D-MDCVRP, which involves dynamic rerouting of vehicles to real-time customer requests. We discuss the problem complexity and a solution approach to solving MDCVRP and D-MDCVRP on quantum annealing hardware from D-Wave.
