We propose the design of an impedance matching acoustic bend in this article. The bending structure is composed of sub-wavelength unit cells with perforated plates and side pipes, whose mass density and bulk modulus can be tuned simultaneously. So the refraction index and the impedance of the acoustic bend can be modulated simultaneously to guarantee both the bending effect and the high transmission. The simulation results of sound pressure field distribution show that the bending effect of the impedance matching acoustic bend is very good. Transmission spectra of the impedance matching acoustic bend and the acoustic bend composed of perforated plates only are both calculated for comparison. The results indicate that the impedance matching acoustic bend is successful in improving the impedance ratio and increasing the transmission obviously.

In this paper, we design, fabricate and experimentally characterize a broadband acoustic right-angle bend device in air. Perforated panels with various hole-sizes are used to construct the bend structure. Both the simulated and the experimental resul ts verify that acoustic beam can be rotated effectively through the acoustic bend in a wide frequency range. This model may have potential applications in some areas such as sound absorption and acoustic detection in pipeline.
We optimize the performance of an elastic actuator consisting of an active core in a host which performs mechanical work on a load. The system, initially with localized elastic energy in the active component, relaxes and distributes energy to the res t of the system. Using the linearized Mooney-Rivlin hyperelastic model in a cylindrical geometry and assuming the system to be overdamped, we show that the value of the Youngs modulus of the impedance matching host which maximizes the energy transfer from the active component to the load is the geometric mean of Youngs moduli of the active component and the elastic load. This is similar to the classic results for impedance matching for maximizing the transmittance of light propagating through dielectric media.
In this paper propagation properties of a parallel-plate waveguide with tunable artificial impedance surfaces as sidewalls are studied both analytically and numerically. The impedance surfaces comprise an array of patches over a dielectric slab with embedded metallic vias. The tunability of surfaces is achieved with varactors. Simple design equations for tunable artificial impedance surfaces as well as dispersion equations for the TE and TM modes are presented. The propagation properties are studied in three different regimes: a multi-mode waveguide, a single-mode waveguide, and below-cutoff waveguide. The analytical results are verified with numerical simulations.

Experiments with acoustic waves guided along the mechanically free surface of an unconsolidated granular packed structure provide information on the elasticity of granular media at very low pressures that are naturally controlled by the gravitational acceleration and the depth beneath the surface. Comparison of the determined dispersion relations for guided surface acoustic modes with a theoretical model reveals the dependencies of the elastic moduli of the granular medium on pressure. The experiments confirm recent theoretical predictions that relaxation of the disordered granular packing through non-affine motion leads to a peculiar scaling of shear rigidity with pressure near the jamming transition corresponding to zero pressure. Unexpectedly, and in disagreement with the most of the available theories, the bulk modulus depends on pressure in a very similar way to the shear modulus.
The goal of this paper is to present a previously published work [1] in an errorless form. The work has studied the scattering of electromagnetic plane wave by an impedance strip placed in homogeneous isotropic chiral medium using Kobayashi Potential (KP) method; that has been an important, valuable and attractive investigation in the electromagnetic scattering, especially in KP method. Unfortunately, the study has some basic errors that prevent interesting readers from understanding the investigation. Finally, the formulation of this paper is validated by [2].
