We investigate the temperature dependence of photon coherence properties through two photon interference (TPI) measurements from a single QD under resonant excitation. We show that the loss of indistinguishability is only related to the electron-phonon coupling without being affected by spectral diffusion. Through these measurements, and a complementary microscopic theory, we identify two independent separate decoherence processes each associated to phonons. Below 10K, we find that the relaxation of the vibrational lattice is the dominant contribution to the loss of TPI visibility. This process is non-Markovian in nature, and corresponds to real phonon transitions resulting in a broad phonon sideband in the QD emission spectra. Above 10K, virtual phonon transitions to higher lying excited states in the QD become the dominant dephasing mechanism, this leads to broadening of the zero phonon line, and a corresponding rapid decay in the visibility. The microscopic theory we develop provides analytic expressions for the dephasing rates for both virtual phonon scattering and non-Markovian lattice relaxation.

We employ active feedback to stabilize the frequency of single photons emitted by two separate quantum dots to an atomic standard. The transmission of a single, rubidium-based Faraday filter serves as the error signal for frequency stabilization to l ess than 1.5% of the emission linewidth. Long-term stability is demonstrated by Hong-Ou-Mandel interference between photons from the two quantum dots. The observed visibility of $V_{mathrm{lock}}=(41 pm 5)$% is limited only by internal dephasing of the dots. Our approach facilitates quantum networks with indistinguishable photons from distributed emitters.
We demonstrate and characterize interference between discrete photons emitted by two separate semiconductor quantum dot states in different samples excited by a pulsed laser. Their energies are tuned into resonance using strain. The photons have a to tal coalescence probability of 18.1% and the coincidence rate is below the classical limit. Post-selection of coincidences within a narrow time window increases the coalescence probability to 47%. The probabilities are reduced from unity because of dephasing and the postselection value is also reduced by the detector time response.

We present experimental and theoretical study of single semiconductor quantum dots excited by two non-degenerate, resonantly tuned variably polarized lasers. The first laser is tuned to excitonic resonances. Depending on its polarization it photogene rates a coherent single exciton state. The second laser is tuned to biexciton resonances. By scanning the energy of the second laser for various polarizations of the two lasers, while monitoring the emission from the biexciton and exciton spectral lines, we map the biexciton photoluminescence excitation spectra. The resonances rich spectra of the second photon absorption are analyzed and fully understood in terms of a many carrier theoretical model which takes into account the direct and exchange Coulomb interactions between the quantum confined carriers.

To describe the interaction of molecular vibrations with electrons at a quantum dot contacted to metallic leads, we extend an analytical approach that we previously developed for the many-polaron problem. Our scheme is based on an incomplete variatio nal Lang-Firsov transformation, combined with a perturbative calculation of the electron-phonon self-energy in the framework of generalised Matsubara functions. This allows us to describe the system at weak to strong coupling and intermediate to large phonon frequencies. We present results for the quantum dot spectral function and for the kinetic coefficient that characterises the electron transport through the dot. With these results we critically examine the strengths and limitations of our approach, and discuss the properties of the molecular quantum dot in the context of polaron physics. We place particular emphasis on the importance of corrections to the concept of an antiadiabatic dot polaron suggested by the complete Lang-Firsov transformation.
We show unusual cooperative two-photon resonance between two-modes of field inside a photonic crystal cavity. The two-photon resonance occurs when two off resonant quantum dots emit one photon in each cavity mode and de-excite simultaneously. In the presence of phonon coupling the conditions for two-photon resonance change significantly. Using such two-photon two-mode interaction we propose to generate entangled state of two qutrits. The basis of a qutrit are formed by the state of the cavity mode containing $0$, $1$ and $2$ photons. We also discuss effect of phonon coupling on negativity of the generated entangled state.
