We investigate theoretically thermal and electrical conductances for the system consisting of a quantum dot (QD) connected both to a pair of Majorana fermions residing the edges of a Kitaev wire and two metallic leads. We demonstrate that both quantities reveal pronounced resonances, whose positions can be controlled by tuning of an asymmetry of the couplings of the QD and a pair of MFs. Similar behavior is revealed for the thermopower, Wiedemann-Franz law and dimensionless thermoelectric figure of merit. The considered geometry can thus be used as a tuner of heat and charge transport assisted by MFs.

We analyse the full counting statistics of charge transfer through a Majorana bound state coupled to an STM tip and show how they can be used for an unambiguous identification of the bound state at the end of the wire. Additionally, we show how to ge nerate Majorana bound states in a simple setup involving a ferromagnetic wire on a superconducting substrate.
Hydrodynamic behavior in electronic systems is commonly accepted to be associated with extremely clean samples such that electron-electron collisions dominate and total momentum is conserved. Contrary to this, we show that in monolayer graphene the p resence of disorder is essential to enable an unconventional hydrodynamic regime which exists near the charge neutrality point and is characterized by a large enhancement of the Wiedemann-Franz ratio. Although the enhancement becomes more pronounced with decreasing disorder, the very possibility of observing the effect depends crucially on the presence of disorder. We calculate the maximum extrinsic carrier density $n_c$ below which the effect becomes manifest, and show that $n_c$ vanishes in the limit of zero disorder. For $n>n_c$ we predict that the Wiedemann-Franz ratio actually decreases with decreasing disorder. We complete our analysis by presenting a transparent picture of the physical processes that are responsible for the crossover from conventional to disorder-enabled hydrodynamics. Recent experiments on monolayer graphene are discussed and shown to be consistent with this picture.

The non-Abelian braiding of Majorana fermions is one of the most promising operations providing a key building block for the realization of topological quantum computation. Recently, the chiral Majorana fermions were observed in a hybrid junction btw een a quantum anomalous Hall insulator and an s-wave superconductor. Here we show that if a quantum dot or Majorana zero mode couples to the chiral Majorana fermions, the resulting resonant exchange of chiral Majorana fermions can lead to the non-Abelian braiding. Remarkably, any operation in the braid group can be achieved by this scheme. We further propose electrical transport experiments to observe the braiding of four chiral Majorana fermions and demonstrate the non-Abelian braiding statistics in four-terminal devices of the hybrid junctions. Both a conductance peak due to the braiding and the braiding-order dependent conductance are predicted. These findings pave a way to perform any braiding operation of chiral Majorana fermions by electrically controllable quantum dots.
Motivated by recent experiments searching for Majorana fermions (MFs) in hybrid semiconducting-superconducting nanostructures, we consider a realistic tight-binding model and analyze its transport behavior numerically. In particular, we take into acc ount the presence of a superconducting contact, used in real experiments to extract the current, which is usually not included in theoretical calculations. We show that important features emerge that are absent in simpler models, such as the shift in energy of the proximity gap signal, and the enhanced visibility of the topological gap for increased spin-orbit interaction. We find oscillations of the zero bias peak as a function of the magnetic field and study them analytically. We argue that many of the experimentally observed features hint at an actual spin-orbit interaction larger than the one typically assumed. However, even taking into account all the known ingredients of the experiments and exploring many parameter regimes for MFs, we are not able to reach full agreement with the reported data. Thus, a different physical origin for the observed zero-bias peak cannot be excluded.
Multiple zero-energy Majorana fermions (MFs) with spatially overlapping wave functions can survive only if their splitting is prevented by an underlying symmetry. Here we show that, in quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) time reversal invariant topological s uperconductors (class DIII), a realistic model for superconducting lithium molybdenum purple bronze and certain families of organic superconductors, multiple Majorana-Kramers pairs with strongly overlapping wave functions persist at zero energy even in the absence of an easily identifiable symmetry. We find that similar results hold in the case of Q1D semiconductor-superconductor heterostructures (class D) with transverse hopping t_{perp} much smaller than longitudinal hopping t_x. Our results, explained in terms of special properties of the Hamiltonian and wave functions, underscore the importance of hidden accidental symmetries in topological superconductors.
