The quadratic form of the isobaric multiplet mass equation (IMME), which was originally suggested by Wigner and has been generally regarded as valid, is seriously questioned by recent high-precision nuclear mass measurements. The usual resolution to this problem is to add empirically the cubic and quartic $T_z$-terms to characterize the deviations from the IMME, but finding the origin of these terms remains an unsolved difficulty. Based on a strategy beyond the Wigners first-order perturbation, we derive explicitly the cubic and quartic $T_z$-terms. These terms are shown to be generated by the effective charge-symmetry breaking and charge-independent breaking interactions in nuclear medium combined with the Coulomb polarization effect. Calculations for the $sd$- and lower $fp$-shells explore a systematical emergence of the cubic $T_z$-term, suggesting a general deviation from the original IMME. Intriguingly, the magnitude of the deviation exhibits an oscillation-like behavior with mass number, modulated by the shell effect.
We study the a, b and c coefficients of the isobaric-multiplet mass equation using a macroscopic-microscopic approach developed by P. Moeller and his collaborators in ADNDT 59, 185 (1995) and ADNDT 109-110, 1 (2016). We show that already the macrosco
Masses of $^{52}$Co, $^{52}$Co$^m$, $^{52}$Fe, $^{52}$Fe$^m$, and $^{52}$Mn have been measured with the JYFLTRAP double Penning trap mass spectrometer. Of these, $^{52}$Co and $^{52}$Co$^m$ have been experimentally determined for the first time and f
Using the Penning trap mass spectrometer TITAN, we performed the first direct mass measurements of 20,21Mg, isotopes that are the most proton-rich members of the A = 20 and A = 21 isospin multiplets. These measurements were possible through the use o
The observed mass excesses of analog nuclear states with the same mass number $A$ and isospin $T$ can be used to test the isobaric multiplet mass equation (IMME), which has, in most cases, been validated to a high degree of precision. A recent measur
If the mass excess of neutron-deficient nuclei and their neutron-rich mirror partners are both known, it can be shown that deviations of the Isobaric Mass Multiplet Equation (IMME) in the form of a cubic term can be probed. Such a cubic term was prob
