Forest fire models may be interpreted as a simple model for earthquake occurrence by translating trees and fire into stressed segments of a fault and their rupture, respectively. Here we adopt a twodimensional forest-fire model in continuous time, and focus on the temporal changes of seismicity and the b-value. We find the b-value change and seismic quiescence prior to large earthquakes by stacking many sequences towards large earthquakes. As the magnitude-frequency relation in this model is directly related to the cluster-size distribution, decrease of the b-value can be explained in terms of the change in the cluster-size distribution. Decrease of the b-value means that small clusters of stressed sites aggregate into a larger cluster. Seismic quiescence may be attributed to the decrease of stressed sites that do not belong to percolated clusters.

We base our study on the statistical analysis of the Rigan earthquake 2010 December 20, which consists of estimating the earthquake network by means of virtual seismometer technique, and also considering the avalanche-type dynamics on top of this com plex network. The virtual seismometer complex network shows power-law degree distribution with the exponent $gamma=2.3pm 0.2$. Our findings show that the seismic activity is strongly intermittent, and have a textit{cyclic shape} as is seen in the natural situations, which is main finding of this study. The branching ratio inside and between avalanches reveal that the system is at (or more precisely close to) the critical point with power-law behavior for the distribution function of the size and the mass and the duration of the avalanches, and with some scaling relations between these quantities. The critical exponent of the size of avalanches is $tau_S=1.45pm 0.02$. We find a considerable correlation between the dynamical Green function and the nodes centralities.
Achieving desirable receiver sampling in ocean bottom acquisition is often not possible because of cost considerations. Assuming adequate source sampling is available, which is achievable by virtue of reciprocity and the use of modern randomized (sim ultaneous-source) marine acquisition technology, we are in a position to train convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to bring the receiver sampling to the same spatial grid as the dense source sampling. To accomplish this task, we form training pairs consisting of densely sampled data and artificially subsampled data using a reciprocity argument and the assumption that the source-site sampling is dense. While this approach has successfully been used on the recovery monochromatic frequency slices, its application in practice calls for wavefield reconstruction of time-domain data. Despite having the option to parallelize, the overall costs of this approach can become prohibitive if we decide to carry out the training and recovery independently for each frequency. Because different frequency slices share information, we propose the use the method of transfer training to make our approach computationally more efficient by warm starting the training with CNN weights obtained from a neighboring frequency slices. If the two neighboring frequency slices share information, we would expect the training to improve and converge faster. Our aim is to prove this principle by carrying a series of carefully selected experiments on a relatively large-scale five-dimensional data synthetic data volume associated with wide-azimuth 3D ocean bottom node acquisition. From these experiments, we observe that by transfer training we are able t significantly speedup in the training, specially at relatively higher frequencies where consecutive frequency slices are more correlated.
Moment tensor inversion is conducted to characterize the source properties of the September 3, M6.3, the September 3, M4.6, and the September 23, M3.4 seismic events occurred in 2017 in the nuclear test site of DPRK. To overcome the difficulties in t he comparison, the inversion uses the same stations, the same structural model, the same algorithm, and nearly the same filters in the processing of waveforms. It is shown that the M6.3 event is with predominant explosion component, the M4.6 event is with predominant implosion component, while the M3.4 event is with a predominant double couple component (~74%) and a secondary explosion component (~25%). The three seismic events are with a similar centroid depth. The double couple component of the M3.4 event shows a normal fault striking northeastward.

We present a method for locating the seismic event epicenters without assuming an Earth model of the seismic velocity structure, based on the linear relationship between $log R$ and $log t$ (where $R$ is the radius of spherical P wave propagated outw ards from the hypocenter, $t$ is the travle-time of the P wave). This relationship is derived from the dimensional analysis and a lot of theoretical or real seismic data, in which the earthquake can be considered to be a point source. Application to 1209 events occurred from 2014 to 2017 in the IASPEI Ground Truth (GT) reference events list shows that our method can locate the correct seismic event epicenters in a simple way. $sim 97.2$ % of seismic epicenters are located with both longitude and latitude errors $in[-0.1^circ, +0.1^circ]$. This ratio can increase if with a finer search grid. As a direct and global-search location, this method may be useful in obtaining the earthquake epicenters occurred in the areas where the seismic velocity structure is poorly known, the starting points or the constraints for other location methods.

It is found that a large deviation function for frequency of events of size not equal to the system size in the one dimensional forest-fire model with a single ignition site at an edge is independent of the system size, by using an exact decompositio n of the modified transition matrix of a master equation. An exchange in the largest eigenvalue of the modified transition matrix may not occur in the model.
