We study the unitary time evolution of antiferromagnetic order in the Hubbard model after a quench starting from the perfect Neel state. In this setup, which is well suited for experiments with cold atoms, one can distinguish fundamentally different pathways for melting of long-range order at weak and strong interaction. In the Mott insulating regime, melting of long-range order occurs due to the ultra-fast transfer of energy from charge excitations to the spin background, while local magnetic moments and their exchange coupling persist during the process. The latter can be demonstrated by a local spin-precession experiment. At weak interaction, local moments decay along with the long-range order. The dynamics is governed by residual quasiparticles, which are reflected in oscillations of the off-diagonal components of the momentum distribution. Such oscillations provide an alternative route to study the prethermalization phenomenon and its influence on the dynamics away from the integrable (noninteracting) limit. The Hubbard model is solved within nonequilibrium dynamical mean-field theory, using the density matrix-renormalization group as an impurity solver.

Motivated by recent experiments with ultra-cold quantum gases in optical lattices we study the decay of the staggered moment in the one-dimensional Fermi-Hubbard model starting from a perfect Neel state using exact diagonalization and the iTEBD metho d. This extends previous work in which the same problem has been addressed for pure spin Hamiltonians. As a main result, we show that the relaxation dynamics of the double occupancy and of the staggered moment are different. The former is controlled by the nearest-neighbor tunneling rate while the latter is much slower and strongly dependent on the interaction strength, indicating that spin excitations are important. This difference in characteristic energy scales for the fast charge dynamics and the much slower spin dynamics is also reflected in the real-time evolution of nearest-neighbor density and spin correlations. A very interesting time dependence emerges in the von Neumann entropy, which at short times increases linearly with a slope proportional to the tunneling matrix element while the long-time growth of entanglement is controlled by spin excitations. Our predictions for the different relaxation dynamics of the staggered moment and the double occupancy should be observable in state-of-the art optical lattice experiments. We further compare time averages of the double occupancy to both the expectation values in the canonical and diagonal ensemble, which quantitatively disagree with each other on finite systems. We relate the question of thermalization to the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis.

One of the most straightforward ways to study thermal properties beyond linear response is to monitor the relaxation of an arbitrarily large left-right temperature gradient $T_L-T_R$. In one-dimensional systems which support ballistic thermal transpo rt, the local energy currents $langle j(t)rangle$ acquire a non-zero value at long times, and it was recently investigated whether or not this steady state fulfills a simple additive relation $langle j(ttoinfty)rangle=f(T_L)-f(T_R)$ in integrable models. In this paper, we probe the non-equilibrium dynamics of the Hubbard chain using density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) numerics. We show that the above form provides an effective description of thermal transport in this model; violations are below the finite-time accuracy of the DMRG. As a second setup, we study how an initially equilibrated system radiates into different non-thermal states (such as the vacuum).

We investigate melting of stripe phases in the overdoped regime x>0.3 of the two-dimensional t-t-U Hubbard model, using a spin rotation invariant form of the slave boson representation. We show that the spin and charge order disappear simultaneously, and discuss a mechanism stabilizing bond-centered and site-centered stripe structures.
Unidirectional (stripe) charge-density-wave order has now been established as a ubiquitous feature in the phase diagram of the cuprate high temperature (HT) superconductors, where it generally competes with superconductivity (SC). None-the-less, on t heoretical grounds it has been conjectured that stripe order (or other forms of optimal inhomogeneities) may play an essential positive role in the mechanism of HTSC. Here we report density matrix renormalization group studies of the Hubbard model on long 4 and 6 leg cylinders where the hopping matrix elements transverse to the long direction are periodically modulated - mimicing the effect of putative period-2 stripe order. We find even modest amplitude modulations can enhance the long-distance SC correlations by many orders of magnitude, and drive the system into a phase with a substantial spin gap and SC quasi-long-range-order with a Luttinger exponent, $K_{sc} sim 1$.
In strongly correlated multi-orbital systems, various ordered phases appear. In particular, the orbital order in iron-based superconductors attracts much attention since it is considered to be the origin of the nematic state. In order to clarify the essential condition for realizing orbital orders, we study simple two-orbital ($d_{xz}$, $d_{yz}$) Hubbard model. We find that the orbital order, which corresponds to the nematic order, appears due to the vertex corrections even in the two-orbital model. Thus, $d_{xy}$ orbital is not essential to realize the nematic orbital order. The obtained orbital order depends on the orbital dependence and the topology of fermi surfaces. We also find that another type of orbital order, which is rotated $45^circ$, appears in the heavily hole-doped case.
