In this paper we perform an asymptotic analysis for two different vanishing viscosity coefficients occurring in a phase field system of Cahn-Hilliard type that was recently introduced in order to approximate a tumor growth model. In particular, we extend some recent results obtained in the preprint arXiv:1401.5943, letting the two positive viscosity parameters tend to zero independently from each other and weakening the conditions on the initial data in such a way as to maintain the nonlinearities of the PDE system as general as possible. Finally, under proper growth conditions on the interaction potential, we prove an error estimate leading also to the uniqueness result for the limit system.

We consider a model describing the evolution of a tumor inside a host tissue in terms of the parameters $varphi_p$, $varphi_d$ (proliferating and dead cells, respectively), $u$ (cell velocity) and $n$ (nutrient concentration). The variables $varphi_p $, $varphi_d$ satisfy a Cahn-Hilliard type system with nonzero forcing term (implying that their spatial means are not conserved in time), whereas $u$ obeys a form of the Darcy law and $n$ satisfies a quasistatic diffusion equation. The main novelty of the present work stands in the fact that we are able to consider a configuration potential of singular type implying that the concentration vector $(varphi_p,varphi_d)$ is constrained to remain in the range of physically admissible values. On the other hand, in view of the presence of nonzero forcing terms, this choice gives rise to a number of mathematical difficulties, especially related to the control of the mean values of $varphi_p$ and $varphi_d$. For the resulting mathematical problem, by imposing suitable initial-boundary conditions, our main result concerns the existence of weak solutions in a proper regularity class.
We analyze a fully discrete finite element numerical scheme for the Cahn-Hilliard-Stokes-Darcy system that models two-phase flows in coupled free flow and porous media. To avoid a well-known difficulty associated with the coupling between the Cahn-Hi lliard equation and the fluid motion, we make use of the operator-splitting in the numerical scheme, so that these two solvers are decoupled, which in turn would greatly improve the computational efficiency. The unique solvability and the energy stability have been proved in~cite{CHW2017}. In this work, we carry out a detailed convergence analysis and error estimate for the fully discrete finite element scheme, so that the optimal rate convergence order is established in the energy norm, i.e.,, in the $ell^infty (0, T; H^1) cap ell^2 (0, T; H^2)$ norm for the phase variables, as well as in the $ell^infty (0, T; H^1) cap ell^2 (0, T; H^2)$ norm for the velocity variable. Such an energy norm error estimate leads to a cancellation of a nonlinear error term associated with the convection part, which turns out to be a key step to pass through the analysis. In addition, a discrete $ell^2 (0;T; H^3)$ bound of the numerical solution for the phase variables plays an important role in the error estimate, which is accomplished via a discrete version of Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality in the finite element setting.
We consider a diffuse interface model for phase separation of an isothermal incompressible binary fluid in a Brinkman porous medium. The coupled system consists of a convective Cahn-Hilliard equation for the phase field $phi$, i.e., the difference of the (relative) concentrations of the two phases, coupled with a modified Darcy equation proposed by H.C. Brinkman in 1947 for the fluid velocity $mathbf{u}$. This equation incorporates a diffuse interface surface force proportional to $phi abla mu$, where $mu$ is the so-called chemical potential. We analyze the well-posedness of the resulting Cahn-Hilliard-Brinkman (CHB) system for $(phi, mathbf{u})$. Then we establish the existence of a global attractor and the convergence of a given (weak) solution to a single equilibrium via {L}ojasiewicz-Simon inequality. Furthermore, we study the behavior of the solutions as the viscosity goes to zero, that is, when the CHB system approaches the Cahn-Hilliard-Hele-Shaw (CHHS) system. We first prove the existence of a weak solution to the CHHS system as limit of CHB solutions. Then, in dimension two, we estimate the difference of the solutions to CHB and CHHS systems in terms of the viscosity constant appearing in CHB.
The motion of two contiguous incompressible and viscous fluids is described within the diffuse interface theory by the so-called Model H. The system consists of the Navier-Stokes equations, which are coupled with the Cahn-Hilliard equation associated to the Ginzburg-Landau free energy with physically relevant logarithmic potential. This model is studied in bounded smooth domain in R^d, d=2 and d=3, and is supplemented with a no-slip condition for the velocity, homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions for the order parameter and the chemical potential, and suitable initial conditions. We study uniqueness and regularity of weak and strong solutions. In a two-dimensional domain, we show the uniqueness of weak solutions and the existence and uniqueness of global strong solutions originating from an initial velocity u_0 in V, namely u_0 in H_0^1 such that div u_0=0. In addition, we prove further regularity properties and the validity of the instantaneous separation property. In a three-dimensional domain, we show the existence and uniqueness of local strong solutions with initial velocity u_0 in V.
In this paper we discuss a family of viscous Cahn-Hilliard equations with a non-smooth viscosity term. This system may be viewed as an approximation of a forward-backward parabolic equation. The resulting problem is highly nonlinear, coupling in the same equation two nonlinearities with the diffusion term. In particular, we prove existence of solutions for the related initial and boundary value problem. Under suitable assumptions, we also state uniqueness and continuous dependence on data.
