We asymptotically derive a non-linear Langevin-like equation with non-Gaussian white noise for a wide class of stochastic systems associated with multiple stochastic environments, by developing the expansion method in our previous paper [K. Kanazawa et al., arXiv: 1407.5267 (2014)]. We further obtain a full-order asymptotic formula of the steady distribution function in terms of a large friction coefficient for a non-Gaussian Langevin equation with an arbitrary non-linear frictional force. The first-order truncation of our formula leads to the independent-kick model and the higher-order correction terms directly correspond to the multiple-kicks effect during relaxation. We introduce a diagrammatic representation to illustrate the physical meaning of the high-order correction terms. As a demonstration, we apply our formula to a granular motor under Coulombic friction and get good agreement with our numerical simulations.

We discuss the use of a Langevin equation with a colored (correlated) noise to perform constant-temperature molecular dynamics simulations. Since the equations of motion are linear in nature, it is easy to predict the response of a Hamiltonian system to such a thermostat and to tune at will the relaxation time of modes of different frequency. This allows one to optimize the time needed to thermalize the system and generate independent configurations. We show how this frequency-dependent response can be exploited to control the temperature of Car-Parrinello-like dynamics, keeping at low temperature the electronic degrees of freedom, without affecting the adiabatic separation from the vibrations of the ions.
The multi-dimensional non-linear Langevin equation with multiplicative Gaussian white noises in Itos sense is made covariant with respect to non-linear transform of variables. The formalism involves no metric or affine connection, works for systems w ith or without detailed balance, and is substantially simpler than previous theories. Its relation with deterministic theory is clarified. The unitary limit and Hermitian limit of the theory are examined. Some implications on the choices of stochastic calculus are also discussed.
For the Langevin model of the dynamics of a Brownian particle with perturbations orthogonal to its current velocity, in a regime when the particle velocity modulus becomes constant, an equation for the characteristic function $psi (t,lambda )=Mleft[e xp (lambda ,x(t))/V={rm v}(0)right]$ of the position $x(t)$ of the Brownian particle. The obtained results confirm the conclusion that the model of the dynamics of a Brownian particle, which constructed on the basis of an unconventional physical interpretation of the Langevin equations, i. e. stochastic equations with orthogonal influences, leads to the interpretation of an ensemble of Brownian particles as a system with wave properties. These results are consistent with the previously obtained conclusions that, with a certain agreement of the coefficients in the original stochastic equation, for small random influences and friction, the Langevin equations lead to a description of the probability density of the position of a particle based on wave equations. For large random influences and friction, the probability density is a solution to the diffusion equation, with a diffusion coefficient that is lower than in the classical diffusion model.
We introduce a software generator for a class of emph{colored} (self-correlated) and emph{non-Gaussian} noise, whose statistics and spectrum depend upon only two parameters, $q$ and $tau$. Inspired by Tsallis nonextensive formulation of statistical p hysics, this so-called $q$-distribution is a handy source of self-correlated noise for a large variety of applications. The $q$-noise---which tends smoothly for $q=1$ to Ornstein--Uhlenbeck noise with autocorrelation $tau$---is generated via a stochastic differential equation, using the Heun method (a second order Runge--Kutta type integration scheme). The algorithm is implemented as a stand-alone library in texttt{c++}, available as open source in the texttt{Github} repository. The noises statistics can be chosen at will, by varying only parameter $q$: it has compact support for $q<1$ (sub-Gaussian regime) and finite variance up to $q=5/3$ (supra-Gaussian regime). Once $q$ has been fixed, the noises autocorrelation can be tuned up independently by means of parameter $tau$. This software provides a tool for modeling a large variety of real-world noise types, and is suitable to study the effects of correlation and deviations from the normal distribution in systems of stochastic differential equations which may be relevant for a wide variety of technological applications, as well as for the understanding of situations of biological interest. Applications illustrating how the noise statistics affects the response of a variety of nonlinear systems are briefly discussed. In many of these examples, the systems response turns out to be optimal for some $q eq1$.
The stochastic solution with Gaussian stationary increments is establihsed for the symmetric space-time fractional diffusion equation when $0 < beta < alpha le 2$, where $0 < beta le 1$ and $0 < alpha le 2$ are the fractional derivation orders in tim e and space, respectively. This solution is provided by imposing the identity between two probability density functions resulting (i) from a new integral representation formula of the fundamental solution of the symmetric space-time fractional diffusion equation and (ii) from the product of two independent random variables. This is an alternative method with respect to previous approaches such as the scaling limit of the continuos time random walk, the parametric subordination and the subordinated Langevin equation. A new integral representation formula for the fundamental solution of the space-time fractional diffusion equation is firstly derived. It is then shown that, in the symmetric case, a stochastic solution can be obtained by a Gaussian process with stationary increments and with a random wideness scale variable distributed according to an arrangement of two extremal Levy stable densities. This stochastic solution is self-similar with stationary increments and uniquely defined in a statistical sense by the mean and the covariance structure. Numerical simulations are carried out by choosing as Gaussian process the fractional Brownian motion. Sample paths and probability densities functions are shown to be in agreement with the fundamental solution of the symmetric space-time fractional diffusion equation.
