The pentaquark $Theta^+$ has been searched for via the $pi^-p to K^-X$ reaction with beam momenta of 1.92 and 2.01 GeV/$c$ at J-PARC. A missing mass resolution of 2 MeV (FWHM) was achieved but no sharp peak structure was observed. The upper limits on the production cross section averaged over the scattering angle from 2$^{circ}$ to 15$^{circ}$ in the laboratory frame were found to be less than 0.28 $mu$b/sr at the 90% confidence level for both the 1.92- and 2.01-GeV/$c$ data. The systematic uncertainty of the upper limits was controlled within 10%. Constraints on the $Theta^+$ decay width were also evaluated with a theoretical calculation using effective Lagrangian. The present result implies that the width should be less than 0.36 and 1.9 MeV for the spin-parity of $1/2^+$ and $1/2^-$, respectively.

The $Theta^+$ pentaquark baryon was searched for via the $pi^-pto K^-X$ reaction in a missing-mass resolution of 1.4 MeV/$c^2$(FWHM) at J-PARC. $pi^-$ meson beams were incident on the liquid hydrogen target with the beam momentum of 1.92 GeV/$c$. No peak structure corresponding to the $Theta^+$ mass was observed. The upper limit of the production cross section averaged over the scattering angle of 2$^{circ}$ to 15$^{circ}$ in the laboratory frame was obtained to be 0.26 $mu$b/sr in the mass region of 1.51$-$1.55 GeV/$c^2$.The upper limit of the $Theta^+$ decay width using the effective Lagrangian approach was obtained to be 0.72 MeV/$c^2$ and 3.1 MeV/$c^2$ for $J^P_{Theta}=1/2^+$ and $J^P_{Theta}=1/2^-$, respectively.

With an appropriate hard scale, exclusive hadronic processes could provide novel information of the internal quark-gluon configurations of hadrons. The availability of 10-20 GeV secondary meson beam in the coming high-momentum beam line of Hadron Hal l at J-PARC offers an unique opportunity to carry out the measurements of the exclusive hard processes. We address this interesting approach by two possibilities: (a) $pi^- p to K^0 Lambda(1405)$ for the constituent quark structure of $Lambda(1405)$, and (b) exclusive pion-induced Drell-Yan process $pi^- p to gamma^* n to l^+ l^- n$ for the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of nucleons. Realization of such measurements at J-PARC will open up a new way of accessing the internal quark structure of exotic hadrons and also the nucleon GPDs based on a solid theoretical foundation of perturbative QCD.
The earlier search at HERMES for narrow baryon states excited in quasi-real photoproduction, decaying through the channel $pK_S^0rightarrow ppi^+pi^-$, has been extended with improved decay-particle reconstruction, more advanced particle identificati on, and increased event samples. The structure observed earlier at an invariant mass of 1528 MeV shifts to 1522 MeV and the statistical significance drops to about 2$sigma$ for data taken with a deuterium target. The number of events above background is $68_{-31}^{+98}text{(stat)}pm13text{(sys)}$. No such structure is observed in the hydrogen data set.

On April 2015, the J-PARC E56 (JSNS2: J-PARC Sterile Neutrino Search using neutrinos from J-PARC Spallation Neutron Source) experiment officially obtained stage-1 approval from J-PARC. We have since started to perform liquid scintillator R&D for impr oving energy resolution and fast neutron rejection. Also, we are studying Avalanche Photo-Diodes (SiPM) inside the liquid scintillator. In addition to the R&D work, a background measurement for the proton beam bunch timing using a small liquid scintillator volume was planned, and the safety discussions for the measurement have been done. This report describes the status of the R&D work and the background measurements, in addition to the milestones required before stage-2 approval.
We have searched for Theta+(1.54) -> K0,p decays using data from the 1999 run of the HyperCP experiment at Fermilab. We see no evidence for a narrow peak in the K0,p mass distribution near 1.54 GeV/c among 106,000 K0,p candidates, and obtain an upper limit for the fraction of Theta+(1.54) to K0,p candidates of <0.3% at 90% confidence.
