In a recent publication [M. B. Stone et al., New Journal of Physics 9, 31 (2007)] a Renormalized Classical 2D (RC) phase has been reported in a quasi-two-dimensional quantum antiferromagnet PHCC. Its key signature is a sharp cusp-like feature in the magnetic susceptibility which appears below the critical field of magnetic ordering indicated by specific heat anomaly and emergence of a Bragg peak. Here we present experimental data which shows that regardless of experimental geometry, the specific heat and susceptibility anomalies in PHCC both coincide with the onset of true long range order. This leaves no room for any additional intermediate RC phase.

We report magnetization and specific heat measurements in the 2D frustrated spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet Cs2CuCl4 at temperatures down to 0.05 K and high magnetic fields up to 11.5 T applied along a, b and c-axes. The low-field susceptibility chi (T) M/B shows a broad maximum around 2.8 K characteristic of short-range antiferromagnetic correlations and the overall temperature dependence is well described by high temperature series expansion calculations for the partially frustrated triangular lattice with J=4.46 K and J/J=1/3. At much lower temperatures (< 0.4 K) and in in-plane field (along b and c-axes) several new intermediate-field ordered phases are observed in-between the low-field incommensurate spiral and the high-field saturated ferromagnetic state. The ground state energy extracted from the magnetization curve shows strong zero-point quantum fluctuations in the ground state at low and intermediate fields.
We consider the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a bilayer honeycomb lattice including interlayer frustration in the presence of an external magnetic field. In the vicinity of the saturation field, we map the low-energy states of this q uantum system onto the spatial configurations of hard hexagons on a honeycomb lattice. As a result, we can construct effective classical models (lattice-gas as well as Ising models) on the honeycomb lattice to calculate the properties of the frustrated quantum Heisenberg spin system in the low-temperature regime. We perform classical Monte Carlo simulations for a hard-hexagon model and adopt known results for an Ising model to discuss the finite-temperature order-disorder phase transition that is driven by a magnetic field at low temperatures. We also discuss an effective-model description around the ideal frustration case and find indications for a spin-flop like transition in the considered isotropic spin model.

We report measurements of magnetic quantum oscillations and specific heat at low temperatures across a field-induced antiferromagnetic quantum critical point (QCP)(B_{c0}approx50T) of the heavy-fermion metal CeRhIn_5. A sharp magnetic-field induced F ermi surface reconstruction is observed inside the antiferromagnetic phase. Our results demonstrate multiple classes of QCPs in the field-pressure phase diagram of this heavy-fermion metal, pointing to a universal description of QCPs. They also suggest that robust superconductivity is promoted by unconventional quantum criticality of a fluctuating Fermi surface.
To harness technological opportunities arising from optically controlled quantum many-body states a deeper theoretical understanding of driven-dissipative interacting systems and their nonequilibrium phase transitions is essential. Here we provide nu merical evidence for a dynamical phase transition in the nonequilibrium steady state of interacting magnons in the prototypical two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet with drive and dissipation. This nonthermal transition is characterized by a qualitative change in the magnon distribution, from subthermal at low drive to a generalized Bose-Einstein form including a nonvanishing condensate fraction at high drive. A finite-size analysis reveals static and dynamical critical scaling, with a discontinuous slope of the magnon number versus driving field strength and critical slowing down at the transition point. Implications for experiments on quantum materials and polariton condensates are discussed.
We present an investigation of the effect of randomizing exchange strengths in the $S=1/2$ square lattice quasi-two-dimensional quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet (QuinH)$_2$Cu(Cl$_{x}$Br$_{1-x}$)$_{4}cdot$2H$_2$O (QuinH$=$Quinolinium, C$_9$H$_8$N$^+ $), with $0leq x leq 1$. Pulsed-field magnetization measurements allow us to estimate an effective in-plane exchange strength $J$ in a regime where exchange fosters short-range order, while the temperature $T_{mathrm{N}}$ at which long range order (LRO) occurs is found using muon-spin relaxation, allowing us to construct a phase diagram for the series. We evaluate the effectiveness of disorder in suppressing $T_{mathrm{N}}$ and the ordered moment size and find an extended disordered phase in the region $0.4 lesssim x lesssim 0.8$ where no magnetic order occurs, driven by quantum effects of the exchange randomness.
