We present new constraints on the couplings of axions and more generic axion-like particles using data from the EDELWEISS-II experiment. The EDELWEISS experiment, located at the Underground Laboratory of Modane, primarily aims at the direct detection of WIMPs using germanium bolometers. It is also sensitive to the low-energy electron recoils that would be induced by solar or dark matter axions. Using a total exposure of up to 448 kg.d, we searched for axion-induced electron recoils down to 2.5 keV within four scenarios involving different hypotheses on the origin and couplings of axions. We set a 95% CL limit on the coupling to photons $g_{Agamma}<2.13times 10^{-9}$ GeV$^{-1}$ in a mass range not fully covered by axion helioscopes. We also constrain the coupling to electrons, $g_{Ae} < 2.56times 10^{-11}$, similar to the more indirect solar neutrino bound. Finally we place a limit on $g_{Ae}times g_{AN}^{rm eff}<4.70 times 10^{-17}$, where $g_{AN}^{rm eff}$ is the effective axion-nucleon coupling for $^{57}$Fe. Combining these results we fully exclude the mass range $0.91,{rm eV}<m_A<80$ keV for DFSZ axions and $5.73,{rm eV}<m_A<40$ keV for KSVZ axions.

The first searches for axions and axion-like particles with the Large Underground Xenon (LUX) experiment are presented. Under the assumption of an axio-electric interaction in xenon, the coupling constant between axions and electrons, gAe is tested, using data collected in 2013 with an exposure totalling 95 live-days $times$ 118 kg. A double-sided, profile likelihood ratio statistic test excludes gAe larger than 3.5 $times$ 10$^{-12}$ (90% C.L.) for solar axions. Assuming the DFSZ theoretical description, the upper limit in coupling corresponds to an upper limit on axion mass of 0.12 eV/c$^{2}$, while for the KSVZ description masses above 36.6 eV/c$^{2}$ are excluded. For galactic axion-like particles, values of gAe larger than 4.2 $times$ 10$^{-13}$ are excluded for particle masses in the range 1-16 keV/c$^{2}$. These are the most stringent constraints to date for these interactions.
We present the results of measurements demonstrating the efficiency of the EDELWEISS-III array of cryogenic germanium detectors for direct dark matter searches. The experimental setup and the FID (Fully Inter-Digitized) detector array is described, a s well as the efficiency of the double measurement of heat and ionization signals in background rejection. For the whole set of 24 FID detectors used for coincidence studies, the baseline resolutions for the fiducial ionization energy are mainly below 0.7 keV$_{ee}$ (FHWM) whereas the baseline resolutions for heat energies are mainly below 1.5 keV$_{ee}$ (FWHM). The response to nuclear recoils as well as the very good discrimination capability of the FID design has been measured with an AmBe source. The surface $beta$- and $alpha$-decay rejection power of $R_{rm surf} < 4 times 10^{-5}$ per $alpha$ at 90% C.L. has been determined with a $^{210}$Pb source, the rejection of bulk $gamma$-ray events has been demonstrated using $gamma$-calibrations with $^{133}$Ba sources leading to a value of $R_{gamma{rm -mis-fid}} < 2.5 times 10^{-6}$ at 90% C.L.. The current levels of natural radioactivity measured in the detector array are shown as the rate of single $gamma$ background. The fiducial volume fraction of the FID detectors has been measured to a weighted average value of $(74.6 pm 0.4)%$ using the cosmogenic activation of the $^{65}$Zn and $^{68,71}$Ge isotopes. The stability and uniformity of the detector response is also discussed. The achieved resolutions, thresholds and background levels of the upgraded EDELWEISS-III detectors in their setup are thus well suited to the direct search of WIMP dark matter over a large mass range.

The EDELWEISS-II experiment uses cryogenic heat-and-ionization detectors in order to detect the rare interactions from possible WIMP dark matter particles on Germanium nuclei. Recently, new-generation detectors with an interleaved electrode geometry were developped and validated, enabling an outstanding rejection of gamma-rays and surface interactions. We present here preliminary results of a one-year WIMP search carried out with ten of such detectors in the Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane. A sensitivity to the spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross-section of 5 times 10-8 pb was achieved using a 322 kg
Results are presented from a reanalysis of the entire five-tower data set acquired with the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS II) experiment at the Soudan Underground Laboratory, with an exposure of 969 kg-days. The analysis window was extended to a recoil energy of 150 keV, and an improved surface-event background-rejection cut was defined to increase the sensitivity of the experiment to the inelastic dark matter (iDM) model. Three dark matter candidates were found between 25 keV and 150 keV. The probability to observe three or more background events in this energy range is 11%. Because of the occurrence of these events the constraints on the iDM parameter space are slightly less stringent than those from our previous analysis, which used an energy window of 10-100 keV.

The status of the EDELWEISS experiment (underground dark matter search with heat-ionisation bolometers) is reviewed. Auspicious results achieved with a prototype 70 g Ge heat-ionisation detector under a 2 V reverse bias tension are discussed. Based o n gamma and neutron calibrations, a best-case rejection factor, over the 15-45 keV range, of 99.7 % for gammas, with an acceptance of 94 % for neutrons, is presented first. Some operational results of physical interest obtained under poor low radioactivity conditions follow. They include a raw event rate of around 30 events/day/kg/keV over the same energy range, and, after rejection of part of the background, lead to a conservative upper limit on the signal of approximately 1.6 events/day/kg/keV at a 90 % confidence level. Performance degrading surface effects of the detector are speculated upon; and planned upgrades are summarized.
