We report the superconductivity at enhanced temperature of 5.2 K in the polycrystalline sample of ZrTe3 and Ni intercalated ZrTe3. ZrTe3 is a Charge Density Wave (T = 63K) compound, which is known to superconduct only below 2K in single crystalline form. We discuss that the intergrain strains in the polycrystalline samples induces an intrinsic pressure and thus enhances the transition temperature. Fe intercalation of ZrTe3 kills both the charge density wave and superconducting states, gives rise to the magnetic ordering in the compound.

We report the occurrence of superconductivity in polycrystalline samples of ZrTe3 at 5.2 K temperature at ambient pressure. The superconducting state coexists with the charge density wave (CDW) phase, which sets in at 63K. The intercalation of Cu or Ag, does not have any bearing on the superconducting transition temperature but suppresses the CDW state. The feature of CDW anomaly in these compounds is clearly seen in the DC magnetization data. Resistivity data is analysed to estimate the relative loss of carriers and reduction in the nested Fermi surface area upon CDW formation in the ZrTe3 and the intercalated compounds.
The mechanism of emergent bulk superconductivity in transition metal intercalated ZrTe3 is investigated by studying the effect of Ni doping on the band structure and charge density wave (CDW). The study reports theoretical and experimental results in the range of Ni0.01ZrTe3 to Ni0.05ZrTe3. In the highest doped samples bulk superconductivity with Tc < TCDW is observed, while TCDW is strongly reduced. Relativistic ab-initio calculations reveal Ni incorporation occurs preferentially through intercalation in the van-der-Waals gap. Analysis of the structural and elec- tronic effects of intercalation, indicate buckling of the Te-sheets adjacent to the Ni site akin to a locally stabilised CDW-like lattice distortion. Experiments by low temperature x-ray diffraction, angle-resolved-photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) as well as temperature dependent resistivity reveal the nearly unchanged persistence of the CDW into the regime of bulk superconductivity. The CDW gap is found to be unchanged in its extent in momentum space, with the gap size also unchanged or possibly slightly reduced on Ni intercalation. Both experimental observations suggest that superconductivity coexists with the CDW in NixZrTe3.

We report the Ni-doping effect on magnetism and superconductivity (SC) in an Eu-containing 112-type system Eu(Fe$_{1-x}$Ni$_{x})$As$_{2}$ ($0leq xleq 0.15$) by the measurements of resistivity, magnetization, and specific heat. The undoped EuFeAs$_2$ undergoes a spin-density-wave (SDW) transition at $T_mathrm{SDW}sim$ 105 K in the Fe sublattice and a magnetic ordering at $T_mathrm{m}sim$ 40 K in the Eu sublattice. Complex Eu-spin magnetism is manifested by a spin-glass reentrance at $T_mathrm{SG}sim$ 15 K and an additional spin reorientation at $T_mathrm{SR}sim$ 7 K. With Ni doping, the SDW order is rapidly suppressed, and SC emerges in the Ni-doping range of 0.01 $leq xleq$ 0.1 where a maximum of the superconducting transition temperature $T_mathrm{c}^{mathrm{max}}=$ 17.6 K shows up at $x$ = 0.04. On the other hand, $T_mathrm{m}$ decreases very slowly, yet $T_mathrm{SG}$ and $T_mathrm{SR}$ hardly change with the Ni doping. The phase diagram has been established, which suggests a very weak coupling between SC and Eu spins. The complex Eu-spin magnetism is discussed in terms of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interactions mediated by the conduction electrons from both layers of FeAs and As surrounding Eu$^{2+}$ ions.

Iron is an important sheath material for fabrication of MgB2 wires. However, the effect of Fe doping on the superconducting properties of MgB2 remains controversial. In this work, we present results of nano-scale Fe particle doping in to MgB2. The Fe doping experiments were performed using both bulk and thin film form. It was found that Fe doping did not affect the lattice parameters of MgB2, as evidenced by the lack of change in the XRD peak positions for MgB2. Because of the high reactivity of nano-scale Fe particles, Fe doping is largely in the form of FeB at low doping level while Fe2B was detected at 10wt% doping by both XRD and TEM. There is no evidence for Fe substitution for Mg. The transition temperature decreased modestly with increasing Fe doping levels. The Jc(H) performance was severely depressed at above 3wt% doping level. The detrimental effect of nano-scale Fe doping on both Tc and Jc(H) is attributable to the grain decoupling as a result of magnetic scattering of Fe-containing dopants at grain boundaries.

Diamagnetic susceptibility measurements under high hydrostatic pressure (up to 1.03 GPa) were carried out on the newly discovered Fe-based superconductor LaO_{1-x}F_{x}FeAs(x=0.11). The transition temperature T_c, defined as the point at the maximum slope of superconducting transition, was enhanced almost linearly by hydrostatic pressure, yielding a dT_c/dP of about 1.2 K/GPa. Differential diamagnetic susceptibility curves indicate that the underlying superconducting state is complicated. It is suggested that pressure plays an important role on pushing low T_c superconducting phase toward the main (optimal) superconducting phase.
