In this work we consider the communication of information in the presence of a causal adversarial jammer. In the setting under study, a sender wishes to communicate a message to a receiver by transmitting a codeword $(x_1,...,x_n)$ bit-by-bit over a communication channel. The sender and the receiver do not share common randomness. The adversarial jammer can view the transmitted bits $x_i$ one at a time, and can change up to a $p$-fraction of them. However, the decisions of the jammer must be made in a causal manner. Namely, for each bit $x_i$ the jammers decision on whether to corrupt it or not must depend only on $x_j$ for $j leq i$. This is in contrast to the classical adversarial jamming situations in which the jammer has no knowledge of $(x_1,...,x_n)$, or knows $(x_1,...,x_n)$ completely. In this work, we present upper bounds (that hold under both the average and maximal probability of error criteria) on the capacity which hold for both deterministic and stochastic encoding schemes.

We consider the problem of communication over a channel with a causal jamming adversary subject to quadratic constraints. A sender Alice wishes to communicate a message to a receiver Bob by transmitting a real-valued length-$n$ codeword $mathbf{x}=x_ 1,...,x_n$ through a communication channel. Alice and Bob do not share common randomness. Knowing Alices encoding strategy, an adversarial jammer James chooses a real-valued length-n noise sequence $mathbf{s}=s_1,..,s_n$ in a causal manner, i.e., each $s_t (1<=t<=n)$ can only depend on $x_1,...,x_t$. Bob receives $mathbf{y}$, the sum of Alices transmission $mathbf{x}$ and James jamming vector $mathbf{s}$, and is required to reliably estimate Alices message from this sum. In addition, Alice and Jamess transmission powers are restricted by quadratic constraints $P>0$ and $N>0$. In this work, we characterize the channel capacity for such a channel as the limit superior of the optimal values of a series of optimizations. Upper and lower bounds on the optimal values are provided both analytically and numerically. Interestingly, unlike many communication problems, in this causal setting Alices optimal codebook may not have a uniform power allocation - for certain SNR, a codebook with a two-level uniform power allocation results in a strictly higher rate than a codebook with a uniform power allocation would.
There are now several works on the use of the additive inverse Gaussian noise (AIGN) model for the random transit time in molecular communication~(MC) channels. The randomness invariably causes inter-symbol interference (ISI) in MC, an issue largely ignored or simplified. In this paper we derive an upper bound and two lower bounds for MC based on amplitude shift keying (ASK) in presence of ISI. The Blahut-Arimoto algorithm~(BAA) is modified to find the input distribution of transmitted symbols to maximize the lower bounds. Our results show that over wide parameter values the bounds are close.
In this work, novel upper and lower bounds for the capacity of channels with arbitrary constraints on the support of the channel input symbols are derived. As an immediate practical application, the case of multiple-input multiple-output channels wit h amplitude constraints is considered. The bounds are shown to be within a constant gap if the channel matrix is invertible and are tight in the high amplitude regime for arbitrary channel matrices. Moreover, in the high amplitude regime, it is shown that the capacity scales linearly with the minimum between the number of transmit and receive antennas, similarly to the case of average power-constrained inputs.
We investigate the secure communications over correlated wiretap Rayleigh fading channels assuming the full channel state information (CSI) available. Based on the information theoretic formulation, we derive closed-form expressions for the average s ecrecy capacity and the outage probability. Simulation results confirm our analytical expressions.
Upper bounds on the maximum number of codewords in a binary code of a given length and minimum Hamming distance are considered. New bounds are derived by a combination of linear programming and counting arguments. Some of these bounds improve on the best known analytic bounds. Several new record bounds are obtained for codes with small lengths.
