We propose a stochastic process driven by memory effect with novel distributions including both exponential and leptokurtic heavy-tailed distributions. A class of distribution is analytically derived from the continuum limit of the discrete binary process with the renormalized auto-correlation and the closed form moment generating function is obtained, thus the cumulants are calculated and shown to be convergent. The other class of distributions are numerically investigated. The concoction of the two stochastic processes of the different signs of memory under regime switching mechanism does incarnate power-law decay behavior, which strongly implies that memory is the alternative origin of heavy-tail.

In this study, we construct two tests for the weights of the global minimum variance portfolio (GMVP) in a high-dimensional setting, namely, when the number of assets $p$ depends on the sample size $n$ such that $frac{p}{n}to c in (0,1)$ as $n$ tends to infinity. In the case of a singular covariance matrix with rank equal to $q$ we assume that $q/nto tilde{c}in(0, 1)$ as $ntoinfty$. The considered tests are based on the sample estimator and on the shrinkage estimator of the GMVP weights. We derive the asymptotic distributions of the test statistics under the null and alternative hypotheses. Moreover, we provide a simulation study where the power functions and the receiver operating characteristic curves of the proposed tests are compared with other existing approaches. We observe that the test based on the shrinkage estimator performs well even for values of $c$ close to one.
We test three common information criteria (IC) for selecting the order of a Hawkes process with an intensity kernel that can be expressed as a mixture of exponential terms. These processes find application in high-frequency financial data modelling. The information criteria are Akaikes information criterion (AIC), the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and the Hannan-Quinn criterion (HQ). Since we work with simulated data, we are able to measure the performance of model selection by the success rate of the IC in selecting the model that was used to generate the data. In particular, we are interested in the relation between correct model selection and underlying sample size. The analysis includes realistic sample sizes and parameter sets from recent literature where parameters were estimated using empirical financial intra-day data. We compare our results to theoretical predictions and similar empirical findings on the asymptotic distribution of model selection for consistent and inconsistent IC.
We investigate the tail behaviour of the steady state distribution of a stochastic recursion that generalises Lindleys recursion. This recursion arises in queuing systems with dependent interarrival and service times, and includes alternating service systems and carousel storage systems as special cases. We obtain precise tail asymptotics in three qualitatively different cases, and compare these with existing results for Lindleys recursion and for alternating service systems.
We derive consistent and asymptotically normal estimators for the drift and volatility parameters of the stochastic heat equation driven by an additive space-only white noise when the solution is sampled discretely in the physical domain. We consider both the full space and the bounded domain. We establish the exact spatial regularity of the solution, which in turn, using power-variation arguments, allows building the desired estimators. We show that naive approximations of the derivatives appearing in the power-variation based estimators may create nontrivial biases, which we compute explicitly. The proofs are rooted in Malliavin-Steins method.
