To probe manifestations of multiband superconductivity in oxypnictides, we measured the angular dependence of the magnetic torque $tau(theta)$ in the mixed state of LaO$_{0.9}$F$_{0.1}$FeAs single crystals as a function of temperature $T$ and magnetic fields $H$ up to 18 T. The paramagnetic contribution of the Fe ions is properly treated in order to extract the effective mass anisotropy parameter $gamma=(m_c/m_{ab})^{1/2}$ from $tau(theta)$. We show that $gamma$ depends strongly on both $T$ and $H$, reaching a maximum value of $sim$ 10 followed by a decrease towards values close to 1 as $T$ is lowered. The observed field dependencies of the London penetration depth $lambda_{ab}$ and $gamma$ suggest the onset of suppression of a superconducing gap at $H approx H_{c2}/3$.

To probe manifestations of multiband superconductivity in oxypnictides, we measured the angular dependence of magnetic torque $tau(theta)$ in the mixed state of SmO$_{0.8}$F$_{0.2}$FeAs single crystals as functions of temperature $T$ and high magneti c field $H$ up to 30 T. We show that the effective mass anisotropy parameter $gamma$ extracted from $tau(theta)$, can be greatly overestimated if the strong paramagnetism of Sm or Fe ions is not properly taken into account. The correctly extracted $gamma$ depends on both $T$ and $H$, saturating at $gamma simeq 9$ at lower temperatures. Neither the London penetration depth nor the superfluid density is affected by high fields fields up to the upper critical field. Our results indicate two strongly-coupled superconducting gaps of nearly equal magnitudes.

By using a two-step method, we successfully synthesized the iron based new superconductor LaFeAsO_{0.9}F_{0.1-delta}$. The resistive transition curves under different magnetic fields were measured, leading to the determination of the upper critical f ield Hc2(T) of this new superconductor. The value of Hc2 at zero temperature is estimated to be about 50 Tesla roughly. In addition, the Hall effect and magnetoresistance were measured in wide temperature region. A negative Hall coefficient R_H has been found, implying a dominant conduction mainly by electron-like charge carriers in this material. The charge carrier density determined at 100 K is about 9.8E20cm^{-3}, which is close to the cuprate superconductors. It is further found that the magnetoresistance does not follow Kohlers law. Meanwhile, the different temperature dependence behaviors of resistivity, Hall coefficient, and magnetoresistance have anomalous properties at about 230 K, which may be induced by some exotic scattering mechanism.

The superconducting penetration depth, $lambda(T)$, has been measured in RFeAsO$_{0.9}$F$_{0.1}$ (R=La,Nd) single crystals (R-1111). In Nd-1111, we find an upturn in $lambda(T)$ upon cooling and attribute it to the paramagnetism of the Nd ions, simil ar to the case of the electron-doped cuprate Nd-Ce-Cu-O. After the correction for paramagnetism, the London penetration depth variation is found to follow a power-law behavior, $Delta lambda_L(T)propto T^{2}$ at low temperatures. The same $T^2$ variation of $lambda(T)$ was found in non-magnetic La-1111 crystals. Analysis of the superfluid density and of penetration depth anisotropy over the full temperature range is consistent with two-gap superconductivity. Based on this and on our previous work, we conclude that both the RFeAsO (1111) and BaFe$_2$As$_2$ (122) families of pnictide superconductors exhibit unconventional two-gap superconductivity.
The electrical resistivity rho(T) and heat capacity C(T) on single crystals of SrNi2As2 and EuNi2As2 are reported. While there is no evidence for a structural transition in either compound, SrNi2As2 is found to be a bulk superconductor at T_c=0.62 K with a Sommerfeld coefficient of gamma= 8.7 mJ/mol K^2 and a small upper critical field H_{c2} sim 200 Oe. No superconductivity was found in EuNi2As2 above 0.4 K, but anomalies in rho and C reveal that magnetic order associated with the Eu^{2+} magnetic moments occurs at T_m = 14 K.
