A caged compound CeOs2Al10, crystallizing in the orthorhombic YbFe2Al10-type structure, undergoes a mysterious phase transition at T_0=29 K. We report the results of electron diffraction, magnetization, and magnetoresistance for single crystals. Superlattice reflections characterized by a wave vector q = (0, -2/3, 2/3) observed at 15 K indicate a structural modification in the ordered state. Activation-type behavior of the electrical resistivity along the three principal axes below 50 K suggests gap opening in the conduction band. The magnetic susceptibility chi = M/B is highly anisotropic, chi_a>chi_c>chi_b, all of which sharply decrease on cooling below T_0. Furthermore, a metamagnetic anomaly in the magnetization and a step in the magnetoresistance occur at B=6-8 T only when the magnetic field is applied parallel to the orthorhombic c axis. However, T_0 hardly changes under magnetic fields up to 14 T, irrespective of the field direction. By using these data, we present a B-T phase diagram and discuss several scenarios for the mysterious transition.
The effect of Ir substitution for Os in CeOs2Al10, with an unusually high Neel temperature of T~28.5K, has been studied by high-resolution neutron diffraction and magnetization measurements. A small amount of Ir (~ 8%) results in a pronounced change
We have studied the magnetization of CeOs2Al10 in high magnetic fields up to 55 T for H // a and constructed the magnetic phase diagram for H // a. The magnetization curve shows a concave H dependence below T_max sim40 K which is higher than the tran
We investigated the effect of pressure on the magnetic and thermoelectric properties of Sr$_{3.1}$Y$_{0.9}$Co$_{4}$O$_{10+delta }$. The magnetization is reduced with the application of pressure, reflecting the spin-state modification of the Co$^{3+}$
PrV$_2$Al$_{20}$ is a rare example of a heavy fermion system based on strong hybridization between conduction electrons and nonmagnetic quadrupolar moments of the cubic $Gamma_3$ ground doublet. Here, we report that a high-quality single crystal of P
Based on the four-band continuum model, we study the ordered-current state (OCS) for electrons in bilayer graphene at the charge neutrality point. The present work resolves the puzzles that (a) the energy gap increases significantly with increasing t
