The lambda-calculus with de Bruijn indices assembles each alpha-class of lambda-terms in a unique term, using indices instead of variable names. Intersection types provide finitary type polymorphism and can characterise normalisable lambda-terms through the property that a term is normalisable if and only if it is typeable. To be closer to computations and to simplify the formalisation of the atomic operations involved in beta-contractions, several calculi of explicit substitution were developed mostly with de Bruijn indices. Versions of explicit substitutions calculi without types and with simple type systems are well investigated in contrast

Scripting code may present maintenance problems in the long run. There is, then, the call for methodologies that make it possible to control the properties of programs written in dynamic languages in an automatic fashion. We introduce Lucretia, a cor e language with an introspection primitive. Lucretia is equipped with a (retrofitted) static type system based on local updates of types that describe the structure of objects being used. In this way, we deal with one of the most dynamic features of scripting languages, that is, the runtime modification of object interfaces. Judgements in our systems have a Hoare-like shape, as they have a precondition and a postcondition part. Preconditions describe static approximations of the interfaces of visible objects before a certain expression has been executed and postconditions describe them after its execution. The field update operation complicates the issue of aliasing in the system. We cope with it by introducing intersection types in method signatures.
The intersection type assignment system has been designed directly as deductive system for assigning formulae of the implicative and conjunctive fragment of the intuitionistic logic to terms of lambda-calculus. But its relation with the logic is not standard. Between all the logics that have been proposed as its foundation, we consider ISL, which gives a logical interpretation of the intersection by splitting the intuitionistic conjunction into two connectives, with a local and global behaviour respectively, being the intersection the local one. We think ISL is a logic interesting by itself, and in order to support this claim we give a sequent calculus formulation of it, and we prove that it enjoys the cut elimination property.

We present Bicoq3, a deep embedding of the B system in Coq, focusing on the technical aspects of the development. The main subjects discussed are related to the representation of sets and maps, the use of induction principles, and the introduction of a new de Bruijn notation providing solutions to various problems related to the mechanisation of languages and logics.

We present a system called Adelfa that provides mechanized support for reasoning about specifications developed in the Edinburgh Logical Framework or LF. Underlying Adelfa is a new logic named L_LF. Typing judgements in LF are represented by atomic f ormulas in L_LF and quantification is permitted over contexts and terms that appear in such formulas. Contexts, which constitute type assignments to uniquely named variables that are modelled using the technical device of nominal constants, are characterized in L_LF by context schemas that describe their inductive structure. We present these formulas and an associated semantics before sketching a proof system for constructing arguments that are sound with respect to the semantics. We then outline the realization of this proof system in Adelfa and illustrate its use through a few example proof developments. We conclude the paper by relating Adelfa to existing systems for reasoning about LF specifications.

This volume contains a final and revised selection of papers presented at the Seventh Workshop on Intersection Types and Related Systems (ITRS 2014), held in Vienna (Austria) on July 18th, affiliated with TLCA 2014, Typed Lambda Calculi and Applicati ons (held jointly with RTA, Rewriting Techniques and Applications) as part of FLoC and the Vienna Summer of Logic (VSL) 2014. Intersection types have been introduced in the late 1970s as a language for describing properties of lambda calculus which were not captured by all previous type systems. They provided the first characterisation of strongly normalising lambda terms and have become a powerful syntactic and semantic tool for analysing various normalisation properties as well as lambda models. Over the years the scope of research on intersection types has broadened. Recently, there have been a number of breakthroughs in the use of intersection types and similar technology for practical purposes such as program analysis, verification and concurrency, and program synthesis. The aim of the ITRS workshop series is to bring together researchers working on both the theory and practical applications of systems based on intersection types and related approaches (e.g., union types, refinement types, behavioral types).
