In this paper, we investigate the geometric phase of the field interacting with $Xi $-type moving three-level atom. The results show that the atomic motion and the field-mode structure play important roles in the evolution of the system dynamics and geometric phase. We test this observation with experimentally accessible parameters and some new aspects are obtained.

We adopt a three-level bosonic model to investigate the quantum phase transition in an ultracold atom-molecule conversion system which includes one atomic mode and two molecular modes. Through thoroughly exploring the properties of energy level struc ture, fidelity, and adiabatical geometric phase, we confirm that the system exists a second-order phase transition from an atommolecule mixture phase to a pure molecule phase. We give the explicit expression of the critical point and obtain two scaling laws to characterize this transition. In particular we find that both the critical exponents and the behaviors of ground-state geometric phase change obviously in contrast to a similar two-level model. Our analytical calculations show that the ground-state geometric phase jumps from zero to ?pi/3 at the critical point. This discontinuous behavior has been checked by numerical simulations and it can be used to identify the phase transition in the system.

A number of superconducting qubits, such as the transmon or the phase qubit, have an energy level structure with small anharmonicity. This allows for convenient access of higher excited states with similar frequencies. However, special care has to be taken to avoid unwanted higher-level populations when using short control pulses. Here we demonstrate the preparation of arbitrary three-level superposition states using optimal control techniques in a transmon. Performing dispersive read-out we extract the populations of all three levels of the qutrit and study the coherence of its excited states. Finally we demonstrate full quantum state tomography of the prepared qutrit states and evaluate the fidelities of a set of states, finding on average 96%.
We report coherent frequency conversion in the gigahertz range via three-wave mixing on a single artificial atom in open space. All frequencies involved are in vicinity of transition frequencies of the three-level atom. A cyclic configuration of leve ls is therefore essential, which we have realised with an artificial atom based on the flux qubit geometry. The atom is continuously driven at two transition frequencies and we directly measure the coherent emission at the sum or difference frequency. Our approach enables coherent conversion of the incoming fields into the coherent emission at a designed frequency in prospective devices of quantum electronics.
The geometric (Berry) phase of a two-level system in a dissipative environment is analyzed by using the second-quantized formulation, which provides a unified and gauge-invariant treatment of adiabatic and nonadiabatic phases and is thus applicable t o a quantitative analysis of transitional regions away from ideal adiabaticity. In view of the recent experimental observation of the Berry phase in a superconducting qubit, we illustrate our formulation for a concrete adiabatic case in the Ohmic dissipation. The correction to the total phase together with the geometry-dependent dephasing time is given in a transparent way. The behavior of the geometric phase away from ideal adiabaticity is also analyzed in some detail.
We have considered the interaction of the subharmonic light modes with a three-level atom. We have found that the effect of this interaction is to decrease the quadrature squeezing and the mean photon number of the two-mode cavity light.
