We have carried out first principles structural relaxation calculations on the hydrous magnesium silicate Phase A (Mg7Si2O8(OH)6) under high pressures. Our results show that phase A does not undergo any phase transition upto ~ 45 GPa. We find that non-bonded H--H distance reaches a limiting value of 1.85 angstrom at about 45 GPa. The H--H repulsive strain releasing mechanism in Phase A is found to be dramatically different from the hydrogen bond bending one that was proposed by Hofmeister et al1 for Phase B. It is based on the reduction of one of the O-H bond distances with compression.

In this work, global search for crystal structures of ternary Mg-Sc-H hydrides (Mg$_x$Sc$_y$H$_z$) under high pressure ($100 le P le 200$ GPa) were performed using the evolutionary algorithm and first-principles calculations. Based on them, we comput ed the thermodynamic convex hull and pressure-dependent phase diagram of Mg$_x$Sc$_y$H$_z$ for $z/(x+y) < 4$. We have identified the stable crystal structures of four thermodynamically stable compounds with the higher hydrogen content, i.e., $Rbar{3}m$-MgScH$_{6}$, $C2/m$-Mg$_{2}$ScH$_{10}$, $Immm$-MgSc$_{2}$H$_{9}$ and $Pmbar{3}m$-Mg(ScH$_{4}$)$_{3}$. Their superconducting transition temperatures were computationally predicted by the McMillan-Allen-Dynes formula combined with first-principles phonon calculations. They were found to exhibit superconductivity; among them, $Rbar{3}m$-MgScH$_{6}$ was predicted to have the highest $T_{c}$ (i.e. 23.34 K) at 200 GPa.
The make-up of the outer planets, and many of their moons, are dominated by matter from the H-C-N-O chemical space, commonly assumed to originate from mixtures of hydrogen and the planetary ices H$_2$O, CH$_4$, and NH$_3$. In their interiors, these i ces experience extreme pressure conditions, around 5 Mbar at the Neptune mantle-core boundary, and it is expected that they undergo phase transitions, decompose, and form entirely new compounds. In turn, this determines planets interior structure, thermal history, magnetic field generation, etc. Despite its importance, the H-C-N-O space has not been surveyed systematically. Asked simply: at high-pressure conditions, what compounds emerge within this space, and what governs their stability? Here, we report on results from an unbiased crystal structure search amongst H-C-N-O compounds at 5 Mbar to answer this question.
High pressure behaviour of superhydrous phase B(HT) of Mg10Si3O14(OH)4 (Shy B) is investigated with the help of density functional theory based first principles calculations. In addition to the lattice parameters and equation of state, we use these c alculations to determine the positional parameters of atoms as a function of pressure. Our results show that the compression induced structural changes involve cooperative distortions in the full geometry of the hydrogen bonds. The bond bending mechanism proposed by Hofmeister et al [1999] for hydrogen bonds to relieve the heightened repulsion due to short H--H contacts is not found to be effective in Shy B. The calculated O-H bond contraction is consistent with the observed blue shift in the stretching frequency of the hydrogen bond. These results establish that one can use first principles calculations to obtain reliable insights into the pressure induced bonding changes of complex minerals.
X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering measurements, and first-principles calculations are performed to search for the formation of NaCl-hydrogen compound. When NaCl and H$_{2}$ mixture is laser-heated to above 1500 K at pressures exceeding 40 GPa, w e observed the formation of NaClH$_{textit{x}}$ with $textit{P}$6$_{3}$/$textit{mmc}$ structure which accommodates H$_{2}$ molecules in the interstitial sites of NaCl lattice forming ABAC stacking. Upon the decrease of pressure at 300 K, NaClH$_textit{x}$ remains stable down to 17 GPa. Our calculations suggest the observed NaClH$_{textit{x}}$ is NaCl(H$_{2}$). Besides, a hydrogen-richer phase NaCl(H$_{2}$)$_{4}$ is predicted to become stable at pressures above 40 GPa.
The electronic and thermal transport properties have been systematically investigated in monolayer C$_4$N$_3$H with first-principles calculations. The intrinsic thermal conductivity of monolayer C$_4$N$_3$H was calculated coupling with phonons Boltzm ann transport equation. For monolayer C$_4$N$_3$H, the thermal conductivity (k{appa}) (175.74 and 157.90 W m-1K-1 with a and b-plane, respectively) is significantly lower than that of graphene (3500 Wm$^{-1}$K$^{-1}$) and C3N(380 Wm$^{-1}$K$^{-1}$). Moreover, it is more than the second time higher than C$_2$N (82.88 Wm$^{-1}$K$^{-1}$) at 300 K. Furthermore, the group velocities, relax time, anharmonicity, as well as the contribution from different phonon branches, were thoroughly discussed in detail. A comparison of the thermal transport characters among 2D structure for monolayer C$_4$N$_3$H, graphene, C$_2$N and C$_3$N has been discussed. This work highlights the essence of phonon transport in new monolayer material.
