We investigate a large angle photodisintegration of two nucleons from the $^3$He nucleus within the framework of the hard rescattering model (HRM). In the HRM a quark of one nucleon knocked out by an incoming photon rescatters with a quark of the other nucleon leading to the production of two nucleons with large relative momentum. Assuming the dominance of the quark-interchange mechanism in a hard NN scattering, the HRM allows to express the amplitude of a two-nucleon break-up reaction through the convolution of photon-quark scattering, $NN$ hard scattering amplitude and nuclear spectral function. The photon-quark scattering amplitude can be explicitly calculated in the high energy regime, whereas for $NN$ scattering one uses the fit of the available experimental data. The HRM predicts several specific features for the hard breakup reaction. First, the cross section will approximately scale as $s^{-11}$. Secondly, the $s^{11}$ weighted cross section will have the shape of energy dependence similar to that of $s^{10}$ weighted $NN$ elastic scattering cross section. Also one predicts an enhancement of the $pp$ breakup relative to the $pn$ breakup cross section as compared to the results from low energy kinematics. Another result is the prediction of different spectator momentum dependencies of $pp$ and $pn$ breakup cross sections. This is due to the fact that same-helicity $pp$-component is strongly suppressed in the ground state wave function of $^3$He. Because of this suppression the HRM predicts significantly different asymmetries for the cross section of polarization transfer $NN$ breakup reactions for circularly polarized photons. For the $pp$ breakup this asymmetry is predicted to be zero while for the $pn$ it is close to ${2over 3}$.

Large angle photodisintegration of two nucleons from the 3He nucleus is studied within the framework of the hard rescattering model (HRM). In the HRM the incoming photon is absorbed by one nucleons valence quark that then undergoes a hard rescatterin g reaction with a valence quark from the second nucleon producing two nucleons emerging at large transverse momentum . Parameter free cross sections for pp and pn break up channels are calculated through the input of experimental cross sections on pp and pn elastic scattering. The calculated cross section for pp breakup and its predicted energy dependency are in good agreement with recent experimental data. Predictions on spectator momentum distributions and helicity transfer are also presented.
The mu + 2H -> nu + n + n, mu + 3He -> nu + 3H, mu + 3He -> nu + n + d and mu + 3He -> nu + n + n + p capture reactions are studied with various realistic potentials under full inclusion of final state interactions. Our results for the two- and three -body break-up of 3He are calculated with a variety of nucleon-nucleon potentials, among which is the AV18 potential, augmented by the Urbana~IX three-nucleon potential. Most of our results are based on the single nucleon weak current operator. As a first step, we have tested our calculation in the case of the mu + 2H -> nu + n + n and mu + 3He -> nu + 3H reactions, for which theoretical predictions obtained in a comparable framework are available. Additionally, we have been able to obtain for the first time a realistic estimate for the total rates of the muon capture reactions on 3He in the break-up channels: 544 1/s and 154 1/s for the n + d and n + n + p channels, respectively. Our results have also been compared with the most recent experimental data, finding a rough agreement for the total capture rates, but failing to reproduce the differential capture rates.
Recent developments in understanding the influence of the nucleus on deep-inelastic structure functions, the EMC effect, are reviewed. A new data base which expresses ratios of structure functions in terms of the Bjorken variable $x_A=AQ^2/(2M_A q_0) $ is presented. Information about two-nucleon short-range correlations from experiments is also discussed and the remarkable linear relation between short-range correlations and teh EMC effect is reviewed. A convolution model that relates the underlying source of the EMC effect to modification of either the mean-field nucleons or the short-range correlated nucleons is presented. It is shown that both approaches are equally successful in describing the current EMC data.
We generalize the theory of nuclear decay and capture of Gamow that is based on tunneling through the barrier and internal oscillations inside the nucleus. In our formalism an additional factor is obtained, which describes distribution of the wave fu nction of the $alpha$ particle inside the nuclear region. We discover new most stable states (called quasibound states) of the compound nucleus (CN) formed during the capture of $alpha$ particle by the nucleus. With a simple example, we explain why these states cannot appear in traditional calculations of the $alpha$ capture cross sections based on monotonic penetrabilities of a barrier, but they appear in a complete description of the evolution of the CN. Our result is obtained by a complete description of the CN evolution, which has the advantages of (1) a clear picture of the formation of the CN and its disintegration, (2) a detailed quantum description of the CN, (3) tests of the calculated amplitudes based on quantum mechanics (not realized in other approaches), and (4) high accuracy of calculations (not achieved in other approaches). These peculiarities are shown with the capture reaction of $alpha + ^{44}{rm Ca}$. We predict quasibound energy levels and determine fusion probabilities for this reaction. The difference between our approach and theory of quasistationary states with complex energies applied for the $alpha$ capture is also discussed. We show (1) that theory does not provide calculations for the cross section of $alpha$ capture (according to modern models of the $alpha$ capture), in contrast with our formalism, and (2) these two approaches describe different states of the $alpha$ capture (for the same $alpha$-nucleus potential).

The $eta$ mesic nucleus is considered to be one of the interesting exotic many body systems and has been studied since 1980s theoretically and experimentally. Recently, the formation of the $eta$ mesic nucleus in the fusion reactions of the light nuc lei such as $d + d rightarrow (eta + alpha) rightarrow X$ has been proposed and the experiments have been performed by WASA-at-COSY. We develop a theoretical model to evaluate the formation rate of the $eta$ mesic nucleus in the fusion reactions and show the calculated results. We find that the $eta$ bound states could be observed in the reactions in cases with the strong attractive and small absorptive $eta$-nucleus interactions. We compare our results with existing data of the $d + d rightarrow eta + alpha$ and the $d + d rightarrow {^3 rm He} + N + pi$ reactions. We find that the analyses by our theoretical model with the existing data can provide new information on the $eta$-nucleus interaction.
