We consider two models with disorder dominated critical points and study the distribution of clusters which are confined in strips and touch one or both boundaries. For the classical random bond Potts model in the large-q limit we study optimal Fortuin-Kasteleyn clusters by combinatorial optimization algorithm. For the random transverse-field Ising chain clusters are defined and calculated through the strong disorder renormalization group method. The numerically calculated density profiles close to the boundaries are shown to follow scaling predictions. For the random bond Potts model we have obtained accurate numerical estimates for the critical exponents and demonstrated that the density profiles are well described by conformal formulae.

Using the properties of random M{o}bius transformations, we investigate the statistical properties of the reflection coefficient in a random chain of lossy scatterers. We explicitly determine the support of the distribution and the condition for cohe rent perfect absorption to be possible. We show that at its boundaries the distribution has Lifshits-like tails, which we evaluate. We also obtain the extent of penetration of incoming waves into the medium via the Lyapunov exponent. Our results agree well when compared to numerical simulations in a specific random system.
We show that the dynamics of simple disordered models, like the directed Trap Model and the Random Energy Model, takes place at a coexistence point between active and inactive dynamical phases. We relate the presence of a dynamic phase transition in these models to the extreme value statistics of the associated random energy landscape.
We study mode-locking in disordered media as a boundary-value problem. Focusing on the simplest class of mode-locking models which consists of a single driven overdamped degree-of-freedom, we develop an analytical method to obtain the shape of the Ar nold tongues in the regime of low ac-driving amplitude or high ac-driving frequency. The method is exact for a scalloped pinning potential and easily adapted to other pinning potentials. It is complementary to the analysis based on the well-known Shapiros argument that holds in the perturbative regime of large driving amplitudes or low driving frequency, where the effect of pinning is weak.
We discuss the slow relaxation phenomenon in glassy systems by means of replicas by constructing a static field theory approach to the problem. At the mean field level we study how criticality in the four point correlation functions arises because of the presence of soft modes and we derive an effective replica field theory for these critical fluctuations. By using this at the Gaussian level we obtain many physical quantities: the correlation length, the exponent parameter that controls the Mode-Coupling dynamical exponents for the two-point correlation functions, and the prefactor of the critical part of the four point correlation functions. Moreover we perform a one-loop computation in order to identify the region in which the mean field Gaussian approximation is valid. The result is a Ginzburg criterion for the glass transition. We define and compute in this way a proper Ginzburg number. Finally, we present numerical values of all these quantities obtained from the Hypernetted Chain approximation for the replicated liquid theory.
This paper presents an analytical study of the coexistence of different transport regimes in quasi-one-dimensional surface-disordered waveguides (or electron conductors). To elucidate main features of surface scattering, the case of two open modes (c hannels) is considered in great detail. Main attention is paid to the transmission in dependence on various parameters of the model with two types of rough-surface profiles (symmetric and antisymmetric). It is shown that depending on the symmetry, basic mechanisms of scattering can be either enhanced or suppressed. As a consequence, different transport regimes can be realized. Specifically, in the waveguide with symmetric rough boundaries, there are ballistic, localized and coexistence transport regimes. In the waveguide with antisymmetric roughness of lateral walls, another regime of the diffusive transport can arise. Our study allows to reveal the role of the so-called square-gradient scattering which is typically neglected in literature, however, can give a strong impact to the transmission.
