We present MERLIN observations of Galactic 21-cm HI absorption at an angular resolution of c. 0.1-0.2 arcsec and a velocity resolution of 0.5 km/s, in the direction of three moderately low latitude (-8< b <-12 deg) extragalactic radio sources, 3C111, 3C123 and 3C161, all of which are heavily reddened. HI absorption is observed against resolved background emission sources up to c. 2 arcsec in extent and we distinguish details of the opacity distribution within 1-1.5 arcsec regions towards 3C~123 and 3C~161. This study is the second MERLIN investigation of small scale structure in interstellar HI (earlier work probed Galactic HI in the directions of the compact sources 3C138 and 3C147). The 0.1-arcsec scale is intermediate between HI absorption studies made with other fixed element interferometers with resolution of 1 to 10 arcsec and VLBI studies with resolutions of 10-20 milli-arcsec. At a scale of 1 arcsec (about 500 AU), prominent changes in Galactic HI opacity in excess of 1-1.5 are determined in the direction of 3C161 with a signal-to-noise ratio of at least 10 sigma. Possible fluctuations in the HI opacity at the level of about 1 are detected at the 2.5-3 sigma level in the direction of 3C123.

The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST) is expected to complete its commissioning in 2019. FAST will soon begin the Commensal Radio Astronomy FasT Survey(CRAFTS), a novel and unprecedented commensal drift scan survey of the en tire sky visible from FAST. The goal of CRAFTS is to cover more than 20000 $deg^{2}$ and reach redshift up to about 0.35. We provide empirical measurements of the beam size and sensitivity of FAST across the 1.05 to 1.45 GHz frequency range of the FAST L-band Array of 19-beams(FLAN). Using a simulated HI-galaxy catalogue based on the HI Mass Function(HIMF), we estimate the number of galaxies that CRAFTS may detect. At redshifts below 0.35, over $6, times , 10^{5}$ HI galaxies may be detected. Below the redshift of 0.07, the CRAFTS HIMF will be complete above a mass threshold of $10^{9.5},M_{odot}$. FAST will be able to investigate the environmental and redshift dependence of the HIMF to an unprecedented depth, shedding light onto the missing baryon and missing satellite problems.

We present millimeter-wave observations of three extra-galactic and six Galactic sources in the Southern sky. Observations were made at 90, 150, 240 and 400 GHz with resolutions of 18, 10, 14 and 12 arcmin respectively during the 1998 Antarctic long duration balloon flight of BOOMERANG. Observations were also made with the SEST telescope, at 90 and 150 GHz with resolutions of 57 and 35 arcsec respectively. These observations can be used for calibrations of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) experiments as well as an understanding of the physical processes of the sources.

The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) has started the Commensal Radio Astronomy FasT Survey (CRAFTS). In this paper, we use the technical parameters of FAST derived from commissioning observations to simulate the completene ss function for extragalactic HI survey of CRAFTS, HI galaxies from two kinds of mock catalogues are selected. One is generated by Monte-Carlo simulation based on the interpolated mass-velocity width function of the ALFALFA $100%$ (a.k.a. $alpha$ .100) catalogue. The other is constructed by semi-analytical N-body simulation based on the $Lambda$CDM model. Our results suggest that a two-pass extragalactic HI survey will be able to detect nearly $4.8times10^{5}$ galaxies, from which the faint end slope of the HI Mass Function (HIMF) can be recovered to $mathrm{10^{7}, M_{odot}}$ and the knee mass of the HIMF can be measured to a redshift of 0.1. Considering the radio frequency interference status and sensitivity limitation, CRAFTS will be efficient in detecting HI galaxies at redshifts below 0.1, which implies a tremendous potential in exploring the galaxy interactions in different environments and the spatial distribution of HI galaxies in the local universe.
We present the results of deep imaging obtained at the CFHT with MegaCam in the Anticenter direction at two different heights above the Galactic disk. We detect the presence of the Monoceros ring in both fields as a conspicuous and narrow Main Sequen ce feature which dominates star counts over a large portion of the color-magnitude diagram down to g~24. The comparison of the morphology and density of this feature with a large variety of Galactic models excludes the possibility that it can be due to a flare of the Galactic disk, supporting an extra-Galactic origin for this ring-like structure.
We present a highly reliable flux-limited census of 18,949 point sources in the Galactic mid-plane that have intrinsically red mid-infrared colors. These sources were selected from the Spitzer Space Telescope GLIMPSE I and II surveys of 274 deg^2 of the Galactic mid-plane, and consist mostly of high- and intermediate- mass young stellar objects (YSOs) and asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars. The selection criteria were carefully chosen to minimize the effects of position- dependent sensitivity, saturation, and confusion. The distribution of sources on the sky and their location in IRAC and MIPS 24 microns color-magnitude and color-color space are presented. Using this large sample, we find that YSOs and AGB stars can be mostly separated by simple color-magnitude selection criteria into approximately 50-70% of YSOs and 30-50% of AGB stars. Planetary nebulae and background galaxies together represent at most 2-3% of all the red sources. 1,004 red sources in the GLIMPSE II region, mostly AGB stars with high mass- loss rates, show significant (>0.3 mag) variability at 4.5 and/or 8.0 microns. With over 11,000 likely YSOs and over 7,000 likely AGB stars, this is to date the largest uniform census of AGB stars and high- and intermediate mass YSOs in the Milky-Way Galaxy.
