We discuss the problem of a possible violation of the optical sum rule in the normal (non superconducting) state of strongly correlated electronic systems, using our recently proposed DMFT+Sigma approach, applied to two typical models: the hot - spot model of the pseudogap state and disordered Anderson - Hubbard model. We explicitly demonstrate that the general Kubo single band sum rule is satisfied for both models. However, the optical integral itself is in general dependent on temperature and characteristic parameters, such as pseudogap width, correlation strength and disorder scattering, leading to effective violation of the optical sum rule, which may be observed in the experiments.

The interplay of strong interaction and strong disorder, as contained in the Anderson-Hubbard model, is addressed using two non-perturbative numerical methods: the Lanczos algorithm in the grand canonical ensemble at zero temperature and Quantum Mont e Carlo. We find distinctive evidence for a zero-energy anomaly which is robust upon variation of doping, disorder and interaction strength. Its similarities to, and differences from, pseudogap formation in other contexts, including perturbative treatments of interactions and disorder, classical theories of localized charges, and in the clean Hubbard model, are discussed.
We calculate ground-state energies and density distributions of Hubbard superlattices characterized by periodic modulations of the on-site interaction and the on-site potential. Both density-matrix renormalization group and density-functional methods are employed and compared. We find that small variations in the on-site potential $v_i$ can simulate, cancel, or even overcompensate effects due to much larger variations in the on-site interaction $U_i$. Our findings highlight the importance of nanoscale spatial inhomogeneity in strongly correlated systems, and call for reexamination of model calculations assuming spatial homogeneity.
We formulate a low-energy theory for the magnetic interactions between electrons in the multi-band Hubbard model under non-equilibrium conditions determined by an external time-dependent electric field which simulates laser-induced spin dynamics. We derive expressions for dynamical exchange parameters in terms of non-equilibrium electronic Green functions and self-energies, which can be computed, e.g., with the methods of time-dependent dynamical mean-field theory. Moreover, we find that a correct description of the system requires, in addition to exchange, a new kind of magnetic interaction, that we name twist exchange, which formally resembles Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya coupling, but is not due to spin-orbit, and is actually due to an effective three-spin interaction. Our theory allows the evaluation of the related time-dependent parameters as well.

The idea of exciton condensation in solids was introduced in 1960s with the analogy to superconductivity in mind. While exciton supercurrents have been realized only in artificial quantum-well structures so far, the application of the concept of exci tonic condensation to bulk solids leads to a rich spectrum of thermodynamic phases with diverse physical properties. In this review we discuss recent developments in the theory of exciton condensation in systems described by Hubbard-type models. In particular, we focus on the connections to their various strong-coupling limits that have been studied in other contexts, e.g., cold atoms physics. One of our goals is to provide a dictionary which would allow the reader to efficiently combine results obtained in these different fields.
A powerful perspective in understanding non-equilibrium quantum dynamics is through the time evolution of its entanglement content. Yet apart from a few guiding principles for the entanglement entropy, to date, not much else is known about the refine d characters of entanglement propagation. Here, we unveil signatures of the entanglement evolving and information propagation out-of-equilibrium, from the view of entanglement Hamiltonian. As a prototypical example, we study quantum quench dynamics of a one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model by means of time-dependent density-matrix renormalization group simulation. Before reaching equilibration, it is found that a current operator emerges in entanglement Hamiltonian, implying that entanglement spreading is carried by particle flow. In the long-time limit subsystem enters a steady phase, evidenced by the dynamic convergence of the entanglement Hamiltonian to the expectation of a thermal ensemble. Importantly, entanglement temperature of steady state is spatially independent, which provides an intuitive trait of equilibrium. We demonstrate that these features are consistent with predictions from conformal field theory. These findings not only provide crucial information on how equilibrium statistical mechanics emerges in many-body dynamics, but also add a tool to exploring quantum dynamics from perspective of entanglement Hamiltonian.
