The results of magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity (rho), and heat capacity measurements as a function of temperature are reported for the alloys, Ce2Rh(1-x)Co(x)Si3, crystallizing in an AlB2-derived hexagonal strcture. Ce2RhSi3 exhibits antiferromagnetic ordering at 7 K. The Neel temperature decreases gradually with the increase in Co concentration. For x greater than 0.6, no magnetic ordering is observed down to 0.5 K. Interestingly, the x= 0.6 alloy exhibits signatutes of non-Fermi liquid behavior, while the Co end member is a Fermi liquid. Thus, a transformation of magnetic ordering state to non-magnetism via non-Fermiliquid state by isoelectronic chemical doping is evident in this solid solution. The electrical resistivity data for x= 0.2 and 0.3 alloys show an upturn at respective Neel temperatures, establishing the formation of a magnetism-induced pseudo-gap for these intermediate compositions alone as though there is a gradual Fermi surface transformation as the quantum critical point is approached.

The competition between magnetic ordering and the Kondo effect in Ce2RhSi3, ordering antiferromagnetically at 7 K, is investigated by the measurements of magnetization, heat capacity and electrical resistivity on the solid solutions, Ce(2-x)La(x)RhSi 3, Ce(2-y)Y(y)RhSi3, and Ce2RhSi(3-z)Ge(z), as well as by high pressure studies on this compound. The trends in the Kondo and Neel temperature variations among these alloys are compared to infer the roles of unit-cell volume and electronic structure changes. On the basis of the results, we infer that this compound lies at the peak of Doniach-magnetic-phase-diagram. The high pressure electrical resistivity data indicate that the quantum critical point for this compound is in the vicinity of 4 GPa.
Structural, magnetic and thermal measurements performed on CeCo{1-x}Fe{x}Si alloys are reported. Three regions can be recognized: i) Co-rich (x < 0.20) with a decreasing long range antiferromagnetic order which vanishes at finite temperature, ii) an intermediate region (0.20 < x < 0.30) showing a broad magnetic anomaly (C_A) in specific heat and iii) the non-magnetic region progressively changing from a non-Fermi-liquid type behavior towards a Fermi liquid one as Fe concentration increases. The C_A anomaly emerges as an incipient contribution above T_N already at x = 0.10, which indicates that this contribution is related to short range correlations likely of quasi-two dimensional type. Both, T_N transition and C_A anomaly are practically not affected by applied magnetic field up to B ~ 10 Tesla.
We investigate the structural and critical properties of CrTe1-xSbx with 0.0 leq x leq 0.2. The XRD patterns revealed that Sb-substitution resulted in a pure NiAs-hexagonal structure with P63/mmc (194) space-group. Lattice refinement of the structure revealed little changes in the a-lattice parameter, along with a more pronounced reduction in the c-axis. The critical behavior in CrTe1-xSbx has been investigated using the magnetization isotherms near the ferromagnetic transition. The obtained critical exponents ( beta, gamma ,and delta) revealed that all samples (with 0.0 leq x leq 0.2) closely follow a mean field-like behavior with ferromagnetic Curie temperature (Tc) near room temperature. The results from Widom scaling relation indicating self-consistency of the acquired values. Moreover, the magnetization isotherms near the Curie temperature follow a universal scaling behavior, giving further support for the obtained critical exponents.
A detailed electronic phase diagram of perovskite-type oxides Sr$_{1-x}$La$_x$FeO$_3$ $(0leq x leq 0.5)$ was established by synchrotron X-ray diffraction, magnetization, and transport measurements for polycrystalline samples synthesized by a high-pre ssure technique. Among three kinds of helimagnetic phases in SrFeO$_3$ at zero field, two of them showing multiple-${it q}$ helimagnetic spin textures tend to rapidly disappear in cubic symmetry upon the La substitution with $x$ less than 0.1, which accompanies the loss of metallic nature. On the other hand, the third helimagnetic phase apparently remains robustly in Sr$_{1-x}$La$_x$FeO$_3$ with $x$ higher than 0.1, followed by merging to the spin/charge ordered phase with $xsim 1/3$. We propose an important role of itinerant ligand holes on the emergence of multiple-${it q}$ states and a possible link between the third (putative single-${it q}$) helimagnetic phase in SrFeO$_3$ and the spin/charge ordered phase in Sr$_{2/3}$La$_{1/3}$FeO$_3$.
We present a detailed study on the charge ordering (CO) transition in GdBaCo2O5 system by combining high resolution synchrotron powder/single crystal diffraction with electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments as a function of temperature. We found a second order structural phase transition at TCO=247 K (Pmmm to Pmma) associated with the onset of long range CO. At Tmin = 1.2TCO, the EPR linewidth rapidly broadens providing evidence of spin fluctuations due to magnetic interactions between Gd3+ ions and antiferromagnetic couplings of Co2+/Co3+ sublattices. This likely indicates that, analogously to manganites, the long-range antiferromagnetic order in GdBaCo2O5 sets in at TCO. Pair distribution function (PDF) analysis of diffraction data revealed signatures of structural inhomogeneities at low temperature. By comparing the average and local bond valences, we found that above TCO the local structure is consistent with a fully random occupation of Co2+ and Co3+ in a 1:1 ratio and with a complete charge ordering below TCO. Below T = 100 K the charge localization is partially melted at the local scale, suggesting a reentrant behavior of CO. This result is supported by the weakening of superstructure reflections and the temperature evolution of EPR linewidth that is consistent with paramagnetic (PM) reentrant behavior reported in the GdBaCo2O5.5 parent compound.
