The spin dependent reflection at the interface is the key element to understand the spin transport. By completely solving the scattering problem based on first principles method, we obtained the spin resolved reflectivity spectra. The comparison of our theoretical results with experiment is good in a large energy scale from Fermi level to energy above vacuum level. It is found that interfacial distortion is crucial for understanding the spin dependence of the phase gain at the Cu$|$Co interface. Near the Fermi level, image state plays an important role to the phase accumulation in the copper film.

The organic spinterface describes the spin-polarized properties that develop, due to charge transfer, at the interface between a ferromagnetic metal (FM) and the molecules of an organic semiconductor. Yet, if the latter is also magnetic (e.g. molecul ar spin chains), the interfacial magnetic coupling can generate complexity within magnetotransport experiments. Also, assembling this interface may degrade the properties of its constituents (e.g. spin crossover or non-sublimable molecules). To circumvent these issues, one can separate the molecular and FM films using a less reactive nonmagnetic metal (NM). Spin-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements on the prototypical system Co(001)//Cu/Mnphthalocyanine (MnPc) reveal that the Cu/MnPc spinterface atop ferromagnetic Co is highly spin-polarized at room temperature, up to Cu spacer thicknesses of at least 10 monolayers. Ab-initio theory describes a spin polarization of the topmost Cu layer after molecular hybridization that can be accompanied by magnetic hardening effects. This spinterfaces unexpected robustness paves the way for 1) integrating electronically fragile molecules within organic spinterfaces, and 2) manipulating molecular spin chains using the well-documented spin transfer torque properties of the FM/NM bilayer.
The interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (iDMI), surface anisotropy energy, and spin pumping at the Ir/Co interface are experimentally investigated by performing Brillouin light scattering. Contrary to previous reports, we suggest that the s ign of the iDMI at the Ir/Co interface is the same as in the case of the Pt/Co interface. We also find that the magnitude of the iDMI energy density is relatively smaller than in the case of the Pt/Co interface, despite the large strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) of Ir. The saturation magnetization and the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) energy are significantly improved due to a strong SOC. Our findings suggest that an SOC in an Ir/Co system behaves in different ways for iDMI and PMA. Finally, we determine the spin pumping effect at the Ir/Co interface, and it increases the Gilbert damping constant from 0.012 to 0.024 for 1.5 nmthick Co.
We have experimentally elucidated the correlation between inverse and direct Edelstein Effects (EEs) at Bi2O3/Cu interface by means of spin absorption method using lateral spin valve structure. The conversion coefficient {lambda} for the inverse EE i s determined by the electron momentum scattering time in the interface, whereas the coefficient q for the direct EE is by the spin ejection time from the interface. For the Bi2O3/Cu interface, the spin ejection time was estimated to be ~ 53 fs and the momentum scattering time ~ 13 fs at room temperature, both of which contribute to the total momentum relaxation time that defines the resistivity of the interface. The effective spin Hall angle for the Bi2O3/Cu interface amounts to ~ 10% which is comparable to commonly used spin Hall material such as platinum. Interesting to note is that the experimentally obtained Edelstein resistances given by the output voltage divided by the injection current for direct and inverse effects are the same. Analysis based on our phenomenological model reveals that the larger the momentum scattering time, the more efficient direct EE; and the smaller spin ejection time, the more efficient inverse EE.
Broadband FMR responses for metallic single-layer and bi-layer magnetic films with total thicknesses smaller than the microwave magnetic skin depth have been studied. Two different types of microwave transducers were used to excite and detect magneti zation precession: a narrow coplanar waveguide and a wide microstrip line. Both transducers show efficient excitation of higher-order standing spin wave modes. The ratio of amplitudes of the first standing spin wave to the fundamental resonant mode is independent of frequency for single films. In contrast, we find a strong variation of the amplitudes with frequency for bi-layers and the ratio is strongly dependent on the ordering of layers with respect to a stripline transducer. Most importantly, cavity FMR measurements on the same samples show considerably weaker amplitudes for the standing spin waves. All experimental data are consistent with expected effects due to screening by eddy currents in films with thicknesses below the microwave magnetic skin depth. Finally, conditions for observing eddy current effects in different types of experiments are critically examined.
We report the observation of the intrinsic damping-like spin-orbit torque (SOT) arising from the Berry curvature in metallic-magnet/CuO$_x$ heterostructures. We show that a robust damping-like SOT, an order of magnitude larger than a field-like SOT, is generated in the heterostructure despite the absence of the bulk spin-orbit effect in the CuO$_x$ layer. Furthermore, by tuning the interface oxidation level, we demonstrate that the field-like SOT changes drastically and even switches its sign, which originates from oxygen modulated spin-dependent disorder. These results provide an important information for fundamental understanding of the physics of the SOTs.
