We consider the transmission of a memoryless bivariate Gaussian source over an average-power-constrained one-to-two Gaussian broadcast channel. The transmitter observes the source and describes it to the two receivers by means of an average-power-constrained signal. Each receiver observes the transmitted signal corrupted by a different additive white Gaussian noise and wishes to estimate the source component intended for it. That is, Receiver~1 wishes to estimate the first source component and Receiver~2 wishes to estimate the second source component. Our interest is in the pairs of expected squared-error distortions that are simultaneously achievable at the two receivers. We prove that an uncoded transmission scheme that sends a linear combination of the source components achieves the optimal power-versus-distortion trade-off whenever the signal-to-noise ratio is below a certain threshold. The threshold is a function of the source correlation and the distortion at the receiver with the weaker noise.

The problem of channel coding over the Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel (BC) with additive independent Gaussian states is considered. The states are known in a noncausal manner to the encoder, and it wishes to minimize the amount of information that the receivers can learn from the channel outputs about the state sequence. The state leakage rate is measured as a normalized blockwise mutual information between the state sequence and the channel outputs sequences. We employ a new version of a state-dependent extremal inequality and show that Gaussian input maximizes the state-dependent version of Martons outer bound. Further we show that our inner bound coincides with the outer bound. Our result generalizes previously studied scalar Gaussian BC with state and MIMO BC without state.
The problem of joint source-channel coding in transmitting independent sources over interference channels with correlated receiver side information is studied. When each receiver has side information correlated with its own desired source, it is show n that source-channel code separation is optimal. When each receiver has side information correlated with the interfering source, sufficient conditions for reliable transmission are provided based on a joint source-channel coding scheme using the superposition encoding and partial decoding idea of Han and Kobayashi. When the receiver side information is a deterministic function of the interfering source, source-channel code separation is again shown to be optimal. As a special case, for a class of Z-interference channels, when the side information of the receiver facing interference is a deterministic function of the interfering source, necessary and sufficient conditions for reliable transmission are provided in the form of single letter expressions. As a byproduct of these joint source-channel coding results, the capacity region of a class of Z-channels with degraded message sets is also provided.

Covariance matrix estimation concerns the problem of estimating the covariance matrix from a collection of samples, which is of extreme importance in many applications. Classical results have shown that $O(n)$ samples are sufficient to accurately est imate the covariance matrix from $n$-dimensional independent Gaussian samples. However, in many practical applications, the received signal samples might be correlated, which makes the classical analysis inapplicable. In this paper, we develop a non-asymptotic analysis for the covariance matrix estimation from correlated Gaussian samples. Our theoretical results show that the error bounds are determined by the signal dimension $n$, the sample size $m$, and the shape parameter of the distribution of the correlated sample covariance matrix. Particularly, when the shape parameter is a class of Toeplitz matrices (which is of great practical interest), $O(n)$ samples are also sufficient to faithfully estimate the covariance matrix from correlated samples. Simulations are provided to verify the correctness of the theoretical results.
The outage performance of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique has received intense attention in order to ensure the reliability requirement for mission-critical machine-type communication (cMTC) applications. In this paper, the outage pro bability is asymptotically studied for MIMO channels to thoroughly investigate the transmission reliability. To fully capture the spatial correlation effects, the MIMO fading channel matrix is modelled according to three types of Kronecker correlation structure, i.e., independent, semi-correlated and full-correlated Rayleigh MIMO channels. The outage probabilities under all three Kronecker models are expressed as representations of the weighted sum of the generalized Foxs H functions. The simple analytical results empower the asymptotic outage analyses at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), which are conducted not only to reveal helpful insights into understanding the behavior of fading effects, but also to offer useful design guideline for MIMO configurations. Particularly, the asymptotic outage probability is proved to be a monotonically increasing and convex function of the transmission rate. In the absence of the channel state information (CSI), the transmitter tends to equally allocate the total transmit power among its antennas to enhance the system reliability especially in high SNR regime. In the end, the analytical results are validated through extensive numerical experiments.
This paper suggests the use of multiple distributed intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) towards a smarter control of the propagation environment. Notably, we also take into account the inevitable correlated Rayleigh fading in IRS-assisted systems. In particular, in a single-input and single-output (SISO) system, we consider and compare two insightful scenarios, namely, a finite number of large IRSs and a large number of finite size IRSs to show which implementation method is more advantageous. In this direction, we derive the coverage probability in closed-form for both cases contingent on statistical channel state information (CSI) by using the deterministic equivalent (DE) analysis. Next, we obtain the optimal coverage probability. Among others, numerical results reveal that the addition of more surfaces outperforms the design scheme of adding more elements per surface. Moreover, in the case of uncorrelated Rayleigh fading, statistical CSI-based IRS systems do not allow the optimization of the coverage probability.
